Chapter 87 Proposal

Su Qinghe waited at home for several days without seeing Qin Anmin and his sister come to visit. Lin Xi was anxious and mentioned it to her several times.

After his repeated urging, Su Qinghe finally decided to take the initiative to propose marriage.

Qin Mansion.

"It's terrible, young master! Lady Su has arrived at the manor, and the captain wants you to go to the main hall!"

Outside the courtyard gate, several archways away, one could hear the sparrow's anxious cries.

He ran and shouted as he lifted his skirt, and as soon as he stepped into the courtyard, he was met with Qin Ange's panicked eyes.

"Did you hear what she came for? Or what she brought with her?"

Standing by the door frame, Qin Ange's hands were still in the posture of pushing the door open, her face flushed, and she looked at Que'er with hopeful eyes.

His chest heaved up and down, clearly indicating that he had rushed out in a hurry.

The sparrow shook its head.

"I don't know. I just saw her at the gate and heard the captain say he was coming to call you, so I rushed over. I didn't see Lady Su bring anything to the mansion."

Qin Ange's lingering expectations finally faded. He retreated back into the room, slammed the door shut, and clicked the bolt shut.

"Go tell my sister that I have caught a cold and am not feeling well, so I can't see any guests!"

From inside the door came Qin Ange's panicked shouts, and the faint sound of something falling to the ground.

Looking at the tightly closed door, Que'er reached out and tried to push it, but to no avail. With a distressed expression, she cried out into the house.

"Everyone in the manor has had their pulse checked today. You were perfectly fine a few hours ago. Do you think the Commandant will believe that reason?"

He tried to persuade them several times, pounding on the door until it was practically broken, but the person inside didn't respond. Helpless, he had no choice but to go back and report.

Inside the hall, Su Qinghe sipped her tea, while Qin Anmin sat opposite her, rubbing his hands together and trying to make conversation.

Seeing that she was about to finish her tea and the person who was supposed to come hadn't arrived, she couldn't help but look outside anxiously.

After finishing her tea, Su Qinghe placed the cup on the table, making a slight sound that drew Qin Anmin's attention back.

Looking at the composed Su Qinghe, she gave an awkward smile.

"Hehe, my dear sister, An Ge is probably still packing. What brings you here? Why don't you tell me first?"

Su Qinghe glanced at the sun and nodded, saying, "Alright, we should have told Sister Qin about this first."

After saying that, she turned to look at Qin Anmin with a smile on her face.

"After that incident..."

She paused, realizing that this was her first time proposing marriage, and it was under such an unusual circumstances that she couldn't find the right words to say.

When she mentioned that matter but only told half of it, Qin Anmin assumed that she had come to interrogate him, but she didn't want to be too explicit.

Then, noticing the row of small scars on her lower lip, he quickly adopted a sincere demeanor.

“That incident was due to An Ge’s lack of decorum, and it’s also my fault for being too lenient with him.”

"We should have brought him to our residence to apologize the day after he sobered up, but that kid is too shy, and we couldn't persuade him to come even if we tried."

"But don't worry, my dear sister, I will definitely bring him to apologize to you personally, and I will also discipline him strictly in the future."

She was afraid of upsetting Su Qinghe, so she spoke in rapid succession without taking a breath.

Knowing she had misunderstood after hearing only half of it, Su Qinghe didn't want to interrupt and waited until she finished speaking before waving her hand dismissively.

"Sister Qin, you've misunderstood. I'm not here today to interrogate you. Although I was injured that day, Young Master Qin's reputation was also damaged. Since we are friends, and I'm not a petty person, let's call it even!"

She smiled and spoke very fluently.

After resting for several days and drinking plain porridge for several days in a row, the teeth marks on her lips have scabbed over, and now she can hardly feel any pain unless she makes a big movement.

Despite Su Qinghe's politeness, Qin Anmin still felt a great sense of guilt.

After forcibly giving her a lot of wound medicine, they continued their previous conversation.

"So, what brings you here today, Sister Su?"

"Propose marriage."

Su Qinghe thought for a moment and decided to skip the pleasantries and get straight to the point.

"ah?"

Qin Anmin picked at his ear in disbelief and jumped up from his chair.

"Does Su Xianmei mean she wants to marry An Ge?" she asked again to confirm.

"Mm." Su Qinghe nodded with a smile, then continued:

"Young Master Qin is very special among all men. I have always admired him, but I always felt that the time was not right, so I never mentioned this to Sister Qin."

"We can't wait any longer after what happened that day. It wouldn't be good for Young Master Qin if we waited any longer. I suppose it's fate!"

Knowing that people in ancient times believed in ghosts and gods, Su Qinghe found a good excuse for her marriage proposal.

"Hahahaha—Good! Good! What a wonderful destiny!"

Qin Anmin burst into uncontrollable laughter. Upon learning that Su Qinghe had long harbored feelings for his younger brother, a huge weight was lifted from his heart, and he was overjoyed.

Looking back now, she was indeed very prescient that day!

"Sister Qin, don't be too happy yet. We still need to ask Young Master Qin's opinion on this matter."

Seeing Qin Anmin, who was completely different from before, Su Qinghe stood up and patted her on the shoulder with a smile.

"No need to ask. That kid will be jumping for joy when he finds out you're going to marry him."

Qin Anmin was so happy he was practically beside himself, and he pulled Su Qinghe along as they strode outside.

They happened to run into the sparrow who had returned to give a reply.

Where is your young master?

Not seeing anyone, Qin Anmin asked in a very good mood.

Que'er glanced at the two of them, then lowered her head and answered honestly as Qin Ange had instructed.

"A cold? He's kidding me! The doctor left less than two hours ago. If he had told me he broke his leg while climbing over the wall, I might have believed him!"

As expected, such an excuse was not enough to convince Qin Anmin.

"Hehe, I've made you a laughing stock again, Xianmei. Come on, I'll take you to him myself."

"Such a big thing, we still have to tell him. That kid is probably too ashamed to face you!"

Qin Anmin laughed loudly, ignoring the lying sparrow, and personally led Su Qinghe to Qin Ange's courtyard.

Seeing that the two had walked away, Que'er hurriedly returned via another path.

This time he knocked on the door even more urgently than before.

"Young master, please open the door quickly! The captain is bringing Lady Su with him!"

Footsteps echoed from inside the house. The door opened, and Qin Ange stood barefoot in the doorway.

"Quick, quick, Sparrow, help me get that navy blue dress!"

He opened the door for Que'er, gave her a command, and then hurriedly ran inside.

A flurry of activity ensued inside. Qin Ange changed into the clothes that Que'er usually praised the most, and even had Que'er fix his hair again.

After everything was tidied up, he jumped back onto the bed.

Although he knew that given his older sister's personality, she most likely wouldn't be able to escape today, he still didn't want to face Su Qinghe until the very last moment.

If we tidy up now, we won't be in a panic even if the blankets are pulled off later.
