Chapter 21: Accused of being a demon

"My mother is not a monster!" Big Girl and Little Girl said in unison after Jian Ning finished speaking.

Dabao nodded his head like a chicken pecking at rice, shaking his hands to indicate that it was not true. Sanniu didn't hear clearly what her sixth uncle said, but she heard what Daniu and Erniu said clearly, and she shouted angrily: "My mother is not a monster, and you who say my mother is a monster are the monsters!"

"Yes!" Big Girl and Second Girl said in unison again.

Jian Ning was secretly regretting that he shouldn't have teased Lu on a whim and caused trouble, but when he saw the four little ones defending him, he felt inexplicably confident.

In her previous life, she believed in metaphysics and held a reverent eye for ghosts and gods, but she didn't believe in the rope-jumping fairies and witches. Perhaps she had traveled through time after death, or perhaps she was subconsciously afraid of losing her family, which was why she was so worried.

But she was not worried about herself. Jane Ning had died once, and she was afraid that the fairy lady really had some magic to force her out of her original body, or put her soul into some magical instrument. She was worried that the four little ones would suffer in the future without her as their mother.

"Sixth Brother, why would Fifth Brother's wife say that out of the blue?" Ding Youtian asked Sixth Brother, but his eyes were fixed on Jian Ning. Jian Ning said unhappily, "Why ask that? Your father originally wanted me to be Fifth Brother's wife, but she's been disliking me ever since we met. If I were a monster, I'd have devoured her long ago. Why would I let her talk nonsense?"

The sixth brother nodded. His parents had high hopes for his fourth brother, hoping that he would eventually become the top scholar in the imperial examination and escape from poverty. How could they have been willing to marry Jian to him? If his parents hadn't realized that his fourth brother wasn't a good student, and if his fourth brother hadn't insisted on marrying Jian, his fourth sister-in-law would have been his fifth sister-in-law by now.

He said, "That's what I told my parents. If Fourth Sister-in-law was a monster, she would have eaten people long ago. But my parents didn't believe me."

Ding Youtian forgot about this for a moment. That Lu was two-faced and always liked to instigate his mother to be dissatisfied with his wife behind his back. In the past, five or six out of ten times his wife was beaten were instigated by her. She never missed any opportunity to get his wife beaten.

"It doesn't matter if she talks nonsense. As soon as she opens her mouth, half an ounce of silver is gone." Wu Xiangu was quite famous in the surrounding area. Ding Youtian knew that a few hundred coins would not be enough to hire her. Thinking about how his parents gave away his family without giving a penny, but were willing to spend a lot of money to hire the fairy, he couldn't help feeling a little resentful.

"I don't know what Mom and Dad are thinking. Forget it, let them make a fuss. It won't cause any trouble anyway." Lao Liu had come back on leave and had to hurry back to town. After saying this, he took out half a tael of silver and gave it to Jian Ning. "Fourth sister-in-law, this is my savings. It's all tips from guests. Mom and Dad don't know about it. Please keep it. Don't think it's too little. It's a small token of my appreciation after all."

When he mentioned money, Jian Ning smiled and said, "No need. We made some money today. If you don't believe me, ask your fourth brother. We also have something good to offer you. Let your fourth brother tell you."

Ding Youtian told him about his plan to open a winery with Blind Liu, and he immediately patted his chest and promised, "That's easy. Our boss has always wanted the wine he brewed. As long as Fourth Brother can convince him to become a partner, our boss will buy all the wine you brew."

Jian Ning said, "It's not settled yet. Don't tell your boss when you get back."

Lao Liu said, "Of course, I'll wait for you to believe me. Sister-in-law, please keep this half a pound. The old house hasn't been lived in for a few years, and it will cost money to repair the roof and other things. Consider it my filial piety to my brother and sister-in-law. Don't be so formal with me."

After he came back, he didn't go to the old house and didn't know that they had already renovated the roof of the main house. Besides, he was raised by his fourth sister-in-law and had always been close to Ding Youtian, so he insisted on giving half a dollar to Jian Ning.

"Then Sister-in-law will save it for you first and give it to you when you get married in the future."

"Hehe, it's still too early to get married. I'll leave first." After saying that, he pinched Dabao's face and left happily.

When Jian Ning and the others returned home, they were still outside the courtyard gate when they heard "Ahhh" sounds from inside. The eldest girl shouted "Jinbao" and the third girl followed suit and shouted "Yuanbao". When Ding Youtian opened the courtyard gate, the four furry little guys clung to their respective owners, happily wagging their tails and acting cute.

As usual, Youdi stuck to Ding Youtian and followed him wherever he went. Ding Youtian brought out two stools and sat under the porch with Jian Ning to weave straw mats. The dog lay on the back of his feet and watched him quietly.

After a while, when Ding Youtian reached out to take the hay, it actually ran over and put the hay in its mouth into his hand. Ding Youtian was so happy that he picked it up and held it in his arms and rubbed it.

"Mom, Yuanbao can laugh. He just squinted his eyes and smiled at me." Sanniu shouted happily. She, Dabao and Daniu were feeding their respective little friends with malt sugar. When she saw Yuanbao licking the sugar and looking up at her and smiling, she danced with joy.

"Yuanbao, be good and smile for my mother." She carried Yuanbao to Jian Ning, teased Yuanbao with malt candy, and giggled non-stop. After a while, Yuanbao really smiled with his eyes narrowed.

"Oh, this little thing can really laugh." Jane Ning didn't think it was strange to see Youdi helping Ding Youtian pick up hay. She had seen many police dogs do these things, but this was the first time she had witnessed an animal smiling in real life.

Erniu also stretched her neck to watch from the side, her little face full of curiosity.

"Second sister." Jian Ning asked her, "My older brother and younger sister each have one. Have you thought about it? Do you really not want one?"

Erniu bit her lip and hesitated.

"If you're worried you can't take care of it yourself, Mom will help you."

Erniu looked at the land, thought for a moment, and said, "I don't want black."

"Then Dad will ask Dabao if he is willing to switch with you." Ding Youtian called Dabao over and asked him if he was willing to give his fortune to Erniu and let him and him change to owning land.

Dabao was a little reluctant to let go, but when he thought about raising land with his father, he was willing again. He gave Zhaocai to Erniu, who was a little scared at first and didn't dare to hold him. With Jian Ning's encouragement, she gradually overcame her psychological barriers.

Since the land belonged to Dabao, Jian Ning changed its name to Maoqiu. Dabao still had some malt sugar left, so he gave some to Erniu to feed Zhaocai, and fed the rest to Maoqiu himself. By dinner time, not only did he and Maoqiu play together enthusiastically, but Erniu and Zhaocai also developed feelings for each other, holding each other in their arms for a long time and not wanting to let go.

"Brother Tian." Just as dusk fell, Blind Liu arrived with a bag of cakes and started yelling in the yard, "What's the matter with you?"

Jian Ning came out and said with a smile, "Brother Liu, I knew you were coming, so I heated up a bowl of rabbit meat for you. Please come in, I'll bring it to you."

When Blind Liu heard there was rabbit meat, he stuffed the cake in his hand into the arms of Ding Youtian, who followed him out, and said as he walked away, "I'll go get some wine. How can we have meat without wine? I'll be right back."

When he brought the wine and poured it into the bowl, Jian Ning saw that it was a top-grade wine because of its clear and transparent color. "You guys eat and drink first. I'll go stir-fry some vegetables. It will be ready soon."

After she left, Blind Liu grabbed a piece of rabbit meat and threw it into his mouth. After swallowing a mouthful of rabbit meat, he shook his head and said, "Hmm, not bad, not bad. Did your wife cook this rabbit meat?"

"It tastes wonderful, doesn't it?" Ding Youtian said with a smile, "My wife is quite remarkable now. Not only is she a skilled doctor, she also has a lot of stories to tell. The storybook I gave you this morning was all she told me. I guarantee you'll never finish telling them in your lifetime."

Blind Liu squinted at him and said, "Is this a Hongmen Feast? I, an old blind man, can see through all the twists and turns in your mind. Tell the truth. What evil plan do you have?"
