The truly wise person is neither saint nor mortal, sees emotions and perceptions as empty, understands nothingness, and perceives essence and function as they are—this is true wisdom. This is the Way.
What we cultivate is the Dao as its essence and the five supernatural powers as its application. If we use them without first attaining the essence, we will inevitably fall into depravity and suffer consequences, which is truly terrifying.
