Chapter 290 Eye Contact Under the Moonlight

Looking at his bewildered expression, Yu Yue couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Xie Yan looked at her resentfully: "You're still laughing at me!"

"I've had such a terrible night!"

Yu Yuehui couldn't help but laugh and comfort her, "It's okay, just leave the clothes outside to air out tonight, they'll be fine tomorrow."

Xie Yan shivered from the cold wind, "Really, it'll be fine tomorrow?"

Yu Yue nodded. "Do you want to go back now?"

Xie Yan shook her head without hesitation, "That's not a good idea. Why don't I get some fresh air and go inside to try and bear with it a bit more? You can have a good talk with your mother and sister-in-law. You haven't spent much time with them all day."

"When I can't take it anymore, I'll come out and find you."

Yu Yuehui shook her head, took Xie Yan's hand, and said, "Let's go back together."

“When Mother saw you come out, she told us to go back first.”

"My second uncle is a chatterbox; once he starts talking, he never stops. I wonder how long he'll be talking tonight."

Xie Yan was overjoyed and nodded hastily.

Since his mother-in-law had said so, he naturally had to obey.

The two embarked on their journey home, surrounded by quiet, as if the whole world was immersed in tranquility.

However, tonight was different from usual. Every household had its lights on, and the warm light shone through the windows onto the floor, creating a stark contrast to the usual darkness.

This quiet atmosphere, yet also lively, makes people feel exceptionally warm and cozy.

On this quiet and unique night, a person was standing on a tree not far from Zhang Shiyu's house.

He stood motionless like a statue, his gaze fixed intently on the room, his eyes revealing an indescribable obsession.

Watching the shadows cast by the window flicker in the candlelight, his heart pounded involuntarily, as if every movement inside the room tugged at his heartstrings.

Gu Che was dressed in a black outfit, his figure blending perfectly into the treetops.

His gaze pierced through the dappled shadows of the trees, fixed intently on the house, trying to see the people inside through the heavy windows.

The moonlight, like water, fell upon him, outlining his slightly lonely figure.

He tilted his head slightly, listening to the laughter coming from inside the room, imagining her lively little expression at that moment, and the corners of his mouth involuntarily turned up.

The house was warm and cozy, with the family sitting together, enveloped in a cozy atmosphere like a soft veil.

Zhang Shiyu was initially immersed in the warm and harmonious atmosphere of being with her family, her laughter echoing like lively musical notes in the room. However, without warning, an indescribable and complex emotion surged up from the depths of her heart like a tidal wave.

This emotion is a mixture of sadness and joy, two completely different feelings strangely intertwined.

It was as if something incredibly important, something that had been missing from her heart for so long, had miraculously returned across time and space, filling that hidden void deep within her heart and instantly filling it up, yet causing her to tremble slightly from the sudden shock.

As if sensing something, she, who was usually most afraid of the cold, suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to go out and see what was outside, as if something outside was deeply attracting her.

This desire was like a blazing flame, burning fiercely in her heart, filling her with intense emotions, making her feel as if she wanted to burst out of the window.

She suppressed her inner turmoil, slightly raised her head, glanced at her family members, and hastily made up an excuse, her voice carrying a barely perceptible urgency: "Mom, I need to use the restroom." With that, she prepared to get up.

Upon hearing this, Zhang's mother immediately stood up as well and said with concern, "Let's go! Mother will go with you."

Zhang Shiyu's heart tightened, and she quickly shook her head vigorously, her eyes filled with anxiety: "No!"

Realizing his mistake after saying that, he quickly added, "Mom, it's not warm outside at night. I'll be there soon, so please don't come down."

Zhang's mother simply smiled, her eyes full of doting affection: "Your mother is dressed warmly, what's a little cold?" As she spoke, she was about to take another step.

Seeing this, Zhang Shiyu quickly reached out and pressed her mother down, her tone firm and unyielding: "No need, I'll be quick."

After saying that, without waiting for Zhang's mother to reply, he hurriedly got off the kang (a heated brick bed), put on his shoes in a flurry, and rushed outside like a moth to a flame.

Watching her hurried figure, Zhang's mother couldn't help but quickly remind her, "Slow down, don't rush."

As Zhang Shiyu ran out, she replied without turning her head, "I know."

As soon as she stepped out of the room, the cold air hit her face like ice blades, but Zhang Shiyu was completely unaware.

She took a deep breath, and the icy air traveled down her respiratory tract to her heart and lungs, making her slightly more awake.

Her eyes searched anxiously in the darkness, sometimes staring intently in a certain direction as if searching for something of utmost importance; at other times she would quickly scan her surroundings, as if just looking around casually, but her slightly trembling body betrayed her inner turmoil.

Not far away, Gu Che stood quietly under the treetop, like a statue, not daring to move. His fingers gripped the branches tightly, and his trembling lips betrayed his current mood.

He gazed at the girl, who looked like an elf in the moonlight, and time seemed to stand still at that moment.

The gentle moonlight, like water, shone softly on Zhang Shiyu, outlining her with a dreamlike silver edge, as beautiful as a dream.

Gu Che's breathing slowed down unconsciously, as if even a slightly heavier breath would frighten her.

His gaze was fixed on Zhang Shiyu, his eyes filled with unconcealed longing and cautiousness. Looking at her in front of him, he felt as if the woman from his past life had crossed the river of time and space, finally taking off her heavy dress and gradually becoming the woman she is now.

A tear slid down Gu Che's cheek, reflecting a crystal-clear light under the moonlight.

In an instant, Zhang Shiyu looked over here without warning, her eyes seeming to see him in the darkness.

Even though he knew she was watching him, Gu Che still subconsciously tensed up and tightened his grip. With a crisp "crack," he snapped the wrist-thick branch in two.

Zhang Shiyu suddenly smiled in that direction. Her smile was as bright as a flower blooming in early spring, full of vitality and life. It was like the morning sun shining through the thin mist into his heart. With a bang, Gu Che felt his whole world was lit up.

When Zhang's mother saw that her daughter hadn't returned for a while, she immediately put on her shoes and went out to look for her. When she saw her standing blankly in the yard, she immediately said, "What are you doing standing there in such cold weather? Come inside quickly, or you'll catch a cold."
