Chapter 187 The People Have Arrived

Hearing the little monk call her name, Su Qinghe opened her eyes.

Looking at the neatly arranged bedding on the floor, a hint of warmth flashed in Su Qinghe's eyes.

Looking at the little monk's slightly childish face, Su Qinghe gave him a big smile.

Thank you.

Su Qinghe was already beautiful, and Wu Wang blushed immediately when she smiled at him. He lowered his head and said softly, "Benefactor Su, you don't need to be so polite."

Before Su Qinghe could get up, Wu Wang hurriedly hid himself back under the covers.

The bed had already been made, so Su Qinghe naturally wouldn't make herself uncomfortable. She took a long stride, took off her shoes, and stepped onto the bed.

Wu Wang watched Su Qinghe's movements from the couch. When he saw her start to take off her outer robe, he immediately blushed and turned over.

...

The next day.

Wu Wang was summoned by the soldiers to cook early in the morning, along with a dozen or so monks.

Su Qinghe had already hidden herself to the side as soon as she heard the footsteps outside the door.

It was already close to noon, and Wu Wang still hadn't returned, while Su Qinghe hadn't left the house at all.

She wasn't worried about Wuwang's safety. After all, the matter hadn't been accomplished yet, and these people wouldn't kill him easily. To avoid a repeat of last night's incident, she even specially made some makeup for Wuwang's face early this morning.

Just as Su Qinghe was idly wandering around Wuwang's meditation room, familiar footsteps finally came from outside the door.

A moment later, the door was pushed open from the outside, and a sallow-faced head poked in. When the person saw Su Qinghe, a shy smile appeared on their face.

The monk had a yellowish complexion, dark circles under his eyes, and his cheeks were covered with freckles. When he grinned, he was missing a lower front tooth.

This person was none other than Wu Wang, who had been disguised by Su Qinghe.

"You're back. How was it? Nothing happened this morning, right?"

After Wu Wang closed the door, Su Qinghe came out from the inside.

Wu Wang quickly walked a few steps to the table.

"Yes, this morning was very peaceful. The soldiers all looked at me with disdain and didn't want to talk to me at all."

As he spoke, he laboriously pulled an oil paper package from his pocket.

"Although my senior brothers and uncles were very surprised when they first saw me, I explained it to them."

Seeing that Su Qinghe had looked at him, Wu Wang quickly added another sentence.

"But don't worry, Benefactor Su, I didn't say you were here with me. I only said that I did this myself, and they all praised me for being clever!"

Su Qinghe breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that he hadn't told anyone about her situation.

She was busy putting on his makeup this morning and forgot to remind him, but luckily the little monk isn't too stupid.

Looking at the oil paper package on the table, Su Qinghe pulled out a chair and sat down. "You've left some food for me again today?"

Wu Wang nodded, then shook his head after thinking for a moment. He opened the oil paper package in front of Su Qinghe, and a fragrant aroma of meat wafted out.

Inside, five or six pork ribs, still oozing with oil, were neatly arranged.

Su Qinghe's eyes lit up, and she took a deep breath. "It smells good. Don't you usually only cook vegetarian food? How come you can make meat like this on your first time?"

Seeing that she was happy, Wu Wang was also pleased.

“Not all the men in the temple grew up there like I did. Quite a few of them became monks halfway through their lives. Many of my uncles and brothers were very good cooks before they became monks.”

“Those soldiers wanted to eat meat, so they hunted game from the mountains and threatened us with knives to cook it for them. My uncles and brothers had no choice but to agree.”

As he spoke, Wu Wang, looking reluctant, pushed the meat in front of Su Qinghe.

"I know that Benefactor Su likes to eat meat, so I specially hid some. Eat quickly, so that you will have the strength to resist them."

After hearing his words, Su Qinghe was a little surprised, but she still picked up a piece of rib and ate it without hesitation.

"Thank you, it's delicious." Su Qinghe praised sincerely.

Having eaten dry rations for so long, even the most bland hot food still tastes like the best of the best to her.

Seeing Su Qinghe eating with relish, Wu Wang couldn't help but smile.

He spread his arms out on either side of his cheeks and watched Su Qinghe eat with a smile on his face.

Su Qinghe would glance at him a couple of times along the way, and every time their eyes met, he would lower his head shyly, looking a little silly.

...

In the following days, Wu Wang would bring back meat for Su Qinghe at every meal, and each time he would also bring some news from the outside world, so Su Qinghe didn't need to go out at all.

Wu Wang was no longer as shy about Su Qinghe sleeping in the bunk below him. He would chat with her every night before bed when he was bored, but most of the time he would ask questions and Su Qinghe would talk.

The questions he asked most were undoubtedly about things down the mountain, such as folk customs, weddings, and funerals.

But in reality, Su Qinghe didn't know the answers to many questions. Her understanding of this world wasn't much greater than his, so she could only make up a few random statements.

Wu Wang never questioned what Su Qinghe said.

The days passed uneventfully until the fourth day, when Wu Wang finally brought back the news that Su Qinghe had been waiting for.

The ceremony to honor Heaven will be held tomorrow, which means that person will be arriving tomorrow.

This news didn't come from the soldiers, but from the fact that there were many live game animals in the kitchen today, and they weren't allowed to slaughter them immediately, saying they had to wait until tomorrow to eat them fresh.

Besides the food, various utensils have also been set up in the area outside the main hall of the temple, clearly in preparation for tomorrow's worship ceremony.

After Wu Wang told Su Qinghe the news, the two fell silent for a moment.

"Benefactor Su, are you afraid?" Wu Wang finally spoke first.

Su Qinghe smiled. "I've never known the meaning of fear. What? Are you scared?"
