Chapter 5
After breakfast, Chu Qi went out to look for a job.
The original owner's parents passed away three years ago, and the most valuable legacy they left to the original owner was an old and dilapidated single-family house located in a village in the city.
The house has one floor with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. There is a ten-square-meter yard with a well and a peach tree. The fallen leaves are usually cleaned up by Chen Yuanyuan.
The vegetables are planted in foam boxes filled with soil dug from the suburbs.
Usually, Chen Yuanyuan waters the vegetables very carefully.
Because of what happened the day before yesterday and yesterday, Chu Qi became a different person. She took charge of all the cooking tasks by herself, and Chen Yuanyuan even forgot about the dishes on the rooftop.
As soon as Chu Qi went out today, Chen Yuanyuan finished cleaning the yard as usual, and suddenly remembered that the vegetable seedlings on the roof had not been watered.
She paused in placing the broom and dustpan, then touched her head in annoyance, and quickly filled a bucket of water from the water tank in the yard and brought it up.
There are four foam boxes on the roof, lined up in a row, planted with onions, ginger, garlic, bok choy and white radishes.
The white radish has not grown up yet, and only stretches out crisp and tender little leaves upward. Because it has not been watered for two days, the little leaves seem to have lost moisture, and are wilting and drooping slightly.
Chen Yuanyuan watered the vegetables with a wooden spoon.
The time came to nine o'clock.
The scorching sun shone warmly on the ground, dispelling the morning chill and dew. The heat rose and the air slowly became warmer.
Chen Yuanyuan squinted her eyes and looked at the warm yellow sun. Suddenly, she walked to the edge of the roof and lay on the railing to bask in the sun quietly for a while.
The warm sunshine in early autumn made her feel drowsy.
What a pleasant weather.
These were the happiest two days of Chen Yuanyuan’s life in her 19 years.
She sincerely hoped that it would always be this good.
If only it could always be this good...
…
Chu Qi found a translation job at xx Publishing House, translating from Chinese to English. The work was paid on a daily basis, with more work more pay, and the pay was about 50 cents per order.
I spent three hours at the publishing house and translated six short stories. My work for today is almost done.
In his previous life, he was a social animal and had no time to enjoy life. He was exhausted every day and ended up being killed by a car at a young age. Chu Qi has now decided to plan his life around enjoying life.
Therefore, after receiving the salary for six orders, Chu Qi asked the editor-in-chief for leave.
It was the first time that the editor saw someone translating so quickly. He was stunned for a moment, then he took the translation manuscript handed in by Chu Qi and checked it carefully.
I found that Chu Qi not only translated quickly and well, but also had beautiful handwriting.
The editor-in-chief was surprised and asked, "Are you a top student who came back from abroad?"
The resume Chu Qi submitted only showed a high school education.
The editor-in-chief originally thought that Chu Qi could only translate two manuscripts a day.
I never expected that I would translate six articles in just one morning.
This talent is rare no matter where he is.
The editor-in-chief couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for Chu Qi's talent.
Chu Qi said: "No, I just like to read foreign articles in my spare time, so I have some knowledge of translation."
"That's not bad," the editor-in-chief nodded. "You'll start work at 2 pm. You..."
Chu Qi said, "I won't come this afternoon. Six articles is a bit too demanding. I'll come tomorrow."
"That's fine." The editor-in-chief nodded and patted Chu Qi on the shoulder: "Young man, work hard, and I'll give you a promotion when there's a chance."
“Thank you, Editor Kim.”
…
It only took me half a day to earn the three-dollar salary.
The original owner worked twelve hours a day in the factory, with one day off a week, and earned only 15 yuan a month.
Chu Qi earned the original owner's one and a half days' salary in just half a day. Chu Qi couldn't help but feel grateful for the time she had spent studying hard in her previous life.
Of course, her goal is not to be a small clerk. She wants to shine in fashion design like she did in her previous life.
Moreover, people's clothing types nowadays are not as diverse as those in later generations. Chu Qi naturally has the vision of later generations and believes that as long as he works hard, he can become rich.
No meat today.
Chu Qi went to the vegetable market and bought four pieces of tofu and five cucumbers.
Eat in two meals.
On the way back, Chu Qi heard a puppy whimpering. She became interested and followed the sound. She found a furry yellow and white puppy whimpering at a big dog.
The big dog was lying in the middle of the road, blood coming out of its mouth and nose, and it had already passed away.
Chu Qi frowned and couldn't help but feel pity for the two poor dogs.
One was very young and was killed by a car accident just like her, and the other lost its mother when it was still young.
Chu Qi held the plastic bag of vegetables in her left hand, grabbed the puppy's neck with her right hand, and lifted it up.
"Little darling, come with me, I will support you from now on."
As for the big dog...
Glancing at the people around, some were already ready to pick up the body.
She sighed secretly, not wanting to cause any more trouble, so she just grabbed the dog and left.
"Ahhh!" The little puppy was frightened by being suddenly picked up, and kept making pitiful cries, as if Chu Qi had done something to it.
When they were almost at the intersection, Chu Qi looked back.
There were two people dressed as students standing in front of the big dog.
She was stunned for a moment and couldn't help but stop and observe.
I saw the two men grabbing the big dog's limbs, one in front and one behind, saying something, and then carrying the big dog to the side of the road.
Then a few people dressed as students came over with shovels in their hands and started digging holes on the roadside...
A student?
A sincere heart.
Chu Qi felt a little emotional. The little puppy in her arms probably got tired of barking and became quiet. The little dog was held up in Chu Qi's slender and powerful hands, with its limbs drooping and its ears softly pressed against its head.
The long yellow and white hair fluttered slightly.
"My dear, your mother has been buried."
Chu Qi stared into the puppy's eyes and said this, then left the vegetable market intersection without looking back and walked towards home.
It was almost noon and Chen Yuanyuan's stomach was growling with hunger. Half of the porridge she cooked in the morning was left, but Chen Yuanyuan did not eat it.
She sat at the door of her house, staring at the intersection in the distance in a daze.
——Looking forward to the lonely ghost returning home.
Finally, a man appeared at the intersection.
The man was wearing a long shirt and long pants. His thick black hair was neither too long nor too short and stuck to his scalp casually, looking a little messy. He had handsome features, and walked towards me with long legs, the sun shining behind him.
He was getting closer and closer, and Chen Yuanyuan could clearly see the plastic bag in the man’s left hand, and what he was holding in his right hand... a puppy?
Chen Yuanyuan's eyes widened as she stared at the cute little creature in surprise. She carefully hid her excitement and pretended not to care as she asked, "Dog? Where did you get it from?"
Chu Qi handed the puppy to Chen Yuanyuan: "I found it on the road, do you like it?"
Chen Yuanyuan couldn't wait to catch it, her cheeks slightly red, she couldn't hide her excitement any longer, "Yeah... I like it."
Chu Qi nodded: "It's good that you like it. If you don't like it, I will throw it away."
