Chapter 34 Clothes Make the Man

Before leaving for the town, Jane Ning felt uneasy and asked the four little ones to carry the little one into the west room. The east and west rooms had not been cleaned up yet. In case the little one only had the characteristics of a Husky, she didn't have to worry about them destroying the house.

After locking the west room door, Jian Ning cooped the two chickens and went to the kitchen to count the wild boar meat hanging around the room. She had originally planned to smoke it into bacon, but she found it too much trouble and instead cured it with salt. Air-drying it would also be good and easier.

Before leaving, she instructed the civet cat, which was sitting on the chair with a proud look, to keep a close eye on the house and to chase away any thieves who came, but not to hurt anyone.

The civet cat looked at Jane Ning without any response, but Jane Ning felt that it understood.

The four little ones were so excited to ride in an ox cart for the first time. In the past, Meng would occasionally hire the ox cart of the headman to go to the town for purchases, but she would only take Ding Gui and Ding Quan with her. They could only run behind the ox cart and watch Ding Gui and Ding Quan go away.

The ox cart is so magical. You can sit on it and it can move forward without walking on your own two legs. The four little ones sat on the ox cart and chattered non-stop, and it was not until the headman spoke that they were like the pause button was pressed.

Mom told them that children should not make noise when adults are talking, and should not interrupt adults. Dabao was the first to wave his hand to signal everyone to be quiet.

"Old Fourth, I heard your homemade secret water can lure wild animals into traps, and I'm willing to buy a large amount of beans for brewing wine at the price of two cents per pound. Well done, you've done a great thing. Many families in our village will have a better life. On behalf of the whole village, I thank you, and thank you and my nephew."

The village head was delighted when he heard the news. Dayan hadn't seen war for decades, and while the country was now peaceful and prosperous, the villagers still lived a hard life. If only the people of Dingjia Village could live a good life, he would wake up laughing in his dreams.

Jian Ning said with a smile: "Uncle, you are too polite. We just want to save trouble. Instead of going to the town to buy it, we buy it from people in our village nearby. It's just for convenience."

The village head said, "Uncle understands. You can save a lot of money by buying in town. This is a profit sharing for everyone. Don't worry. If anyone is blind and doesn't know what's good for them, and dares to pass off inferior goods as good ones, uncle will definitely give you justice."

"Thank you very much, uncle!" Ding Youtian bowed and expressed his gratitude.

The head of the village whipped the ox cart and it rumbled forward.

Soon they arrived in the town. He sent his family to the restaurant where Lao Liu was, and agreed to go back or wait here. Then he drove the ox cart to do his own business.

The owner of Lai Fu Restaurant was willing to accept the wild boar for one tael of silver. Jane Ning frowned slightly when she heard this. A silver fox skin was sold for five taels of silver, but such a big wild boar was only sold for one tael of silver. She felt a little unhappy.

Restaurant owner Zhang Mazi glanced at Jian Ding and Ding Youtian, held up two fingers, and said, "I'll add a maximum of two hundred wen, and that's because Xiaoliu is always clever and hardworking. If you two don't want to sell it all, you can take it somewhere else."

Seeing Lao Liu smile a little, Ding Youtian agreed.

Jane Ning thought it would be troublesome to drag it to the market to sell, and she didn't know if she could get a higher price, so she didn't say anything and considered it a deal.

Zhang Mazi counted the money for them and asked Lao Liu to bring a pot of tea. Lao Liu had already greeted Jian Ning and the others when they arrived, and the boss would discuss the wine supply with them later. Zhang Mazi had tasted Yunshan Cui when Blind Liu came to his restaurant to tell stories, and he had always remembered it. He even went to Dingjia Village to find Blind Liu, offering a high price for his koji recipe, but was rejected.

Now that he could purchase Yunshan Cui from Jian Ning and the others and introduce Yunshan Cui wine into his restaurant, he was naturally very willing to do so. However, he put forward a condition. He was willing to sign a five-year wine supply contract and pay a deposit first. However, Yunshan Cui could not be sold in other restaurants and hotels in Baisha Town. His Lai Fu Restaurant must have absolute monopoly rights.

This wouldn't work. Not to mention that Blind Liu had already signed agreements with other restaurants and received deposits, even if he hadn't signed, Jian Ning didn't want to do business with just one restaurant.

Ding Youtian was also unwilling.

He bowed and said, "I'm sorry, Boss Zhang, it seems we can't reach an agreement. But even if the deal doesn't go through, there's still friendship. We'll work together again if there's another chance. I'll take my leave for now."

"No, brother!" Zhang Mazi was anxious. Blind Liu had actually approached him first, because his attempt at a monopoly had failed. He believed his offer was high, and Laifu Restaurant was the most popular in town. He had originally wanted to keep Blind Liu company for a few days, but this morning he had heard that other restaurants seemed to have reached an agreement with Blind Liu to supply him with alcohol. He didn't know if it was true or not.

"If you really have an agreement with another restaurant, I'll pay the compensation for breach of contract, okay?"

He bowed repeatedly.

Ding Youtian returned the greeting with a bow, saying, "This isn't a question of compensation. The agreement was signed by my master, and he never goes back on his word. I can only apologize! I'm sorry, Boss Zhang."

Zhang Mazi had no choice. Since this was the case, he couldn't let other restaurants take away his business just because they had Yunshan Cui. So he had to sign a wine supply agreement and paid a deposit of 20 taels.

After leaving the restaurant, Jian Ning and Ding Youtian took the four little ones to a clothing store and bought each of them new clothes, shoes and socks. Jian Ning also bought needles and thread. She had cut flowery clothes for the three girls yesterday, but there was not a single needle at home, so today the three of them were still wearing their old coarse cloth clothes.

There is a saying that goes, "Clothes make the man" and "Saddles make the horse". The three little girls were now wearing the same pink dress made of satin with pink ribbons tied around their waists. The second and third girls were so happy that they were spinning around and shaking their skirts and giggling. After dressing up, the three of them looked as beautiful as fairies, which made Ding Youtian smile.

Jian Ning spared no effort in dressing up the three maids. After all, money is meant to be used. She bought each of them a light green skirt, a plain cotton dress for herself, and two long gowns for Ding Youtian, also made of cotton, but of high-quality cotton.
