Chapter 82 The formidable Yu Yuehui

Two days later, the recliner completely changed color, and a layer of tung oil lacquer was applied, making the entire recliner hard, shiny, and full, which made people happy just looking at it.

Sure enough, Xie Yan and Yu Yuehui lay side by side on the deck chairs that night, chatting while looking at the faint moonlight in the sky, with the incessant chirping of crickets in their ears.

Xie Yan turned his head and saw his wife's perfect profile.

It's so strange, how can someone have an average front view but such an amazing side profile!

This profile view would stand out even in a group photo of celebrities.

Yu Yue suddenly turned her head and looked at him with a smile. Xie Yan blushed at her gaze and started to chatter on and on about everything from the price of medicinal herbs to the delicious mutton.

Sometimes, due to nervousness, she would repeat herself several times, but Yu Yuehui never minded, listening quietly without saying anything to spoil the mood.

Before long, Xie Yan brought up the issue of not having enough cucumbers.

His face looked so bitter and resentful!

Yu Yue smiled and said, "You don't need to worry about that. I guarantee your cucumber won't break."

Xie Yan's curiosity was piqued, and he pressed for details, asking, "What are you planning to do?"

Did they plant some more somewhere? Or did they get them through some other method?

Even the dim moonlight couldn't hide his gossipy gaze. Yu Yuehui smiled and pushed his head away a little. "What are you thinking about? There are many people in our village who grow cucumbers. Many families can't eat them all. Like Cherry's family, they have so many cucumbers that they give them away everywhere. If I go and take some, she will thank me!"

Xie Yan was puzzled. Since everyone in the village grew cucumbers, there should be a educated youth settlement there too! After all, there were readily available seeds.

"Why didn't the educated youth settlements plant any crops?"

Yu Yue smiled and said, "What else? Have you heard the story of the three monks?"

Xie Yan nodded. Who hadn't heard this before? It was a children's story from when they were kids.

Yu Yuehui continued, "It's the same principle. The educated youth in the educated youth settlements also passed the buck from one to another, saying they didn't want to do any more work. Cucumbers are different from other vegetables. When they are first planted, they need to be carefully cared for. When it's dry, they need to be watered. When it rains too much, they need to be irrigated. When they grow up, they need to be trellised!"

"Which of the educated youth in the settlement would be willing to do such a troublesome thing! The vegetables they grow are all easy to grow; once planted, they don't need to be tended to!"

"At most, it's just weeding."

Xie Yan was puzzled again, "Cucumbers are so difficult to grow, why do most families in the village grow them?"

"It's difficult to grow, but it tastes great! This stuff not only quenches thirst but also fills you up, making it much more cost-effective than regular vegetables," Yu Yuehui continued.

Xie Yan stretched and said, "Let's go! Let's go back to our rooms and sleep!"

Yu Yue recalled what her father had said and pulled Xie Yan, who was about to go inside, saying, "You have to go to school tomorrow, you know?"

Xie Yan: "Ah!"

He really didn't know!

Nobody told him! How was he supposed to know?

But the thought of not being able to stay home and relax starting tomorrow, and having to go to work, makes Xie Yan feel bad!

Why can't he just be a lazy bum?

Oh! So it's because they're poor!

Seeing Xie Yan's expression, Yu Yue shook her head, "I knew it... Father insisted that you definitely knew the time, after all, everyone outside is talking about it!"

Reopening the primary school is a big deal, and Xiliu Village, along with several nearby villages, has been discussing it for the past few days.

Xie Yan scratched his head sheepishly. He was a homebody who rarely went out, so he really didn't know! He quickly followed up with his wife, asking, "What time tomorrow? What time will you be at school?"

Let's see if I'll be able to sleep in anymore!

Yu Yue turned her head and said calmly, "No rush, we'll go after dinner tomorrow. The main reason for going tomorrow is to see how many people there are so we can divide them into classes!"

"Classes don't officially start until the day after tomorrow!"

Xie Yan then pressed on, "If it's class, what time do you go?"

Yu Yuehui was very surprised, "You didn't know this?"

Xie Yan nodded, "Yeah! Nobody told me!" The school isn't like it will be in the future, with everyone starting at the same time. How would he know?

Yu Yue replied, "Didn't I tell you? That shouldn't be the case! Shouldn't I have told you about this already?"

Xie Yan nodded affirmatively, "Father definitely didn't tell me! Of course, I didn't ask either!"

Yu Yuehui seemed thoughtful; her father didn't seem like the type to make such a mistake! "The official class time is from 9:00 to 11:00 in the morning and from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon."

This really can't be blamed on Yu Shan. He saw that Xie Yan didn't ask about it that day, so he assumed that Yu Yue had already told him and didn't bring it up. Who knew that in the end neither of them mentioned it.

Xie Yan was secretly delighted; the class schedule was exceptionally well-arranged!

"Who is the other teacher?"

Xie Yan didn't know who the other teacher at the educated youth settlement was, but he was certain it wasn't Gu Bin, otherwise he would have come over and told him already, instead of remaining silent like this.

Yu Yue lit the lamp, and seeing the light come on brightly, she took two steps back before saying, "The elder brother of the educated youth settlement, Liu Yihong."

It was him! It was him! Xie Yan had a feeling that he knew it was true. It wasn't surprising that it was him. Although Liu Yihong usually acted like a peacemaker, he had never neglected his studies and was always thinking about returning to the city to take the job exam.

Therefore, he did not miss any of the knowledge in the textbook.

Xie Yan could only lament once again how useless Gu Bin was. Even though he had told him in advance, he still couldn't seize the opportunity. It seemed he was destined to be a laborer!

Gu Bin was actually wronged. It wasn't that he didn't work hard; it was simply that his opponents were too strong.
