The water was brought over by Qian Hong this morning, and it was almost boiling hot, but even though it was so hot, Xie Yan couldn't feel the temperature inside it.
Even the enamel cup in the spot where he was holding it had gone cold.
When Yu Yue saw Xie Yan's hands, which were stiff and frozen, she felt extremely sorry for him. She lifted the blanket and let Xie Yan warm them on the bed.
Xie Yan's brow twitched when he saw her movement, and his tone was stern, "Sit still and don't move. I feel cold all over right now, but I'll be fine in a bit!"
Yu Yuehui was still unwilling to give up, "Then shall I pour you another glass of water?"
"If all else fails, come here and I'll help you take your scarf off. Is that alright?"
Xie Yan shook his head and even took a few steps back. "You stay seated and don't move. My hand has recovered now. Do it yourself. Don't move!"
As she spoke, she raised one hand and took off the scarf around her neck.
Taking advantage of his inattention, Yu Yuehui had already reached his side, taken the scarf from his hand, and placed it on the stool next to him.
Xie Yan: "..."
Xie Yan looked at the smiling woman in front of him, but the reprimand he was about to say wouldn't come out. Meeting her eyes that were full of him, he could only sigh helplessly, extend a finger, and press her back a few steps. "Stay a little further away from me, don't get cold."
"Can't you feel the coldness emanating from me?"
Yu Yuehui put her hands on her hips and looked up at Xie Yan, "How could this little bit of air conditioning possibly freeze me!"
"You underestimate me!" You think it's you? Of course, Yu Yuehui only dared to say the last sentence in her heart.
Xie Yan glared at her. "Yes, yes, you're amazing, but are you the same as you were before?"
As she spoke, she unbuckled her backpack and took out a thermal box from inside (actually, a storage space). "My sister-in-law made this chicken soup. It tastes incredibly delicious."
"Take it and drink it over there."
Yu Yue took the lunchbox, and her fingers accidentally brushed against Xie Yan's hand. It felt like touching ice, making her hand instinctively flinch.
Looking up at Xie Yan, who was still pretending to be nonchalant, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears.
Xie Yan was originally waiting for her to drink the chicken soup so he could secretly stomp his feet, but when he saw her eyes suddenly redden, he was startled and quickly took two steps forward, anxiously asking, "What's wrong? What's wrong?"
"Does your stomach hurt?" The last few questions were asked with trembling voices.
Yu Yue shook her head, sniffed, tears welling in her eyes, and said with a smile, "It's okay, I'm fine, it's you who's in trouble!"
"Look at your hands, they're like popsicles now." As she spoke, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
She turned around and wiped it away, poured a cup of chicken soup and handed it to Xie Yan, saying in a muffled voice, "Hurry up and drink a bowl to warm yourself up."
Xie Yan breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she was alright, and said nonchalantly, "I'm fine, I just caught a chill on the way, I'll be fine in a bit."
Yu Yuehui felt even worse, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. "What do you mean 'it's okay'? I'm practically frozen solid, and you say it's okay?"
Xie Yan put down his enamel cup, took the chicken soup with both hands, placed it on the table, and then gently hugged her. "Wife, don't cry. The baby in your belly can feel you crying now, and it will cry with you later."
"How could you bear to make our baby sad?"
Yu Yue pouted. She knew she shouldn't cry now, but she just couldn't control herself.
Xie Yan rubbed his fingers vigorously, trying to make them less cold and more flexible. He picked up a towel hanging nearby and gently wiped away Yu Yuehui's tears. "Wife, come and take a deep breath with me. Yes! Just like that, slowly calm down."
After Xie Yan took a few deep breaths, Yu Yuehui felt the stuffiness she had just felt lessen.
Turning around, she picked up the chicken soup again, "Then you drink this!"
Xie Yanshun then picked up the enamel mug next to him, blew on it a few times, and took a small sip. "This is enough for me."
"You drink that one. This chicken soup is very hot, and I can't drink it right now."
"By the time it cools down, I'll be fine." She lowered her voice, "This was scooped directly from a boiling pot; it was hotter than my cup of water!"
Are you sure you want me to drink this?
Yu Yue sniffed, "Then, then you can drink with me later."
Xie Yan could only nod, not wanting to make her cry again, "Okay, I'll drink with you later."
"Stop crying now, let me finish this glass of water, okay?"
Yu Yuehui's emotions have calmed down now, and she feels a little embarrassed. She's such a grown-up, yet she cried just now. How shameful!
He turned his face away awkwardly and said, "Drink your water and stop talking so much!"
Xie Yan smiled secretly, took small sips of water, and as the hot water went down her stomach, the warmth slowly spread throughout her body.
Yu Yue turned her head and looked at the opened insulated box. Inside, she saw golden and clear chicken soup with white steam rising in wisps. The surface of the soup was calm and still, without a single drop of oil floating on it, as clear as a spring.
The chicken meat is barely visible in the soup, stewed until extremely tender, so tender that it seems the meat could be easily separated from the bone with a gentle poke.
The rich aroma irresistibly filled her nostrils, the mellow meaty fragrance carrying a hint of sweetness—a unique scent emanating from the perfect fusion of chicken and dates. Yu Yuehui unconsciously swallowed.
Qian Hong, who had just returned from getting her meal, smelled the overpowering aroma as soon as she entered the house.
"Oh! This is chicken soup?"
Yu Yue looked at Qian Hong with a smile, "Mom, doesn't the chicken soup my sister-in-law made smell delicious!"
Qian Hong was surprised for a moment that her daughter-in-law would remember to make chicken soup for her daughter!
Turning my head, I saw Xie Yan drinking water over there, and I immediately realized that Xie Yan must have taken the chicken over to have it stewed!
However, my daughter-in-law's chicken stew is really good; it tastes even better than the chicken stew from state-run restaurants!
"It smells really good. I just happened to have bought steamed buns, but I didn't buy soup." The sentence stopped abruptly as she stared incredulously at the chicken soup in the insulated container—not a drop of oil?
Yu Yue immediately understood her mother's thoughts and quickly explained, "Mother, Xie Yan asked my sister-in-law to make this especially for me. I feel uncomfortable whenever I see oil flowers these days."
Qian Hong looked at Yu Yuehui in disbelief, "You feel uncomfortable just seeing oil flowers? You've only had a few good days, how can you not stand it?"
Am I destined to suffer?
Thinking of this, Qian Hong's face fell.
Yu Yue looked urgently at Xie Yan, "Help!"
After finishing the last sip of water, Xie Yan smiled and said, "Mother, you don't know this, do you? Yuehui has been eating a lot of oily food these past few days, and the baby in her belly is protesting and wants to eat something light."
"But you know her current situation, so this is the only option that's light and nutritious."
