Chapter 8: You'll get used to it if you keep calling out to it.

Su Qinghe carried the person in front, with the man following closely behind. He wanted to reach out and help her, but he didn't dare to touch her easily.

"What's your name?" Su Qinghe asked.

"Your Majesty, I... no... my name is Ji Yuan."

"From now on, just call me Mistress. I bought you to be my husband, not my servant. You don't need to call yourself a slave anymore."

Seeing his slight awkwardness, Su Qinghe turned her head and smiled reassuringly at him. After all, he would be her husband in the future, and she needed to treat him well.

"Yes... Mistress!"

Ji Yuan found it difficult to say, that he should address a woman who looked so much younger than him as "wife" was simply...

"What? You think I'm too young?" Su Qinghe teased.

"I dare not! I, I just... I just..." Ji Yuan stammered for a long time, not knowing how to answer Su Qinghe.

Seeing that his face was flushed with anxiety, Su Qinghe couldn't bear to tease him anymore.

"Alright, I know you're not used to it yet. It's okay, you'll get used to it after you call me that more often."

She didn't care what had happened to him in the past, as long as he was devoted to her from now on and did nothing to betray her, she would always protect him.

"Yes, thank you for your understanding, my wife."

Ji Yuan realized that Su Qinghe was teasing him, but he didn't feel disgusted at all; instead, he breathed a sigh of relief.

This means Su Qinghe doesn't look down on him! His future should be better.

...

"Doctor, could you please take a look at this person?"

Watching Su Qinghe carry someone into a clinic, Ji Yuan was initially delighted, but then, as if remembering something, a bitter smile appeared on his face.

What is he hoping for? Yu-ge'er is too badly injured. Once his wife finds out the price of the medicine, she definitely won't treat him.

Besides, Ji Yuan glanced at Su Qinghe's clothes in front of him; she didn't have that much money either!

He had long been prepared for Yu Ge'er's death, but he hoped that he could bury him himself so that he wouldn't become a wandering ghost.

Ji Yuan was lost in his own thoughts, while the doctor at the clinic had already given his conclusion.

"This young man suffers severe internal injuries, likely from being beaten, which has caused him to fall into a coma."

"I can get him some medicine for his injuries, but some of the herbs are quite expensive. Would you like to buy it, Your Majesty?"

The doctor noticed that Su Qinghe didn't seem to be very wealthy, and kindly offered this advice.

"How much does the whole set cost?" Su Qinghe asked.

"A total of 43 taels of silver!" The doctor tapped the abacus on the counter.

"Okay, please dispense the medicine!"

Su Qinghe was straightforward; a mere 43 taels was nothing to her now, and she didn't feel the pinch at all when spending it.

"Very well! Your Majesty, please sit for a moment. Your Highness, please serve tea."

The doctor beamed with joy. She hadn't expected Su Qinghe to actually be able to afford it; this meant she had earned three months' worth of income for the clinic in one go.

"Oh, and could you please bring two more boxes of ointment to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis?"

Su Qinghe suddenly remembered what the doctor had just said, that he had been beaten up, so he must have a lot of injuries. He was Ji Yuan's younger brother, so maybe Ji Yuan had some injuries too, just not as bad as him.

Thinking of this, Su Qinghe turned to look at Ji Yuan, wanting him to come over and have the doctor take a look as well.

But then she saw him staring at her with tears in his eyes, and after a moment's thought, she understood why he was like that.

Su Qinghe came to him, wiped away his tears, and gently comforted him.

"Don't cry, he can be cured, can't he? You should go and have a doctor take a look!"

"My lady... thank you!" Ji Yuan raised his hand to wipe away his tears, sniffed, and looked at Su Qinghe gratefully, his voice low.

Fifteen minutes later, the two left the clinic, and Ji Yuan had several large paper packages in his hand.

Let's find a place to eat first!

Su Qinghe carried the person into the restaurant closest to the clinic—Piaoxianglou.

Although it was past lunchtime, there were still many diners in the lobby.

Su Qinghe was carrying an unconscious man, which was quite eye-catching. As soon as she entered the room, several people cast curious glances at her.

"Waiter, a private room, please."

"Alright, please come upstairs, sir!"

The waiter courteously led the two into a room on the second floor.

"Sir, please take a look at the menu first, and I will go and prepare tea for you two."

After the waiter left, Su Qinghe placed the person in her arms on the soft couch behind the screen.

"Wife, mistress, what would you like to eat? I'll have the waiter prepare it."

Su Qinghe came to the dining table, and Ji Yuan handed her the menu.

"Do you have any dietary restrictions?" Su Qinghe asked.

“No, my wife can do as she pleases,” Ji Yuan replied obediently.

Su Qinghe didn't ask any more questions. She ordered a spicy dish according to her own preferences, and after thinking for a moment, she ordered a soup. Then she pushed the menu in front of Ji Yuan.

"We can't eat that much between the two of us, so I'll order one serving, and you can order one of your favorites!"

"Yes, my lady!"

Ji Yuan glanced at the menu and ordered the cheapest dessert.

Not long after, the waiter brought the dishes over, and Su Qinghe picked up her chopsticks and took the only spicy dish on the table—spicy chicken.

Ji Yuan originally intended to stand aside and serve food to Su Qinghe, but he was asked to sit down and eat together. He didn't dare to disobey Su Qinghe, so when he saw Su Qinghe pick up her chopsticks, he picked up his chopsticks and went to pick up the dish that Su Qinghe had touched.

But as soon as he put the food in his mouth, he choked and started coughing incessantly.

Ji Yuan quickly turned his back to avoid soiling the food on the table.

Seeing this, Su Qinghe got up and patted him on the back. Once he recovered, she noticed his eyes were red; he had been crying from the spiciness!

"Tianhe County is surrounded by mountains and has a high humidity level. In order to expel the dampness from their bodies, people in Tianhe County often eat spicy food."

"People here get used to it after eating it so much, and some even can't live without spicy food, so the spicy dishes here are much spicier than those in other places," Su Qinghe explained to Ji Yuan.

She is someone who can't live without spicy food, and the food in Tianhe County suits her taste. She was very satisfied with the spiciness of the spicy chicken.

"I see. I'm not from Tianhe County, and I occasionally eat spicy food, but I didn't expect the spicy dishes in Tianhe County to be so strong."

Ji Yuan wiped his mouth, his face slightly flushed, whether from choking or embarrassment, it was hard to tell.

"You like sweets?" Su Qinghe said, picking up a slice of the osmanthus-flavored glutinous rice lotus root he had ordered.

"I like it!" Ji Yuan nodded, taking a small bite of the lotus root.

"I know! But don't eat too much. Glutinous rice can cause indigestion, and eating too much is bad for your stomach."

"Mm!" Ji Yuan replied softly.

In no time, Su Qinghe finished the entire plate of spicy chicken by herself. Half a plate of lotus root remained.

"Have the waiter wrap up the rest of the lotus root and prepare a bowl of congee for you to feed him," Su Qinghe said, glancing at the man on the couch.

"I'm going out to buy some things. You all wait here for me to come back."
