Before today, Jian Ning thought raising children was all about keeping them fed and clothed. Now she knows that's not the case. It really fits the saying that life is a constant struggle. Unsatisfied desires lead to pain, while satisfied desires lead to boredom.
Being bored doesn't mean you have to cause trouble. Three years old is the initial stage of character development. If not handled properly, the impact on them will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Jane Ning decided to take it easy. The more anxious she was, the worse it would be. No one knew how to raise a child the moment they gave birth; experience was gained through trial and error. Erniu, woken by their voices, was sobbing again, tears streaming down her face.
"Jia Jia, come here."
Jane Ning called Erniu over. She came over and saw Sanniu glaring at her angrily. She raised her hand as if she wanted to hit Sanniu. Jane Ning said "hmm" softly and put her hand down.
"Today is your father's birthday. You really gave him a great gift."
“Woo…”
Erniu tilted her head back and cried even louder.
Sanniu watched her cry quietly, and the stubborn look on her face faded away little by little.
Jian Ning sighed inwardly and first treated the bloody scratches on their faces caused by nails. After disinfecting them, he applied red medicine. Now both of them looked like clowns in operas.
After Jian Ning applied medicine and combed their hair, Erniu sobbed and told them the reason for the fight. Jian Ning then realized that the two were fighting over an extra candle. She still had candles left in her backpack, but she didn't plan to take out another one, as that wouldn't fundamentally solve the problem.
She told them the story of Kong Rong giving up the pear. When she finished, Erniu said, "Kong Rong gave the big pear to his elder brother, so I'm the elder sister, so I should have given it to her. But she didn't and even beat me. Woo woo..."
Erniu started crying sadly again.
Sanniu thought about it and said, "Kong Rong gave the pear to his younger brother, so Second Sister should give it to me too, I'm younger."
When Jian Ning was a child, she was deeply moved when she read the story of Kong Rong giving away his pears in the textbook. All she could think of was courtesy. But why did it have the opposite effect when it came to Erniu and Sanniu? Are they too young to understand the true meaning of the story, or is the story itself so bad that it cannot stand up to scrutiny?
Thinking about it carefully, both the older brother and the younger brother were to blame, the more she thought about it, the more she couldn't help but come up with conspiracy theories. She regretted choosing such a story to educate the two little ones, and felt a sense of frustration of shooting herself in the foot.
After telling them not to fight again, Jian Ning went out and walked towards the clinic. When she was almost at the door, she saw Ding Youtian coming up the slope, with Guoguo and Maoqiu following at his either side, like bodyguards.
She stood at the door waiting for Ding Youtian.
Ding Youtian came from the clan school. After delivering breakfast to Blind Liu, he went straight to the clan school. Guoguo and Maoqiu found a place to hide outside and waited for him. After he finished teaching a class, they followed him back.
"It's so windy outside. Why are you standing here? Aren't you cold?" Ding Youtian came over and wanted to take off the cloak on his shoulders, but was stopped by Jian Ning.
"No, I'm not cold."
She turned and walked into the clinic, where there was a brazier.
"You seem to be worried about something. What happened?" Ding Youtian followed her in, sat opposite her, rubbed his hands that were almost numb from the cold, put them above the brazier and asked.
"Yaoyao and Jiajia had a fight over an extra candle. Both of them had their faces scratched. Do you think that the fighting and killing in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms that I've been telling them lately has affected them?"
"Hey, what's my problem? What kids don't fight? Isn't that normal? Don't worry, there's no need to persuade them. They'll be fine after a while."
"Will they? Are you sure their fight won't affect their relationship and that they won't ignore each other for a long time?"
"Some become closer as they fight, and some become enemies, just like me and Lao Wu, who were good friends since we were little. Later, because... Anyway, don't worry too much. Maybe they'll end up playing together soon. I'll go and see."
Ding Youtian had just stood up when he heard the laughter of Erniu and Sanniu outside. He walked to the door of the clinic and looked up. The two little guys were running to the weeds outside the yard laughing, followed by Yuanbao and Jinbao, and Sanniu was holding a small hoe in her hand.
Jane Ning heard the noise and followed out.
The two walked over, and Ding Youtian asked them, "What are you doing?"
Sanniu looked up at them and said, "We need to dig a hole and plant the candles. Then lots and lots of candles will grow."
"Oh, then remember to water it three times a day, otherwise it will dry out."
When Jian Ning heard Ding Youtian say this, she nudged him with her elbow. Isn't this just coaxing a child? She glared at him, and he lowered his head, touched his nose, pulled her away, and said with a smile, "Find them something to do. This will save them from having nothing to do and fighting."
"Why can't you educate them properly instead of lying to them? If they don't grow up, I wonder how you'll explain it to them."
Ding Youtian smiled, "That's for the future. They'll forget about it in a few days."
"Mom!" Erniu called out to Jian Ning and ran over, saying, "My sister gave me the extra candle and a few of her own. I refused, so I gave it back to her. She didn't want it either, so she gave it back to me again."
"If only I had been so humble earlier, my face wouldn't have been scratched like this."
"My sister said that mother is a great doctor and will cure us. She even cured the black marks on her own face, so she can cure us too, right?"
Erniu loves beauty very much. After Jian Ning finished telling the story and left, she ran to the table and knelt on the stool. She took Meixiang's mirror and looked at herself. Seeing that her face was covered with marks, she burst into tears.
"Second sister, this candle and these few are all for you. Don't cry, I won't hit you in the future." Sanniu stepped forward and pulled her sleeve, and took the initiative to give her a few more candles.
Erniu stopped crying immediately. She reached out to take Sanniu's hand, but after thinking about it, she retracted her hand and put it behind her back. "I don't want it. I'll give it to you. I won't hit you anymore."
Sanniu giggled and opened her arms to hug her, almost knocking Erniu off the stool. Fortunately, she was quick-witted and grabbed Erniu. Erniu also held onto the edge of the table in time and did not fall.
The two little guys reconciled happily, and ran hand in hand to release Yuanbao and Jinbao. They also discussed finding a piece of land to plant the candles, thinking that more candles would grow. Sanniu also thought about asking Uncle Huo to bring some to little A'man.
At noon, the eldest girl returned from the clan school with Zhaocai and the master. Seeing the second and third girls with clown faces, she pulled them over and asked, "Who hit you? Why did you two fight?"
Erniu and Sanniu pointed at each other and laughed so hard at the sight of each other's clown faces that they doubled over.
"You two! Seriously, have you forgotten the days of hunger because of your good life? We are sisters, real sisters, how can we fight?"
The big girl punished them both to reflect on their mistakes by facing the wall. Although the third girl was stubborn, she and the second girl listened to the big girl very much, because the big girl always protected them in the past, and she would always stand in front of them even if she couldn't beat Ding Gui and Ding Quan.
The two little ones went to stand at the foot of the wall obediently.
