Chapter 463 Giving Gifts

It wasn't until Gu Bin rushed over at noon that Xie Yan finally understood the reason for the incident.

It turns out that Zhang Cehan is a retired soldier and a close friend of Gu Bin. He is currently working at the Housing Management Bureau.

"Haven't you always wanted to buy a house? You'll definitely need his help then!" Gu Bin patted Xie Yan on the shoulder.

Xie Yan felt a warmth in his heart and nodded quickly, saying sincerely, "Thanks, brother."

"But don't keep coming over to my place these next few days. Spend more time with your family. The state-run restaurant is so close to here, I won't starve myself."

Gu Bin sighed helplessly, "Do you think I want this? It's all because of my mom. She forces me to bring you food every day, saying it's not easy for you to be here all alone."

Xie Yan was both touched and a little embarrassed. He scratched his head and stammered, "I, I..."

He hadn't even visited them yet, and he had already received so many wonderful things; he felt really embarrassed.

Gu Bin interrupted him, laughing and joking, "Don't be so moved yet. My mom is just a kind-hearted person. She would have done the same for anyone else."

Xie Yan rolled her eyes at Gu Bin, but she knew in her heart that she truly owed Gu's aunt for her kindness.

Just from these two carefully prepared meals, you can tell that they put a lot of thought into it.

With that in mind, Xie Yan began racking her brains to think about what gift would be appropriate to bring when she visited Aunt Gu tomorrow.

Gifts that are too expensive might put pressure on people and seem too formal; but if the gift is too ordinary, it's simply not presentable.

Xie Yan was caught in a deep dilemma.

Gift-giving is an art.

Xie Yan thought about it all day but couldn't come up with a solution. Lying in bed at night, she was still thinking about it, tossing and turning and unable to sleep, her mind filled with thoughts of giving a gift.

Suddenly, he had a flash of inspiration and decided to look in his own space to see if there was anything suitable.

Gifts don't necessarily have to be bought first.

"Hey!" Xie Yan couldn't help but exclaim softly. He had actually found something good in a hidden corner of the space—a sea cucumber!

Moreover, each one is quite large, making them very high-quality dried sea cucumbers.

Upon careful recollection, it should have been sent by Zhou Siyuan some time ago, but he didn't know exactly when, and had completely forgotten about it in a corner.

Xie Yan counted them and they weighed about a pound.

He searched and searched but couldn't find a nice-looking bag, so he just grabbed a paper bag and carefully put the sea cucumber inside.

Looking at the bag of sea cucumbers, Xie Yan finally breathed a sigh of relief. With his important matter settled, he lay down on the bed, closed his eyes, and fell asleep immediately.

The next morning, Xie Yan ate breakfast early, tidied himself up briefly, and then headed to Gu Bin's house with the bag of sea cucumbers in his arms.

The residences here are not family quarters, but rows of traditional courtyard houses with a sense of history.

Each courtyard seemed to tell a story of the past, exuding a rustic and profound atmosphere. Xie Yan was itching to buy a courtyard house here; that would be absolutely perfect.

However, he also knew that most of the people living here were people of status and wealth who were not short of money. Buying a house here was not an easy thing; it was quite difficult.

Xie Yan was following the route Gu Bin had given her, and was just about to find her way.

From afar, he saw Zhang Linghui playing with her child at the door.

Tongtong, with her sharp eyes, was the first to spot Xie Yan. Excitedly, she tugged at her mother's sleeve, pointed in that direction, and mumbled, "Mommy~ Mommy, ahhh!"

Zhang Linghui turned her head in the direction Tongtong was pointing and immediately saw Xie Yan waving to Tongtong. A surprised smile immediately spread across her face. "It seems you and Gu Bin are really on the same wavelength!"

"He said you should come at this time, and you did!"

They truly are birds of a feather.

Xie Yan was slightly taken aback, then smiled and said, "Comrade Zhang Linghui, you're joking. Were you waiting for me all this time?"

Zhang Linghui gently shook her head and explained with a smile, "It wasn't really on purpose. After all, Tongtong can't stay indoors at all and keeps asking to come out and play, so I just happened to wait for you!"

Xie Yan smiled.

Then, following Zhang Linghui, after turning several corners in the alley, they finally arrived at Gu Bin's house.

Looking at the three-courtyard house in front of him, Xie Yan couldn't help but exclaim, "What a wealthy family!"

I'm envious.

As you walk into the courtyard, you can immediately see Gu Bin shirtless, intently chopping firewood.

His muscles rippled with each swing of the axe, each strike carrying a powerful rhythm, sending wood chips flying, demonstrating his focus and dedication.

Seeing Xie Yan enter the courtyard, Gu Bin put down the axe in his hand, a smug look on his face. He raised an eyebrow at Zhang Linghui and said, "See, wife? I told you Xie Yan would be here by now!"

"You still don't believe me!"

Zhang Linghui shook her head helplessly, smiled and admitted defeat, "Okay, you win."

Xie Yan looked at the couple and smiled helplessly, "You two are betting on me!"

Gu Bin clapped his hands and said enthusiastically, "Yeah! Why don't you join in too!"

Xie Yan quickly shook his head and joked, "Thanks for the invitation! I don't want to be tricked by you."

His wife isn't here, so no one's there to back him up!

He wasn't going to fall for the couple's tricks.

As they were talking, Gu's mother heard Xie Yan's voice and slowly walked out from the main courtyard, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Oh! Xie Yan is here!"

"Quickly, come inside." As she spoke, she turned and glared at Gu Bin, scolding him, "You really are something, don't you know Xiao Yan is injured! You even made him stand outside chatting with you."

Xie Yan quickly waved his hand and explained with a smile, "Auntie, it's alright, my little injury is almost healed! Don't worry."

Gu's mother shook her head with a serious expression, "Child, a back injury is no small matter, you must be careful!"

"You must recover fully; it's crucial for your future!"

As she spoke, she looked up at the sky and said, "Look, it's a bit chilly today. You should wear a jacket to protect your back!"

As he spoke, he told Gu Bin to find a coat for Xie Yan to wear.

Xie Yan wouldn't listen to anything she said, and finally gave up trying.

He sighed deeply, finally realizing where Gu Bin's stubbornness came from—it was hereditary!

After checking the clothes, Gu's mother looked at Xie Yan with a hint of reproach, "You child, you came all this way, why did you bring a gift!"

"Given your relationship with our Binbin, it's just like your own family!"

Xie Yan quickly said, "Auntie, this is just some dried goods, it's not worth much."
