Chapter 444 Apology

The hospital ward was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant.

The smell intensified the tension at Xie Yan's banquet. He took a deep breath, trying his best to appear calm. He was a doctor, a doctor!

After repeatedly brainwashing himself, Xie Yan's gaze calmed down when he opened his eyes again. Feeling his left hand trembling uncontrollably, he reached out his other hand and completely enveloped his wife's hand.

"It's nothing, my wife just has some minor injuries, but Chaochao and Maodan are fine."

"I've had it checked, and it looks serious."

Upon hearing Xie Yan's words, Yu Yue nodded stiffly. She was so nervous that she felt stiff all over. She stared blankly at the door of the ward, and Xie Yan's words only reached her ears intermittently.

Liu Lanlan heard Xie Yan's words clearly. She breathed a heavy sigh of relief and leaned against the hospital wall, panting.

Fortunately, after a thorough examination by the doctor, neither child had any serious internal injuries; only their external injuries were quite severe.

Especially Chaochao, whose small body lay on the hospital bed, looked particularly fragile and pitiful.

Her tongue was severely injured. The doctor frowned, his eyes filled with reproach, and looked at Xie Yan, his tone full of helplessness and admonition, "You adults need to pay more attention to the children. How could you let a child suffer such a serious injury?"

"A little more force, and your tongue will break!" The doctor's words struck Xie Yan's heart like a hammer blow.

Like a drowning person, unable to breathe and suffocating, their fingers unconsciously begin to clench, their nails digging into the soft flesh of their palms, yet they still feel no pain.

Seeing Xie Yan and the others, whose faces were as pale as paper, the doctor, who had originally wanted to continue scolding them, ultimately stopped himself from speaking. He simply sighed and continued, "The child won't be able to speak for the time being. He can only eat liquid food to minimize the burden on his tongue."

Yu Yue nodded in agreement. She wished she had a small notebook to write down every word the doctor said.

Upon hearing this, Liu Lanlan's relaxed mood returned. "Doctor, doctor, where's Maodan?"

"It's that boy who came with us! How is he?"

The doctor looked up at the woman who was already sweating profusely, and his tone softened considerably, "The boy is fine, it's not a big deal."

Although the bald egg had many superficial injuries, fortunately they were all minor and nothing serious.

But Chaochao suffered terribly; her small body was curled up on the hospital bed, like a wounded little animal.

Crystalline tears rolled down her pale cheeks, wetting the pillowcase, but she bit her lip tightly, stubborn as a calf, not uttering a single whimper even as she trembled in pain.

Xie Yan turned her head away, unable to bear watching this heart-wrenching scene any longer.

The surging pain in my chest, like a raging tide, almost burst through my throat.

His Chaochao was such a well-behaved and obedient child, bringing endless joy to the family like a little angel. How could he have suffered such harm for no reason!

Outside the window, the sky was overcast, and dark, gloomy clouds seemed ready to press down at any moment.

Xie Yan's gaze grew increasingly calm.

He will definitely not let that fat woman off easily!

Looking at her suffering daughter, Yu Yue felt as if her heart was being torn apart, and her aura grew increasingly fierce.

She's going to throw the fat woman into the mountains to feed the wolves!

Just as she was about to turn around, Xie Yan grabbed her wrist. "Don't rush, I won't let her go. Let's stay with Chaochao first, otherwise she'll be worried if she wakes up and can't find her mother."

Yu Yuehui gritted her teeth, her fingers cracking as she used all her strength to control herself and suppress her aura; she couldn't frighten the child.

As for Liu Lanlan, she had long been so frightened by her sister-in-law that she huddled in a corner and dared not speak.

She never knew her sister-in-law was so terrifying; she looked like she was about to kill someone!

I'm so scared.

The children stayed in the hospital for a week.

Children recover quickly, and the external injuries gradually healed, but Chaochao still couldn't speak. She could only look at everything around her with her big, watery eyes, filled with grievance and helplessness.

During this time at the hospital, Xie Yan would explain Chaochao's injuries to her every day, and seriously explain the severity of her injuries and how she would recover.

They didn't coax Chaochao just because she was a little child.

Xie Yan knew her child was intelligent and told her that this would be more beneficial for her future recovery.

Chaochao knew that she wasn't really unable to speak, but that her tongue was injured and would recover, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

After realizing he wasn't mute, he laughed heartlessly.

The injury aggravated the wound, causing tears to stream down his face. Xie Yan couldn't help but laugh.

A week later, Chaochao's injuries had mostly healed. Except for his tongue, Maodan had fully recovered and would lie by Chaochao's bedside and talk to him every day.

She said that after returning home, she would practice martial arts with her aunt and would definitely be able to protect her younger sister in the future.

Yu Yuehui really thought about it very seriously, and after discussing it with Liu Lanlan, they decided to go back and train Maodan.

Upon hearing this, Mao Dan was overjoyed, completely unaware that his good days were yet to come.

After they were discharged from the hospital and returned home, before they could even settle accounts with the fat woman's family, the fat woman's husband brought her to the Xie family.

Xie Yan saw them and gave a cold laugh.

He knew perfectly well why this guy was apologizing.

It's all because of his mother-in-law's trouble-making. Now, the story of that fat woman beating someone's child and sending them to the hospital is not only widely known in Xiliu Village, but also in several nearby villages.

This old man had no choice but to bring the fat woman here to apologize, all for the sake of his family's reputation.

Neither Xie Yan nor Yu Yuehui spoke to the fat woman's apology. They simply stood there quietly, watching the two perform before them with cold eyes.

The fat woman looked extremely unwilling. She felt that apologizing to the young man was an insult to her. Her obese body trembled slightly with anger, her temples throbbed, and the fat on her neck rose and fell with her heavy breathing.

She cursed viciously in her heart, her hands clenching unconsciously until her nails dug into her palms, leaving deep marks, as if only in this way could she slightly alleviate the anger and resentment in her heart.

What made the fat woman even more embarrassed was that these two little bitches were actually just waiting for her to apologize.

This was already an utter disgrace. I thought I could just let it go, but I never expected that these two bastards would be so ruthless in making her lose face over a little girl.
