Yu Yue's smile deepened, and she said gently, "Okay, our family will do whatever you say." After a pause, she added, "Would you like to see the baby?"
Xie Yan then suddenly remembered that he had neglected his little darling, and hurriedly asked, "Where is he?"
Yu Yue looked at him with a smile, her eyes full of love, "You're right next to me!"
Xie Yan: "..."
I quickly looked down and saw a little red thing lying next to me, all wrinkled up, with that adorable, ugly look that's unique to newborns.
"So ugly!" That was Xie Yan's first reaction. To be honest, a newborn baby is hardly good-looking. The words "so cute" circled on his lips several times, but he just couldn't say them.
He turned to look at Yu Yuehui with a hint of helplessness, his eyes unconsciously revealing a trace of disdain.
Yu Yue lay there, somewhat weak, but still smiled and comforted him, "All newborns are like this, they'll grow up and become more beautiful. Don't worry, our baby will definitely not be ugly in the future."
Seeing his wife's weak state, Xie Yan felt heartbroken. He quickly sat up straight and said softly, "Go to sleep for a while, honey. I'll stay here with you. I'll also look after the baby. You can sleep peacefully."
Yu Yuehui nodded gently, slowly closed her eyes, and soon drifted off to sleep.
Xie Yan gazed quietly at the baby who was nestled beside his mother, sleeping soundly.
The little guy was still all wrinkled, but perhaps out of a father's instinct, Xie Yan found a unique kind of cuteness in that wrinkled face at that moment.
Her tightly closed eyes resembled two crescent moons; her slightly pouting lips looked like a fresh cherry; and her even, rising and falling breaths were like the most beautiful melody in the world, all of which stirred a wave of tenderness in his heart.
He stood up quietly, making every movement careful, as if afraid of disturbing the sweet dream of the two, one big and one small.
Then, he gently picked up the blanket, slowly unfolded it, and carefully covered the two of them as if they were rare treasures. He then gently tucked the corners of the blanket in to make sure they wouldn't catch a cold.
Looking at this heartwarming scene on the bed, a belated sense of happiness, like a gentle stream, slowly welled up in my heart.
This happiness, simple and profound, deeply captivated him. It was as if all the noise of the world had quietly faded away at this moment, leaving only the two figures before him, one big and one small, which became the most precious scene in his heart.
Xie Yan felt an irresistible urge to take pictures. If only he had a camera right now, he would definitely capture this heartwarming moment, especially the precious image of the child. He could use these photos to "threaten" her to do chores later.
Just imagining himself leisurely reclining in a rocking chair, with his little one obediently serving him tea and water, Xie Yan couldn't suppress the smile on his face, which just kept getting wider and wider.
Just then, the ward door creaked open, and a nurse peeked in and quietly waved to Xie Yan.
Xie Yan instantly dropped his somewhat "worthless" smile, turned to look at the child's adorable sleeping face, and, making sure she wouldn't wake up anytime soon, quietly turned around and followed the nurse out.
As soon as the nurse arrived at the door, a bright smile spread across her face, and she said in a clear voice, "Congratulations, Brother Xie! I heard the baby is very well-behaved, and the delivery went very smoothly, without causing the parents much suffering!"
Xie Yan smiled and nodded repeatedly, responding with satisfaction, "Yes! This child is indeed sensible and a thoughtful child."
The nurse nodded vigorously and then said, "I only found out that Sister Xiaoyue gave birth when I came to the hospital this morning."
"I immediately went home and told my mother. She was so happy to hear that, and she started stewing the old hen. In another two hours, it should be almost done. My mother will bring the stewed chicken soup over. Please keep an eye out for it, Brother Xie."
"My mother's soup-making skills are unparalleled. The taste is superb, and Xiaoyue will definitely be happy and satisfied with her meal."
Xie Yan's eyes were full of gratitude as he sincerely thanked the nurse again: "Thank you so much, Auntie. It's not you who made two trips."
He leaned closer to the nurse and whispered, "Is the money for you, or for the old lady?"
The young nurse waved her hand, "Give it to my mother. She's the one who's busy. I'm just running errands and relaying messages."
After seeing the nurse off, Xie Yan looked up at the horizon.
The morning light pierced through the night like a sharp sword, and the darkness was slowly receding.
As he gazed at the gradually brightening sky, a flash of inspiration struck him, and the child's name instantly came to him: "Morning Dew, by Morning Dew."
The phrase "morning dew" carries the freshness and preciousness of morning dew, and also implies that new life is full of hope, like the rising sun.
When Yu Yue slowly woke up and learned that the child had taken her surname, a hint of bewilderment flashed in her eyes.
She frowned slightly, her tone tinged with confusion and panic: "Why, why is the surname Yu?"
After seeing the nurse off, Xie Yan looked up at the horizon.
Xie Yan keenly noticed the helplessness in her eyes, his heart clenched, and he quickly held her hand tightly, a gentle smile on his face, and softly explained, "Wife, you suffered so much to give birth to our baby."
“I was thinking of having the child take your surname.” After saying that, he paused slightly, looking at Yu Yuehui with eyes full of affection, and continued, “Of course, if you don’t think the name Yu Chaolu sounds good, we can have her take my surname and name her Xie Chaolu. What do you think?”
Upon hearing this, Yu Yue felt a sense of relief. She breathed a sigh of relief and a gentle smile appeared on her face. "I think Xie Chaolu sounds nice."
The three words, "Xie Chaolu~", seemed to carry endless sweetness and warmth as they were gently uttered from her lips.
Xie Yan nodded, "Okay, whatever you say. Let's call her Xie Chaolu, and her nickname will be Chaochao."
As for why she wasn't named "Lulu," Xie Yan recalled that in his later life, he had heard too many people around him named "Lulu." Although the name was common and had a touch of cuteness, Xie Yan didn't want his daughter's name to be so ordinary.
"Knock knock, knock knock knock!"
A knock came from outside. Xie Yan was filled with anticipation and couldn't help but feel a surge of joy: Could it be that the nurse's mother had brought chicken soup?
He took two steps at a time and quickly opened the door.
Hey, it really is that old lady!
Xie Yan greeted her warmly with a smile, "Come in quickly, Auntie."
The old woman bent slightly, a kind smile on her face, and carefully handed the chicken soup to Xie Yan, muttering, "Oh dear, young man, strangers shouldn't just enter a new mother's room. They say they'll take away her milk."
