Xie Yan is now starting to doubt Zhao Dezhi's medical skills.
Just like today, Xie Yan clearly has a high fever, but instead of trying to lower Xie Yan's temperature, he prioritizes his own affairs.
If you say your child is just a little kid, that's fine, but if it's someone who really needs someone to look after them, that's perfectly normal.
But no! Their child is already two years old, can run around everywhere, and speaks quite fluently.
But they were able to leave behind the thank-you banquet for their seriously ill child to go see their own child.
If your child is important, then stay home and take care of him/her. Don't go to the doctor or earn that money. Why do you have to have both?
Xie Yan is truly speechless at this kind of doctor!
But what he couldn't stand the most was having to fetch water.
Even though it was a simple matter of paying for the goods and settling the payment, they still insisted on having Yu Yue fetch water.
I really can't accept a thank-you banquet!
Carrying water is a really tiring task.
Their home now has a well, so they don't need to fetch water.
But there was no water at the educated youth settlement. When Xie Yan first arrived, he also went to fetch water. Needless to say, the journey was long, and the carrying pole pressing on his shoulders was really painful, a pain that seemed to drill into his flesh.
You can't rest yet. If you rest for a while and then go back to carrying things, you'll be in so much pain that you'll jump up and down. You won't dare put the carrying pole on your shoulder again.
Xie Yan gritted his teeth and persevered in carrying water. Every time he came back from carrying water, his shoulders were bright red, and it hurt to touch that flesh even lightly.
Therefore, he absolutely loathed carrying water!
Luckily there's a well here, so we don't have to fetch water anymore!
Zhao Dezhi's family was well-off and could have easily dug a well, but they simply didn't.
After all, their family always had someone fetch their water, and they didn't have to lift a finger themselves, so they didn't care whether they had a well or not.
In their family's words, "Spring water is living water, well water is stagnant water, and drinking living water is better for your health." Everyone knows that! But spring water isn't always available.
During droughts, the spring water flows only drop by drop, and the entire village depends on that spring. Once a drought occurs, drinking water becomes a major problem.
Before Xie Yan came, there was a severe drought here, and their springs dried up!
There was simply no water left.
The villagers would sneak into other villages at night to steal water.
Yu Yuehui had both experienced getting up at four in the morning to steal water.
But other villages didn't want them to steal water either, and back then, fights and brawls were common over a little water.
The nearby villages were heavily guarded, so when they couldn't steal water, they started looking for water in more distant places. Finally, they found a village that was willing to give them water. That village had abundant water resources and kind people, but it was just too far away.
They did no work all day except carry water, and could only carry water once. In the end, in order to survive, every household bought a huge water jug, one jug of water was equivalent to two large buckets. They started taking the huge jugs and leading their village's cattle to fetch water from there.
Finally, a well appeared, and it was wonderful! With the deep well storing water, the water shortage was alleviated.
Even wells are not something everyone can afford to dig. To prevent the stored water from flowing away underground, bricks and stones are laid at the bottom of the well, and gravel and sand are laid on top. These not only prevent the water from flowing out, but also filter out the impurities in the water.
The well walls should be carefully constructed with bricks and stones, and the gaps should be filled with lime mortar.
That's not enough; when digging a well, you have to choose a good location.
When it rains, open the manhole cover, prop up the plastic sheet (the very thick kind), and fix the four corners. The two corners that are higher than the manhole opening will be lower. Then use a stone to weigh down the plastic sheet facing the manhole opening so that all the rainwater on the plastic sheet flows into the manhole.
Collect more water during the rainy summer months, so that even when the weather becomes dry and there is no more rain, you will still have water to drink.

Xie Yan lay on the kang (a heated brick bed) and decided to adjust his plans. He would study after school from Monday to Friday and dig for medicinal herbs on Saturdays and Sundays.
In the morning, should I get up at 7:00? No, no, no! I'll get up at 7:30, memorize my lessons until 8:20, then spend 20 minutes washing up and eating breakfast. I'll leave at 8:40, get to school in 5 minutes, get ready for 9:00 class, perfect!
Illness comes like a landslide, but recovery is like pulling silk from a cocoon.
Xie Yan was practically a living example of this statement. He had a headache and felt nauseous, so he couldn't eat anything. He had no energy at all, and even though it was a hot day, he felt cold lying on the kang (a heated brick bed) covered with a quilt.
Yu Yuehui opened the cabinet again, took out the new quilt her mother had sewed for her when she got married, and covered Xie Yan with it. Only after being covered with two quilts in the middle of summer did Xie Yan feel less cold.
When Liu Yihong came to see him, this was the scene that greeted him, and he was stunned.
He hesitated for a moment at the door before speaking, "Is it a cold? How come it's so serious?"
Xie Yan initially thought it was Yu Yuehui who came in and didn't pay any attention until Liu Yihong spoke up and he realized it was him. He opened his eyes and said in a hoarse voice, "You have a fever. Find a place to sit. Keep an eye on the school too. I can't go for the next few days in this condition!"
Liu Yihong waved his hand, "Just lie down and don't worry about me. Don't worry about the school either. It's just one class; I can manage it all."
Yu Yue was chopping firewood in the backyard when she heard a commotion in front of her. Thinking that something had happened to Xie Yan, she hurriedly ran over and saw Liu Yihong.
This was the first time the two had met so formally; before, they had only seen each other from afar on the street.
This was the first time Liu Yihong had directly experienced the shock brought by Yu Yuehui; she wasn't fat, she was strong.
