Chapter 49 Officially Accepting a Disciple

Yang Lang already had an idea in mind, it was just a matter of putting things into practice.

Jian Ning didn't like beating around the bush. He glanced at Yang Jinyu and said directly, "Your grandson is a man of good character. I came here today to accept him as my disciple at his request."

"Master, please accept my disciple's greeting." Yang Jinyu immediately stepped forward and kowtowed three times to Jian Ning.

The old doctor wanted to set up a table at Laifu Restaurant. He had already found out that Ding Laoliu, a waiter at Laifu Restaurant, was Jian Ning's brother-in-law. Jian Ning didn't refuse. She knew that people in ancient times were very particular about apprenticeship. She thought it would be a good opportunity to let more people know that Yang Jinyu was her apprentice, so she happily went.

When the sixth brother Ding Youxing saw Jian Ning coming and learned that Yang Jinyu, the young master of Pu Ren Tang, had become his fourth sister-in-law's disciple, he naturally felt proud and ran around happily.

The old doctor invited the town lord and several prominent gentry to accompany him. In the presence of everyone, Yang Jinyu, who had specially changed into new clothes, performed the apprenticeship ceremony again, served tea, and officially became Jian Ning's apprentice.

Zhenjun and those gentry, seeing that Jian Ning was very young and only a few years older than Yang Jinyu, were all wondering why Yang Jinyu, as the young master of Pu Ren Tang, wanted to worship her as his master?

After some explanation from the old doctor, several people learned that Jian Ning was a hidden master who not only brought Constable Ma back from the brink of death, but was also able to cure tuberculosis and detect snake venom that even the old doctor could not detect. They immediately looked at her with admiration and tried to get close to her.

Jian Ning didn't like small talk and politeness, so she spoke in a cold tone and even pretended not to hear anything. Fortunately, Yang Jinyu was there to make jokes, and everyone just thought that she was a reclusive master with great capital, so no one mind her coldness and alienation.

Before leaving, Jian Ning gave Yang Jinyu a medical book. This book was given to her by Grandma Wu. It was written in traditional Chinese characters and recorded hundreds of difficult and complicated diseases. It also had illustrations of various acupuncture points on the human body.

"Take this and read it carefully. Mark the things you don't understand. I'll come every month... every Saturday, I guess. I'll teach you injections, surgery, suturing, and dissection. But there's one thing: you can't tell anyone that these are my teachings. In the future, your medical practice can only be based on the mutual understanding between you and me, master and apprentice. Can you do that?"

Although Yang Jinyu didn't understand why she did this, based on the principle of respecting teachers, he nodded solemnly, "Disciple will obey your orders and will never disobey."

When he and Taigong sent Jian Ning out, the head shopkeeper came to greet them with a smile on his face. He was secretly thankful that he had been careful and did not offend the distinguished guest of the host family.

"Grandpa, the carriage is ready and waiting outside," he said attentively.

Doctor Yang nodded and instructed Yang Jinyu: "Yu'er, see your master off again."

"No need to see me off. Please go back." Jane Ning got on the carriage carrying a backpack. In addition to a bag of snacks she bought for the four little ones when she first came to town, the backpack was also filled with cakes and candies bought by Yang Jinyu for the four little ones.

Yang Jinyu insisted on sending him off, but Jian Ning asked him to stay and look after Huo Jincheng, as he had been poisoned by a mixture of snake venom and would need a month to fully recover. Yang Jinyu thought Huo Jincheng must have something important to tell her, and worried it might be something related to his family, so he gave up.

"Xiao Si, drive steadily and don't shake my master." He turned and reminded Xiao Si.

"Don't worry, sir. Xiao Si will definitely get there safely." Xiao Si asked the head shopkeeper for this errand himself. Since the head shopkeeper had scolded him before, he was naturally willing to give him this favor.

Xiao Si hadn't gone far in the carriage when he saw his third sister waiting by the roadside, holding Dajun in one hand and carrying a cloth bag in the other. He turned to Jian Ning in the carriage and said, "Madam Jian, my third sister is by the roadside. She wants to see you."

Jian Ning lifted the curtain, and Sanniang walked forward with Da Jun. She had heard from the neighbors and Xiao Si that it was Jian Ning who saved her son. She had miscarried her second baby and her third was still in her belly. Now she had Da Jun as her precious son, so she was particularly grateful to Jian Ning.

She handed over the cloth bag and said, "Mrs. Jian, thank you for saving Dajun. I don't have anything good to give you, just a few toys and two bags of candy from my shop. If you don't mind, please accept them."

Seeing her tiptoeing with her big belly, Jian Ning quickly took it and got out of the driveway: "I happened to be close at the time, and I have some natural brute force. No need to be so polite. It's not easy to run a small business. Take it back quickly."

Sanniang was unwilling to do so and insisted that she accept it. She also forced Dajun to kowtow to Jian Ning to thank him for saving her life.

If her son really died today, she would not be able to explain to her man.

Jane Ning couldn't refuse and was in a hurry to go home, so she had to accept it.

On the way, she unwrapped the cloth bag and looked at the toys Sanniang had given her: a bamboo dragonfly, a small windmill, and a few stuffed dolls. Jane Ning remembered the straw dolls she had made for the four little ones, which they had cuddled together to sleep. Stuffed dolls were much easier to make than straw dolls, and she was even better at making them.

Blind Liu comes to the town every now and then to talk about Journey to the West. She might as well take Tian and Chang to make some puppets from the Journey to the West, and then sell them in Sanniang's shop. If they sell well, it will be a good income.

Xiao Si took Yang Jinyu's instructions to heart and drove the car steadily, albeit a little slowly. But even at a slow pace, the wheels kept rolling forward, and the days passed, until the day for the wine was finally here.

Tian and Chang arrived early in the morning, chatting and laughing. They both looked remarkably healthy. Ma Fuquan's injuries had healed, and she had kept him at home for a few days to recuperate. This morning, he couldn't wait to go to the government office. Ding Pingshun's illness hadn't fully healed, but he could now go up the mountain to dig traps and do some manual labor.

When the two of them arrived, Jane Ning's family had just sat down at the table for breakfast. She fried a plate of sweet potato leaves. The few acres of dry slopes on the back mountain were planted with sweet potato seedlings that she transplanted from among the weeds. Because they were watered with spiritual spring water every day, they were now growing very well.

"These sweet potato leaves taste good. Second sister, you should try them too. Don't be too picky." Seeing that Erniu was only eating meat, Dabao used the public chopsticks prepared by Jian Ning to pick up a chopstick of sweet potato leaves and put them in Erniu's bowl. He looked up and found that his parents and Daniu and Sanniu were all staring at him.

Half a month ago, he was no longer stuttering as much when speaking, and his eyes were clearer than before, but he still had trouble speaking a complete sentence. Now, he spoke three sentences in one breath without stuttering at all. He didn't realize it himself, but Jian Ning and the others were stunned.

"Dabao, say a few more words to me, anything is fine." Jane Ning's eyes were filled with mist. She knew that she could cure Dabao, but she couldn't help but get excited when this day came.

Dabao was stunned for a moment, then looked at his parents and three sisters, his eyes clear and he smiled slightly and said, "Mom, I think I'm well now. This is all thanks to you. Thank you."

Ding Youtian put down his chopsticks, grabbed Jian Ning's left hand and wrapped it in his palm, saying repeatedly: "That's great, my lady, Bao'er is fine, he's fine, he's really fine!"

"Who's better? Dabao?"
