Xie Yan glanced at Zhang Aidang in surprise and shook his head. "No, it's just that older people find it more difficult to learn."
Then, he added tactfully, "Studying medicine takes time!"
What's the point of learning if you're too old?
Don't let it come to the point where you've learned the medical skills, but you don't even have two days left to live.
Isn't that just annoying?
I won't even be able to die in peace!
Zhang Aidang had no idea what Xie Yan was thinking. He was clearly much happier to hear that older people could also learn it.
After Xie Yan finished speaking, the others began to discuss it as well.
There are quite a few literate children in this village, but few of them are patient. The boys, after all, are more mischievous.
Besides, I've never heard of any child being interested in studying medicine!
Isn't Xie Yan's condition a bit too harsh?
Xie Yan listened to their discussion and felt increasingly uneasy. Why were they all boys?
Unable to resist, she loudly interjected, "Uncles, uncles, girls can do it too. In fact, girls are more patient and learn faster than boys."
Accountant Liu Peng waved his hand dismissively, "What's the use of this girl learning this? She'll still get married eventually, and in the end, it'll be someone else who benefits!"
Then he said decisively, "Boys should learn it."
The others nodded in agreement as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Exactly! What use would it be for a little girl to learn this?
Xie Yan was speechless and wanted to roll his eyes. When it came to choosing a daughter-in-law, he was always complaining about other people's girls and wanted to marry someone with ability. But now that this family is ruined, they're practically crushing the girl into the mud.
You can't learn this, and you can't do that.
He didn't argue with the group. Most men are stubborn, and older men are even more so. They are even more stubborn, especially since these are some of the more powerful older men in the village.
They are incredibly stubborn, and you'll never win an argument with them.
You say one thing, they say another; they always have countless bizarre and outrageous reasons.
Xie Yan simply gave up on arguing with them.
Sitting alone was really boring, so I quietly took out a handful of sunflower seeds from my pocket and ate them while waiting for them to finish their discussion.
And so, the group of people had a heated discussion, while Xie Yan calmly ate sunflower seeds on the side. If anyone's voice was too loud and disturbed him, he would frown slightly.
Yu Shan, who was arguing fiercely nearby, saw Xie Yan's behavior and looked over with a very unfriendly expression.
Xie Yanxian was bored and looking around when he met his father-in-law's sharp gaze.
He innocently held up the sunflower seeds and spread out his other hand, saying, "I don't know much about the children in the village, so I can't give any advice."
Yu Shan glared at him fiercely and then ignored him.
Xie Yan watched them discuss for a long time, and finally came up with a rough list. This list still needs to be screened by both the person in question and Zheng Hedong, and it is uncertain how many will be selected in the end.
After Xie Yan returned, he mentioned the matter to Zheng Hedong in a high-profile manner. Zheng Hedong paused slightly in his chopsticks, then said nonchalantly, "I can teach them, but I don't take on apprentices!"
"When I accepted you, I told you that you would be my last disciple."
Xie Yan quickly picked up a piece of meat, put it in his bowl, coated it with sauce, and ate it in one bite before slowly saying, "It's okay. I don't care if you're a closed-door disciple or not. If you meet someone you like and think has talent, you can take them on as well."
Zheng Hedong rolled his eyes. This was his principle, what did it have to do with Xie Yan?
Xie Yan: He's the one who's being sentimental!
Seeing that Zheng Hedong was about to take the last piece of meat from the pot, Xie Yan quickly snatched it, dipped it in the sauce, and took a bite. The tender meat trembled in his mouth, and Xie Yan sighed with satisfaction. It was definitely the best meat he had snatched.
Yu Zheng and Dong rolled their eyes in anger at Xie Yan's shameless behavior. "Don't you know anything about respecting the elderly and caring for the young?"
Xie Yan shook his head, saying shamelessly, "Sorry, I don't understand!"
Zheng Hedong: "Hiss hiss hiss!"
Seeing that the two were about to fight, Yu Yue quickly said, "Don't worry, there's still meat, there's still meat!"
"There's another plate here, just add some more."
Xie Yan pressed down on Yu Yuehui, who was about to get up, and said, "Wife, you sit down, I'll do it."
After bringing the meat over, I cooked a little extra and added a few well-cooked potatoes. "Here, the old man has bad teeth, so he should eat more potatoes."
Zheng Hedong glared at Xie Yan, "I'm not old yet!"
Xie Yan raised an eyebrow. "And you just told me to respect my elders?"
Zheng Hedong: "..."
That brat, he's infuriating!
Seeing Zheng Hedong glaring angrily, Yu Yuehui picked up a piece of freshly cooked meat for him. "Here, Old Zheng, the meat is ready, eat up!"
Zheng Hedong looked at Yu Yuehui with emotion, "Little Yue! Are you sure you don't want to learn medicine from this old man?"
"I think you have a real talent for medicine!"
"He's no worse than that brat!"
Xie Yan rolled her eyes elegantly, "Give me a break, she has a master, do you think she would even look at an old man like you!"
Zheng Hedong quickened his pace of eating meat, not forgetting to retort to Xie Yan, "I'm not old, I'm in my prime, don't you understand?"
Xie Yan looked him up and down, "Don't you even know who has such a scruffy beard in their prime?"
Zheng Hedong glanced down at Xie Yan's beard, then silently turned away, ignoring him.
That brat is really something, he doesn't even know how to give way to this old man.
As soon as I turned around, I saw Gu Che walking in from outside!
Xie Yan followed his gaze and saw Gu Che. He stopped Yu Yuehui, who was about to find bowls and chopsticks, and asked, "Have you eaten?"
Gu Che glanced at the meat and vegetables bubbling in the pot and shook his head honestly, "We haven't eaten yet!"
Xie Yan said directly, "Then go to the kitchen and get your own bowls and chopsticks. You know where they are."
Turning to the team, Yu Yue replied, "Let your family member take it himself!"
Gu Che nodded, "Yes, you sit down and eat, I'll get it myself."
Xie Yan watched Gu Che's retreating figure and sighed, "It's a good thing Gu Bin didn't come to eat today. If he had come too, we might not have been able to prepare enough ingredients."
Yu Yuehui nodded. When the ingredients were prepared, Gu Bin's portion was included, but he seemed to have something to do tonight. He came over briefly around 4 PM and wouldn't be coming over for dinner later.
But sometimes, it just happens without being reminded.
They finished talking about Gu Bin, and not long after, he came in from outside.
Upon seeing that it was a different flavor of hot pot than she had ever tried before, she instantly lost her composure and glared at Xie Yan accusingly, "You didn't even tell me we were eating something delicious!!"
Xie Yan rolled her eyes at him. "Who came here to say they weren't coming for dinner?"
Gu Bin froze, but still said matter-of-factly, "I didn't know you were eating hot pot?"
Xie Yan: "It's not too late to know now. Go to the kitchen and get your own bowls and chopsticks to eat. The dipping sauce is on the cutting board; just put it on as you see fit."
Gu Bin replied without turning his head, "Understood."
