The sun sets. After a busy day, Lu Jinshu finally finds time to visit Changxin Palace.
Before entering the door, I heard the laughter of a child coming from inside. "I was wrong. I was wrong, isn't that enough? I will be more careful next time and will never make the same mistake again. Father, please don't be angry."
When Lu Jinshu pushed the door open and walked in, he saw Shangguan Xu, whose cheeks were puffed with anger. He couldn't help but ask curiously, "What happened? What did Xihe do wrong?"
Ling Xihe turned around and saw Lu Jinshu, as if she had seen a savior. "I accidentally poured half a jar of sugar into the peach blossom soup. Now the peach blossom soup has turned into syrup and is no longer drinkable. Queen Father, but I really didn't mean to do that. Please help me explain to my father and tell him not to be angry with me."
Lu Jinshu couldn't help but laughed out loud. He didn't help Ling Xihe to plead for mercy, but teased Shangguan Xu, "I remember that when you made plum blossom porridge before, you also put too much sugar. I can still remember His Majesty saying you, 'You probably poured a whole can of sugar in it.'" As soon as he said this, he realized that he shouldn't have mentioned the old things at that time. Sure enough, Shangguan Xu fell silent.
Shangguan Xu used to do things according to his own whims, learning little and playing around more than cooking. But at some point, it felt like he'd grown up overnight. To earn His Majesty's favor, he curbed his temper and focused on his work. When he recalled his naive and romantic past, he felt more melancholy than joy. After all, it was impossible to go back to the way things were.
Ling Xihe, however, had no desire for the sudden chill in the atmosphere between the adults. He hugged Shangguan Xu's arm and shook it, "Father, please don't be angry with me. I really, really, really know I was wrong. I will be very careful when I put sugar in it next time."
Shangguan Xu had no intention of being truly angry. He casually rubbed the top of his head and said, "Alright, alright, I forgive you. Go out and play by yourself. I have something else to say to your father."
Ling Xihe was originally thinking about going out to play snowballs, but when he heard Shangguan Xu say that he forgave him, he couldn't sit still for a moment and ran out the door happily.
Lu Jinshu was quick to grab her collar and said, "The snow outside won't melt for days. Why are you in such a hurry? Put on your clothes before going out. What if you catch a cold?"
Jiufu pulled Ling Xihe from Lu Jinshu's arms and wrapped the cotton cloak around her. In an instant, Ling Xihe was curled up into a ball, her movements becoming sluggish. But this didn't dampen her enthusiasm for getting out; she continued happily running into the snow.
Lu Jinshu stared at Ling Xi and Xiao Xiao until they disappeared behind the door curtain. Just as he was about to turn around, he heard Shangguan Xu suddenly say coldly, "I heard the one from Blackwater City also gave birth to a daughter. He'd been taking Tianxian Baigu Powder for so long, and yet the child he gave birth to had all four limbs intact. It's unbelievable."
Lu Jinshu turned around and looked at Shangguan Xu.
It's more disappointing than unbelievable.
Shangguan Xu scooped a spoonful of the overly sweet peach blossom soup into his mouth. "The mountains are high and the road is long. While they haven't returned to the palace yet, it's still not too late for you to do something."
