Chapter 437 Paying Public Grain

Xie Yan didn't say a word, but looked at Yu Yuehui with great resentment, "Wife, you lied to me!"

Yu Yue turned around and looked big!

This is incredible! She really wasn't lying!

Could it be that my sense of smell is malfunctioning?

That shouldn't be happening!

Looking down at the child whose face was covered in juice, she asked, "Chao Chao, what's that smell?"

Chaochao held the tomato in both hands, her nose stained red. Hearing Yu Yuehui's words, she finally lifted her head out of the tomato. "It smells so good!"

"Can't Mom smell it?"

Yu Yue replied: "..."

Where is her willow branch? She wants to hit the child.

The sun during the hottest days of summer was incredibly strong; it dried all the wheat in just one week.

Yu Shan specially picked out the wheat that was to be handed over to the public grain and dried it again. He drove to the commune early that morning, around four o'clock!

When Yu Yuehui left, Xie Yan groggily opened his eyes and glanced at the time. It seemed to be only two o'clock. He closed his eyes and gave Yu Yuehui a few instructions, but he didn't even know what he said. He then turned over and went back to sleep.

When I woke up again, it was already past midnight.

Xie Yan stretched with difficulty, ate a quick breakfast with Chaochao, and then took Chaochao to her mother's place.

Qian Hongzhen was picking green beans when she saw the two people coming over. She reached out and hugged Chaochao. "Chaochao! Have you had breakfast yet?"

Chaochao nodded, "I've eaten, Grandma." As she spoke, she reached out and grabbed a handful of green beans, snapping them into pieces in a few quick snips. Xie Yan wanted to cover her face in embarrassment just watching.

His daughter is practically possessed by a curious child; she wants to try everything, and the end result is that everything gets destroyed.

Qian Hong is a typical example of grandparents spoiling their grandchildren. She dotes on Chaochao. When she saw the green beans that Chaochao had broken into pieces, she not only didn't scold her, but also smiled and said, "Oh my! Our Chaochao is so young and already knows how to help his grandma with chores! He's so amazing!"

These words instantly revived Chaochao, who had been feeling a bit annoyed that she hadn't done a good job. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Qian Hong and said in her childish voice, "Grandma~, Chaochao will help you!"

As he spoke, he threw the green beans in his hand into the basket and picked up another green bean to break it open.

Xie Yan originally wanted to teach Chaochao, but he had something to do today, so he gave up the idea and gently said to Chaochao, "Chaochao! You can learn slowly with Grandma. Dad has something to do today, but I will still buy you something delicious when I come back."

Upon hearing this, Chaochao, who had been happily playing with the green beans, immediately put them down, her eyes instantly welling up with tears as she looked at Xie Yan, "Daddy, can't you take Chaochao with you?"

Xie Yan nodded, squatted down, looked into Chaochao's eyes, and said very seriously, "It's not that Daddy doesn't want to take Chaochao with him, it's that the place Daddy is going to this time is the commune, which is very far from our home, and Daddy can't take Chaochao with him."

"How about Daddy takes you when you're three?"

Chaochao's face fell instantly upon hearing this. She knew she was still a long, long time away from being three years old, so she wasn't very happy.

Xie Yan patted her head and said, "It's okay. Just listen to Grandma at home and wait for Dad. Dad will definitely buy you something delicious when he comes back."

"Or what do you want to eat? Dad will buy it for you when he gets back!"

Chaochao originally thought she should have a lot of things she wanted to eat, but after thinking about it carefully, she couldn't think of anything.

But if she didn't say anything, she felt like she was missing out. Then, an idea popped into her head. She hugged Xie Yan's neck and said, "Daddy, if you see something delicious, can you buy one for Chaochao?"

Xie Yan found it amusing, but still nodded, "Okay! Dad will buy it all for you!"

"Remember to take a nap later, or you won't grow tall, you know?"

Chaochao nodded obediently. After Xie Yan calmed her down, he rode away on his bicycle without daring to look back.

At the distant gate, Chaochao's eyes were fixed on Xie Yan's departing figure as he rode away on his bicycle. Just as Xie Yan's figure gradually became smaller, tears welled up in her eyes instantly. "Daddy~ Waaaaaah~"

The sudden crying startled Qian Hong, who was holding her.

Qian Hong quickly coaxed him gently, "Chaochao, don't cry! Grandma will get you some candy later, okay?"

"You're the only one who gets to eat it! Not your brother!"

When Chaochao heard about eating candy, she nodded even while crying. She choked back tears and hugged Qian Hong's neck tightly, as if she had grasped her last support, but her tears flowed like a broken string of pearls.

Looking at her granddaughter crying so pitifully, Qian Hong felt a surge of resentment. This couple was really something, couldn't they have arranged their time differently?

They had to go to the commune on the same day!

Look at the poor child!

At that moment, Xie Yan, who was riding his bicycle in the distance, also felt uneasy.

Since Chaochao was born, Xie Yan has taken care of him most of the time. Even when he had to go to the commune or the city on business, he would always make a point of going out when Yu Yue was home.

This time, however, neither the husband nor wife were with their child. The thought that Chaochao might be crying her heart out right now made Xie Yan's heart clench like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, aching and throbbing with unbearable pain.

Xie Yan pedaled his bicycle at breakneck speed, eager to get to the commune, finish his business, and go home.

It wasn't that the thank-you banquet had to be held today; it was just that the principal of the commune's junior high school was usually very busy, and it was a rare occasion that he happened to be at the school today.

Xie Yan rode very fast the whole way, and it was just past ten o'clock when he arrived at the commune.

As he passed by the grain station, he saw a long queue, like a winding dragon.

People from different villages gathered together, chatting in small groups, their laughter and chatter creating a lively scene.

Xie Yan glanced around quickly, not seeing anyone from their village. He guessed they should be in the group, so he didn't stop. He pushed off with both legs and rode his bike past like a gust of wind, heading straight towards the school.

Having made an appointment with the principal beforehand, Xie Yan went straight to the principal's office after arriving at the school. After searching for a while, he finally saw the sign for the principal's office at the door of a small room. Xie Yan stepped forward and gently knocked on the door a few times, and heard a deep voice from inside, "Come in."

Xie Yan gently pushed open the door and went inside.

My gaze instantly fell on an elderly man sitting at the table. The man's hair was already somewhat gray, and he was wearing a neat Zhongshan suit. Although there were no patches, the cuffs were clearly worn, showing the marks left by time.

From the way the man wrote, Xie Yan could tell that he cherished this outfit very much, writing carefully as if afraid that the clothes would rub against the table.

Xie Yan smiled and said, "Hello, Principal Zhou!"

Principal Zhou looked up at the young man who had just entered.
