The crowing stopped abruptly, and the chicken tumbled headfirst off the roof.
"Master!"
The door opened, and a middle-aged woman came out. Seeing Su Qinghe standing at the gate, she called out urgently.
"Don't keep hens in the house anymore, they're too noisy."
After giving her instructions, Su Qinghe turned and left, leaving only the middle-aged woman still in a daze.
Back in her courtyard, Su Qinghe took a deep breath, savoring the fresh air. She habitually stretched her body and then began practicing her boxing.
After finishing one set of punches, she immediately followed with a second, a third… Each movement was fluid and natural, like flowing water. As time went on, her breathing gradually became rapid.
It didn't end until they were soaked in sweat even on a cold winter day.
Behind the screen, servants had already prepared hot water. Su Qinghe quickly washed up and went to the study.
"What should I write about... New Year's Eve..."
At this moment, several sheets of bright red silk paper were spread on the large, thick brown desk.
Su Qinghe picked up her pen, frowned in thought, and only put down her pen after a long while.
She wrote with lightning speed, and in no time, several vigorous characters appeared on the paper.
She set the first one aside to dry, then picked up her brush and wrote swiftly and skillfully, and soon a complete couplet appeared.
"Take this and paste it on the main entrance." Su Qinghe handed the written couplet to the servant waiting beside her, and stretched her slightly sore wrist.
The servant took the couplets and carefully carried them out.
Looking at the empty study, Su Qinghe suddenly remembered the hen from this morning.
"I wonder if she fell to her death..." she murmured, slowly walking towards the hall.
By the time she finished what she had just done, it was already broad daylight, and the sun could still be faintly seen. Most of the three men had also gotten up around this time.
"Master Wife!"
"Su Qinghe!"
As expected, as soon as Su Qinghe entered the hall, Ji Yuan and Ji Qingyu were already sitting there, with Ji Qingyu looking at her with excitement in her eyes.
"Is Xiaoxi still not up?"
Not seeing Lin Xi, Su Qinghe frowned and asked. He seemed to be sleeping a lot lately.
Ji Qingyu nodded upon hearing this.
“We went to see Brother Xiaoxi on our way here, but Wenzhu said he hadn’t woken up yet, so we came here first.”
Hearing his words, Su Qinghe frowned even more deeply, wondering if it was because of the cold winter weather.
Ji Yuan pursed his lips.
He might know what was wrong with Xiao Xi, but he wasn't sure. If he didn't, saying it now would only make Su Qinghe happy for nothing.
But seeing that she still looked worried after sitting down, he hesitated for a long time before finally speaking.
"My lady, Xiaoxi and I both ate the pregnancy fruit, and it's been over a month now. Could it be..."
He looked at Su Qinghe hesitantly, his tone soft.
Su Qinghe paused in her chopsticks, then turned to look at Ji Yuan a beat later.
"Is Brother Xiaoxi pregnant?!"
Before she could ask, Ji Qingyu, who was standing to the side, had already jumped up excitedly.
Su Qinghe suddenly realized and slapped her forehead. It was her lack of experience that made her fail to notice such an obvious reaction.
In high spirits, she immediately turned to Zhang Fu, who was waiting nearby, and gave him instructions.
"Zhang Fu, tell the kitchen to stew the old hen I caught this morning!"
Regardless of whether it died from the fall, I'm going to stew it this morning to nourish Linxi!
"Yes, Master."
Zhang Fu respectfully responded. Although she didn't know when Su Qinghe had killed a chicken, she still ran to the kitchen.
"My lady, I'm just guessing, it might not be true..."
Seeing the undisguised joy on Su Qinghe's face, Ji Yuan couldn't help but remind her.
"It's alright," Su Qinghe said with a smile, waving her hand.
"Once the New Year is over, I will take you to the clinic for a check-up. If you are pregnant, it will be the most joyous occasion of the New Year. If not, it doesn't matter, since your wife is not lacking in fertility."
Seeing that she was so open-minded, Ji Yuan smiled with relief and put his mind at ease.
After the two finished speaking, although she knew it was still uncertain, Ji Qingyu couldn't hide her excitement.
"I must touch Xiaoxi's belly today! If it's true, I'll be the first person to touch the baby!"
Hearing his naive words, Su Qinghe and Ji Yuan smiled without saying a word, while also feeling a sense of anticipation.
Su Qinghe even found her meals more delicious than usual, and she ate three bowls of white porridge with pickled vegetables!
...
After having breakfast, Su Qinghe continued to direct the servants in the mansion to decorate the new house.
Once everything was almost settled, she went back and wrote a few couplets, which she then posted at the gates of her courtyard and the three men's courtyards.
"Harmony brings a hundred blessings, peace is worth a thousand pieces of gold, and everything is renewed..."
Looking at the four large characters hanging high on the door frame, Ji Yuan's eyes flickered, and his eyes reddened slightly as if he was thinking of something.
“Brother, this seems to be a blessing for peace, but what about mine? What does mine mean? I don’t understand.”
After reading Ji Yuan's explanation, Ji Qingyu couldn't wait to tug at his sleeve, wanting him to help explain it to her.
"Let me see."
Ji Yuan blinked his already moist eyes a few times and turned to look at Ji Qingyu's small courtyard not far from him.
First line: With the spring breeze bringing success, a grand plan unfolds.
Second line: May all your wishes come true and may your family be blessed.
“Grand plans? I’m not a woman, what grand plans could I possibly have? Did Su Qinghe take the wrong one? This should be posted in her courtyard.”
"And why doesn't mine have a horizontal scroll?"
