Chapter 53: The Cracked Heart

The vehicle drove slowly on the cement road. The green on the roadside slowly receded before our eyes. The wind in the wilderness still carried the coolness of last night. The village slowly unfolded before our eyes like a scroll.

Sang Tianen was driving attentively, her hair gently fluttering in the morning breeze, and golden light fell on her eyebrows. Even the tiny hairs in her eyes were dyed with a warm color.

She turned the steering wheel into a courtyard with an open gate. Before the car stopped, she saw her grandmother walking towards her tremblingly with a cane, followed by a big yellow dog wagging its tail.

"Tian'en is back." Grandma opened her wrinkled lips and shouted with full energy.

"Grandma!" Sang Muyang and Sang Mingming quickly got out of the car and held the birthday girl on either side. The old lady burst into laughter, revealing two teeth that dangled like candles.

"Grandma!" Sang Tianen closed the car door and walked to his grandmother with a faint smile on his face.

"Okay, I'm glad you're back." Grandma looked at Sang Tianen's face carefully and said with a smile, "Your father and mother went to buy groceries and haven't come back yet. I told them to stop making a fuss. It's not a big birthday, why make such a big fuss?"

"Yes, I suggested taking the old lady out to eat, but your mother disagreed, saying that the food out there was too strong and not suitable for the elderly." Aunt also came over with a smile on her face, "You are so lucky to have such a filial daughter."

"They are all good children." Grandma nodded with a smile.

Sang Tianen took out the things he bought at the supermarket yesterday and put them at home, then began to clean the house inside and out. Sang Muyang heard from somewhere that there was a temple fair in the next town, and insisted on dragging Sang Mingming to go with him.

Sang Tianen knew that shopping was fake and she really wanted to be lazy, but it was normal for young people to be unable to stay at home. She threw the key chain to the two of them and told them to be back before lunch. The two young men happily took the keys and left.

After mopping the floor, Sang Tianen took apart her grandmother's bedding and sheets and put them in the washing machine to wash. The old lady sat at the door and watched her granddaughter busying around with a somewhat unhappy pout: "Don't wash it, it's rare for you to come back."

Sang Tianen wiped the sweat from his forehead: "It's okay!"

Sang Tianen's family's washing machine is an old-fashioned twin-tub washing machine. Her father said that this type of washing machine is powerful and washes clothes cleanly, so he has always been reluctant to change to a fully automatic one.

Of course, this type of washing machine also has a big flaw, which is that it cannot automatically rinse clothes and requires manual operation. Sang Tianen put the dried sheets into a red bucket and planned to rinse them in a nearby clear water pond.

"Be careful." Grandma reminded her behind her.

Sang Tianen rode an electric scooter to the edge of the pond, threw the bed sheet into the clear pool and rubbed it. Just as she was about to scoop it out and squeeze out the water, a huge push suddenly hit her from behind. Before her brain could react, she fell headfirst into the pool.

The water enveloped her, and her usual cleverness was gone, leaving her brain blank. She flapped her wings instinctively, and water kept entering her mouth and nose, choking her and making it almost impossible for her to breathe.

She emerged from the water again and again, and sank powerlessly again and again, as if the more she struggled, the harder it was to escape. The fear of death surrounded her like sharp thorns, and she could only curse and feel helpless.

Maybe this is her fate, always going to be the best of times in her life...

The girl had just returned from work at the milk tea shop. It was almost half past ten. The bustling urban village had become quiet by this time. The occasional barking of dogs stopped the girl from being afraid of the dark night.

Under the bright moonlight, she walked on the bumpy road, one step deep and one step shallow. Today she earned 440 yuan with four hours of tutoring and seven hours of part-time work in a milk tea shop.

Her shoulders and calves were aching to varying degrees, but she smiled contentedly, holding the milk tea given by the store manager and preparing to leave it for her two younger brothers.

After a dark journey, the girl finally saw a ray of light. She quickened her pace and walked to the house she rented. Just as she took out the key to turn the door, the door creaked and opened by itself.

She was stunned for a moment, then gently pushed open the door. When she saw the scene inside, her eyes suddenly widened and the blood in her body rushed to her head. After three seconds of reaction, she moved her feet with difficulty and walked step by step into the narrow house that sheltered her from the wind and rain.

My heart also began to crack inch by inch.

Tears flowed down, but her lips were still stubbornly pursed, tightly pursed, not allowing herself to make a sound.

"Sister, you, you're back." Zhang Yaozu looked at the girl nervously, standing at a loss beside the bed.

The girl did not respond, but slowly bent down and picked up the shredded college acceptance letter and ID card on the ground. Pearl-like tears rolled down and spread on the paper silently.

"My mother happened to see the postman delivering the notice, and I couldn't do anything..." The boy explained in a panic, fearing that the girl would misunderstand him.

The girl stared silently at the broken notice. The bright oil paint turned pale in her gradually blurry eyes.

At this moment, there was a noise outside the door. Li Fen walked in holding her youngest son's hand. Seeing the scraps of paper on the ground, she pursed her lips. Her eyes lightly swept over her son's twinkling eyes, and she frowned slightly and said, "The date has been set. It's the sixth of next month. You should get ready."

The girl still didn't make any sound. She squatted on the ground like a statue, still holding the paper scraps in her hands.

"Yaozu, hurry up and get the broom and sweep the floor." Li Fen walked to the bed and sat down, poured herself a cup of boiled water, and sipped it.

Zhang Yaozu bit his lip lightly and looked at the girl and said, "Sister, why don't you just not go to college? You go to college to make money. Brother Chen is so rich and likes you so much. You might as well marry him."
