Chapter 540: Accept Erlang

Hearing someone calling for him, Ding Youtian was about to go out when Tong Bajin's voice rang out from outside: "It's General Geng and his men." Ding Youtian glanced at Jian Ning and said, "Since it's General Geng, it's naturally Madam Ding he wants to see. Let's go and see her together."

Jian Ning let go of Guoguo and Baimei, and pointed at the little silver fox in Erniu and Sanniu's arms. "Put them down. You two go do horse stance for me. Straighten your arms and backs, and keep an eye on the time." She pointed to the clepsydra on the table and said, "Don't get up before half an hour."

The two little ones stood in horse stance very well and in a very standard manner.

After Jian Ning went downstairs with Ding Youtian, Sanniu looked at Erniu sideways, and Erniu also looked at her sideways. As they looked at each other, they started laughing, and then they bumped into each other with their shoulders sideways, which made Guoguo and Baimei's eyes widen.

Who taught whom bad things?

Guoguo can't speak human language. If it could, it would probably ask Jian Ning some soul-searching questions.

Baimei could speak, but only uttered one or two words at a time. He tilted his head and looked at the two of them, one hitting the other. Suddenly, with a very serious expression, he blurted out, "Hit!"

After saying that, it landed on Guoguo's back as usual, but the landing position was not good. One of its claws happened to land on the wound on Guoguo's skin that was peeling off and bleeding. The pain made Guoguo's back arched, and it was so scared that it ran away. In the end, it bumped its head against the corner of the table and fell to the ground with a thud.

Guoguo rushed over and raised one of his front paws high. Erniu screamed and covered her eyes. Baimei would have been beaten to pieces by Guoguo's paw.

However, Guoguo raised his paw halfway down, wiped it on his face, and walked away with his tail between his legs as if nothing had happened.

It escaped from the claws of the white-browed cat and hurriedly hid to the side with half of its wings dragging away.

When Ding Youtian had taken Erniu and Sanniu to the government office, he had specifically instructed Guoguo to take Baimei and the two little silver foxes to the inn and keep an eye on the luggage. After they hadn't returned for a while, Baimei began to get anxious. He wanted to get out, but Guoguo, having received a mission, couldn't let him go. Naturally, he had to follow orders meticulously and strictly!

Guoguo jumped onto the table and was able to reach the beam with one leap. Baimei lost his air superiority and his fighting power was greatly reduced in front of Guoguo, and both sides suffered losses in the fight.

In the lobby downstairs, Jian Ning and Ding Youtian led General Geng upstairs. When they saw Erlangzi coming out of Tong Bajin's room next door, Jian Ning paused for a moment, glanced at Erlangzi, wanted to say something but held back, and then he stepped aside to invite General Geng into the house.

"Brother, didn't I tell you not to come out for now? Master hasn't told Madam yet." Tong Bajin pushed Erlangzi back into the room, closed the door, and said, "Madam doesn't know your background and suspects you're a killer they sent to harm Master. Please don't go out. Be patient for a while. I'll go over and deal with them."

"Wait a minute, old man!" Erlangzi grabbed him and said, "What's the matter? Can't the master make the decision? Doesn't it take the lady's approval?"

Tong Bajin shook his shoulders, broke away from him and said, "Are you talking nonsense? Who is the Madam? She's the daughter of a general. You saw how powerful the Madam is yesterday. Stay in the house. If you really can't stay idle, go to the stable and brush the horses. Go to the sixth trough, and don't hang around in front of the Madam."

Erlangzi scratched the bald spot on his head and thought it would be better for him to tend the horses. When he passed by Jian Ning's room, he silently sympathized with the adults for a second. It seemed that finding a wife with a strong family background was not a good thing.

He walked to the stairs, and Tong Bajin came out with Erniu, Sanniu, and two little silver foxes. Seeing him about to go downstairs, Tong Bajin gestured for him to wait, "You two go with Uncle Laitou to play in the stable. Uncle Tong is here, guarding the door. Go quickly."

Tong Bajin thought they were going to discuss serious matters, so he brought Erniu and Sanniu out. However, General Geng didn't know much about the officialdom in Yancheng. He could only vouch for the governor, and knew nothing else.

He was an out-and-out military general who only knew how to fight in battle. He never cared about the intrigues in officialdom and was not proficient in it.

"Uncle Geng, when you return to Beijing and see my parents, don't mention what happened to us here, so they don't worry about us." Jian Ning glanced at Ding Youtian and said, "Just tell them that everything is fine and will be fine. Tell them not to worry about us and that you should take care of yourselves. That's the most important thing."

Jane only reported good news and not bad news. She didn't want them to worry too much about her family. Besides, she was becoming more and more confident in Ding Youtian. Although she didn't know what was going on with the people outside the yamen, she knew that Ding Youtian must have been involved. Otherwise, the stage for the people watching the excitement would not be set up just right.

"Uncle Geng, please take a letter to Commander Huo, the eldest son of the Taifu Mansion. I will write it to you right away. Please wait a moment." Ding Youtian stood up and took out writing brush, ink, paper and inkstone from his bag. He told Huo Jincheng what happened yesterday and his analysis of the Tongpan and Prince Rui.

Before leaving, General Geng handed Jian Ning a copper cufflink. "My Lady, if you need any help here, you can go to the Governor. He's trustworthy and has a life-or-death relationship with me. I haven't revealed your true identities to him yet. Just show him this cufflink and he'll know it's the person I want him to protect. He'll definitely help you with all he can."

"Okay, thank you Uncle Geng." Jian Ning took the cufflinks and said with a smile, "I hope I won't need them."

After seeing General Geng off, Jian Ning asked Tong Bajin, "Brother Tong, what's going on with that idiot? It's hard to say whether he's a friend or foe, so it's best not to keep him here. I'll go get the medicine, you give it to him and let him go."

"No hurry." Ding Youtian nodded his chin at Tong Bajin, motioning him to leave first. After he closed the door and left, he smiled and said to Jian Ning, "Don't worry, Madam. Erlangzi is not a bad guy. I asked Brother Tong to make thorough inquiries. After he takes office, the government will need someone like him who knows some martial arts. We will be in Danyang for three years, maybe even six years, so we still need to train a few skilled helpers around us."
