The fever comes on violently and suddenly.
It was late at night, in the bedroom.
Shi Da Ying felt as if a pair of chopsticks were stirring in her brain. Her mind almost turned into a mess. She barely opened her eyes, and the room was pitch dark.
Because there was no window in the bedroom, there was no light inside after the kerosene lamp was turned off.
She felt weak all over and had no strength. She raised her arm and reluctantly put the back of her hand on her forehead to test the temperature. When she couldn't compare the temperature, she discovered that her hand was also hot.
"Red apricots... Red apricots..."
She called out to the maid, her voice was a little hoarse, no longer as crisp and clear as usual.
Hong Xing slept on the soft couch outside the room that Shi Danying had agreed to.
There is no difference between a couch and a bed, except that the space is not as big as a regular bed, so it's not a big problem.
She was sleeping soundly and did not hear the mistress's delicate calls at all. She even smacked her lips, turned over in her sleep, and made grabbing movements with her fingers. No one knew what delicious food she was dreaming about.
Shi Qian had always been in poor health. She suspected that she had eaten too many kinds of food at the banquet and her body could not bear it, so she caught a fever.
He couldn't reach Hong Xing by the voice, so Shi Da Ying had no choice but to endure the discomfort all over his body, reluctantly got out of bed, and staggered out of the dormitory.
There is a window outside the house, and a lot of soft moonlight shines into the house through the exquisite and intricate window lattices.
With her hair disheveled and bathed in the moonlight, she struggled to come to the sleeping maid, and reached out to touch the maid's cheek, which was pressed by the pillow.
"Red apricot..."
The voice became increasingly hoarse, weak, and frighteningly low.
Hong Xing was sleeping soundly, but she couldn't stand being touched. After a while, she opened her eyes in a daze, and saw a person with long hair and an unclear face standing at the head of the bed.
She was stunned for a moment, then quickly responded, "Master?"
"I feel so dizzy..." Shi Da Ying murmured, and fell on the maid, his chaotic mind turning into a complete mess.
"oops!"
Hong Xing screamed, and all her sleepiness disappeared. She woke up quickly, got up, moved the young lady to the couch, covered her with her own very warm quilt, and reached out to feel the temperature of her forehead.
Hiss, it’s so hot that it hurts my hand.
Hong Xing curled her fingers, then hurried out and brought in a basin of cold water.
She found three towels, soaked them in water, quickly wrung out the excess water, and carefully applied the towels to her forehead, temples, and the back of her neck, which were all burning hot.
It was impossible to go to the Imperial Hospital to get medicine in the middle of the night. The only way now was to cool down physically. Hong Xing was skilled and methodical, changing the wet towel for the young lady from time to time.
Shi Qian closed her eyes tightly, her long feathery eyelashes trembled, her usually rosy lips were now unusually pale, and beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
When the wet towel was placed on her forehead, she tilted her head back slightly and let out a few uncomfortable groans from her nose.
Hong Xing was almost heartbroken, and she took care of Shi Yi for the entire second half of the night, changing her towel and water, and occasionally using her fingertips to dip a little warm water to moisten her dry and dehydrated lips.
They worked so hard that the sky began to turn pale. The heat in Shi Qian's body finally subsided a lot, and Hong Xing's tense heartstrings relaxed.
She was exhausted from working for so long, her mind was confused, and she could hardly open her eyes.
The young lady's condition seemed to be much better, and the string that supported Hong Xing broke. She lay sleepily beside the young lady, closed her heavy eyelids, and fell into a chaotic sleep.
When Hong Xing woke up again, the sun had already climbed halfway into the sky. The warm and gentle sunlight set down, dispelling some of the winter chill.
Shi Ying woke up, but in a very bad state, listless. She leaned against the wall, with the window next to her only slightly open.
"My lady, how are you?" Hong Xing rubbed her eyes and asked with concern. She got out of bed quickly and quickly tied up her hair.
"I wonder if there is any food left in the imperial kitchen. I'll go get it..."
"Not feeling well." Shi Qiang's eyebrows drooped in a sickly manner. Her eyes, which used to be lively, were now dull. She answered Hong Xing's question in a soft voice:
"The sun is so high now, the imperial kitchen will not leave any breakfast for me, so I'll just have to be patient and wait until noon."
As soon as she finished speaking, an itchy feeling rose up her throat, and she gently covered her mouth with a handkerchief and started coughing.
Hong Xing gave Shi Dancing a rub on her back and said self-reproachfully:
"It's all my fault that I couldn't get up, causing the young master to go hungry."
"You took care of me all night, you deserve to get more sleep, don't say such things."
Shi Da Ying coughed and spoke incoherently. This maid was good in every way except that she loved to take on chores, which made Shi Da Ying quite helpless.
"Well, my lady, can I go to the Imperial Pharmacy to get you some medicine?" Hong Xing frowned slightly, "I don't know if the Imperial Pharmacy and the Imperial Kitchen are the same. I'm afraid they won't give it to you."
Due to the restrictions of the rules, except for beauties of higher ranks than concubines, beauties below that rank were not eligible to privately set up small kitchens to cook for themselves.
But if you are sick, you can go to the Imperial Pharmacy to get some medicine, boil it in a medicine pot and take it.
However, the problem is that the Imperial Pharmacy may not give the medicine to an unpopular little concubine...
This is also the reason why Hong Xing is worried. If she wasn't worried about this, the first thing she would do when she woke up is to get medicine for the young lady instead of worrying about whether there is any food in the imperial kitchen.
"Let's give it a try. If they don't give it to me, then forget it. I... can get better if I just hold on." Shi Qian took out this month's allowance and gave it to Hong Xing. This was the last guarantee.
Hong Xing also knew what the monthly allowance was used for. She bit her lip, a little resentment welling up in her eyes, but she could do nothing about it.
