Chapter 19: Street Encounter

Ma family.

Tian sat in front of the stove and added firewood to the hearth, her face full of joy.

After a while, the earthenware pot on the stove began to gurgle. Tian got up and opened the lid. The rich aroma filled her nose and penetrated into her heart.

She poked out the two open flames and turned to a low heat to simmer. When she thought it was almost done, she turned off the fire, took out more than half of the food in a large bowl, and put the rest in three small bowls. She asked her three sons to take a bowl each and eat. She put the large bowl into a lunch box and sent it to Ma Fuquan.

Hearing footsteps coming in, Ma Fuquan, who was lying on the bed, opened his eyes.

"Xiaomai's father, let me help you sit up and drink a bowl of meat soup to replenish your body." Tian put the food box on the stool beside the bed, smiled and reached out to help him sit up.

"No, I can do it myself." Ma Fuquan's face was expressionless, and even his eyes were cold. He took the bowl handed to him by Tian, stirred it with a wooden spoon, and frowned slightly, "Where did you get the game?"

He looked at Tian with a sharp gaze.

"Dabao's mother was trapping them at the foot of the mountain behind." Tian's brows relaxed and she smiled, "You have to say that Ding Laosi and his wife have been really lucky since they separated. Yesterday they found a dead hare on the mountain, and today they trapped a few turtledoves and hares. Xiu Gu must have survived a great disaster and will surely have good fortune in the future!"

"Xiu Gu? The one who bandaged my wound?" He didn't say that she was the one who saved him, but asked about the one who bandaged the wound, because he was familiar with this bandaging technique.

"Isn't it her? I really didn't expect Sister Jane to be so capable. I just helped her a few times in the past because I felt sorry for her. If it weren't for her today, I don't know what kind of mess our family would be in now. I don't dare to think about it."

"Her last name is Jian?" There was a slight change of expression on Ma Fuquan's dark and resolute face.

"Eat it while it's hot. This aunt's bird is very nutritious." Tian didn't notice the subtle change in his expression. She was still happily talking about the changes in Jian Ning after being struck by lightning. As she spoke, she started to curse Meng.

How shameless! Tian learned from Ma Xiaomai that Meng, along with Liu and Gao, had snatched the cloth and smashed the eggs and cakes. She didn't know that Jian Ning had already taken the cloth and eggs back.

When Jane Ning brought the things back, the four little ones were overjoyed. They had new clothes to wear, and their parents brought back turtledoves and hares. They could eat delicious meat every day, and they also had dolls and furry puppies. They had never dared to dream of such a life before.

Ding Youtian hadn't expected Jian Ning to be able to get the things back. Actually, it wasn't difficult for him to get them back, but there would be a lot of trouble afterwards, after all, he knew his mother. He didn't say anything, though. He had made it clear to his father beforehand that if his mother caused trouble again, he wouldn't be polite.

"Mom, can you please give my puppy a name?" Sanniu chose the red Silver Fox and has been holding it in her arms ever since she chose it.

"What's the name? Let me think about it." Jane Ning stroked the little silver fox and raised her eyebrows. She had an idea. She said loudly, "How about calling him Yuanbao?"

"Yes!" Sanniu nodded heavily. "Listen to me, I'll call you Yuanbao." She teased Yuanbao with her fingers and giggled, "Yuanbao, Yuanbao, from now on you are my Yuanbao..."

Jian Ning named Dabao's cat Zhaocai and Da Niu's cat Jinbao. As for the little black silver fox, it has been circling around Ding Youtian's feet since he came back, following him wherever he goes, like a piece of taffy that can't be shaken off. So he decided to just call it Youdi.

For lunch, Jian Ning mixed some coarse grains, stir-fried a turtledove, and made a big pot of soup with shredded turtledove meat and vegetables. It was quite hearty.

A turtledove and three chickens, feasting on birds of the sky and delicacies of the world, the family was content. The four little silver foxes were not picky eaters either. Jane Ning mixed the vegetable and meat broth with the grain rice and cooked it into a paste, and they devoured it all in one gulp, enjoying it with great relish.

But perhaps it was due to bloodline suppression. Even though the four little silver fox cubs were only a month old and still chubby and cute, the other two healthy dogs in the family stared at them, not daring to approach them, and their eyes were always a little wary.

Jane Ning saw this but was not worried. She didn't have to worry about them hurting each other for the time being. She packed up and planned to take the whole family to the town for a walk, mainly to sell the silver fox skin, and then take the opportunity to check out several wineries in the town and see if there was any other business to do.

Ding Youtian suggested selling the remaining turtledove and two rabbits, but Jian Ning disagreed. The cubs were still growing, and the rabbit fat could be used for cooking. It wouldn't be too late to catch more prey and sell them in town.

It was the first time for the four little ones to go to the town with their parents. They were chattering excitedly all the way, chasing each other and unknowingly walking half of the way. For the remaining half of the way, Jian Ning put Erniu and Sanniu into the backpacks carried by her and Ding Youtian.

When they arrived in the town, the four little ones were curious about everything. They ran to look at one stall and then another. Jian Ning kept reminding them not to run too far, for fear that they would be abducted by human traffickers.

"Dingsheng Restaurant is just around the corner." Ding Youtian pointed ahead and told Jian Ning that they planned to go to the restaurant first to find the sixth brother Ding Youxing and ask him to help introduce a buyer.

"Madam Jian!" Before they reached the street corner, two young men came towards them. One of them was dressed in splendid clothes and looked very impressive. He bowed to Ding Youtian again with a smile on his face, "Brother Ding."

Ding Youtian recognized Huo Jincheng at a glance, returned the greeting calmly, and called out calmly, "Brother Huo."

He was dressed in coarse cloth but he was not inferior to the other person in terms of momentum.

"Are you...Mr. Huo?" He changed his clothes. Jian Ning was stunned for a moment before recognizing that it was the man in black whom she had seen at the Ma family.
