Chapter 37: Furious

After finishing two episodes, Jian Ning stopped as usual. Blind Liu suddenly asked, "Who wrote this story?"

Jian Ning blurted out: "It's a man named Wu Chengen."

Blind Liu glanced at Jian Ning. The moment Jian Ning met his gaze, she felt inexplicably uneasy, as if his eyes could see through her heart.

Fortunately, Blind Liu didn't ask any more questions.

After the Ma brothers left, Blind Liu asked Ding Youtian to go to his house for lessons. Jian Ning took the four little ones to wash up, and after washing, he gave each of them a big apple picked from the grass, saying that it was given by the villagers who came to exchange beans in the evening. He also took one to eat.

Dabao had eaten apples before, but it was the first time for Da Niu and the others to eat one. They ate it with such deliciousness. San Niu took a few bites and asked Jian Ning, "Mom, what is this called?"

"It's called red fruit, and some people also call it apple."

"Oh, red fruits." Sanniu automatically ignored the apple. "Red fruits are really delicious. Do you have any left after eating them? Did you save any for Daddy?"

"There's one left for your father. If you want to eat more, Mom will ask someone to go to the county town to buy some more tomorrow so you can have as much as you want."

After eating the apple, Jian Ning asked the eldest and second daughters to go to bed first. She boiled some Ganoderma lucidum for Dabao and then began acupuncture. When she had some free time between treatments, she picked an apple from the herb garden and gathered some whitening and freckle-removing herbs. She mashed them and made a face mask to quickly eliminate the dark spots and fine lines on her face.

Now she is a CEO, so she still has to pay attention to her image. After preparing the facial mask, she went to remove the needles for Dabao. Dabao and the four little ones had fallen asleep. She put on the mask, took out the blue cloth, cut it according to the other long gown she bought for Ding Youtian, and then cut a long gown for Dabao.

After she finished cutting, she took out the floral fabrics and needle and thread she had cut, lit the oil lamp, and began to sew clothes for Da Niu and the others. The sizes of the clothes for Da Niu and the others were based on their old clothes. Jane Ning added small ruffles to the collar and cuffs, and a bow with two ribbons hanging on the right side of the hem.

She was sewing clothes under the lamp, while Ding Youtian and Blind Liu were sitting opposite each other under the lamp, staring at each other. Ding Youtian had a hint of anger on his face. He wanted to learn the art of power and strategy. Last night, Blind Liu gave him such a book, but today he changed his mind and refused to teach him.

The two exchanged glances for a while before Ding Youtian finally spoke first. He stared at Blind Liu and said, "You've always hated people who go back on their words. Why are you slapping yourself in the face today by doing something so treacherous?"

He no longer called him master, but just called him "you".

Blind Liu's eyes dimmed, and he sighed, "You, a commoner, are taking the imperial examination. In the future, you can seek a position as an honest official. Not only can you benefit the people, but you can also protect your wife and children. What's wrong with that?"

"Learning political schemes means I can't protect my wife and children? I beg to differ! Quite the contrary, learning political schemes will allow me to better protect them. Although I'm not talented, I know that throughout history, there have always been those who scheme and scheme for power in officialdom! If a person has wisdom but no skills, how can he avoid the attacks of the officialdom? If he can't, won't his wife and children suffer as well? The higher the official position, the greater the misfortune his wife and children will suffer! In this case, it would be better to be an ordinary citizen for the rest of his life!"

Blind Liu closed his eyes, stroked his beard, and pondered for a long moment before he slowly spoke, "Alas, wisdom is the source of art; art is the source of wisdom. Wisdom is the essence of art, and art is the application of wisdom. Well, since you're so determined to learn, you must first follow my rule: you must not present what you've learned to the emperor. If you can do this, I'll teach you."

Ding Youtian chuckled, "Master, are you kidding me? I don't even recognize a prince or nobleman, so how can I present myself to the emperor?"

His eyes flickered as he asked, "Could it be that what Master has learned has been presented to the imperial family?"

"Stop talking nonsense!" Blind Liu flew into a rage. "How many counselors throughout history have had a good ending? The emperors are the most ruthless! You know, disaster comes from the mouth. You're so careless, saying whatever comes to your mind without a trace of guile. You don't even know how you'll end up in the future!"

His words were stern, a rare occurrence. Ding Youtian couldn't help but stand up, clasping his fists and bowing, and said sternly, "Master, you are right. I know I was wrong. From now on, I will remember your teachings today and think carefully before speaking. Master, you can rest assured."

Blind Liu waved his sleeves and ordered them to leave. "I'm tired today. Go back and reflect on your actions!"
