Chapter 1633 Do you have a way to make money?
It was a rare occasion for someone to sit outside the carriage with Lian Tang, so he couldn't help but chat with Xia Fuyi on the way.
"I heard that after Elder Taixu died, no one was able to solve that chess game for three years. So you've been guarding the mountain for those three years?"
"yes."
"You haven't come down for three whole years?"
"yes,"
Xia Fuyi paused and added,
"It's not just three years. I've been going up the mountain for five years."
"Haven't you been down here in five years?"
"yes."
"What are you eating?"
"There's a vegetable garden on the hill."
Lian Tang was still a little surprised, but he didn't ask any more questions and changed the subject.
"So, in the past three years, have you stopped everyone who came up the mountain and challenged them to a duel?"
"yes,"
She explained with a cold face,
"Master said that only those who can beat me are qualified to play that game of chess."
"So, none of the people who went to play chess were able to break the chess game?"
Xia Fuyi looked at him strangely and said,
"Not a single one. They lost to me without even seeing the chessboard."
Lian Tang: ...
Lian Tang thought she was lying. She was just a little girl. Many martial arts masters had probably practiced martial arts for longer than she had lived. How could there be no one who could defeat her? Even Taixu's disciples were exaggerating.
Lian Tang, who secretly believed that the little girl was bragging, was too lazy to ask any more questions. Instead, Xia Fuyi looked at the long official road ahead and asked,
"Where are you going?"
"That depends on what you order, sir."
He turned his head to look at the carriage, but it was very quiet inside, without any sound coming out.
Xia Fuyi also looked back. Although she was not worldly-wise, she understood that the other person didn't want to talk about it, so she stopped asking.
After sitting for only a moment, she couldn't help but say,
"Your name is Lian Tang, what's your son's name?"
Lian Tang glanced at her and said,
"My son's surname is Li Chi."
"Li Chi?"
Lian Tang nodded, and Xia Fuyi finally shut up completely, leaning against the car door, closing her eyes and taking a rest.
The late autumn wind blew through the wild grass and flowers on both sides of the official road, carrying a light and simple fragrance that floated in her long hair.
Lian Tang sped up, and the carriage finally entered Yangui City before dark.
ยท
Yangui is a border town of Chiwei State.
There is no prosperous scene in the city, but it is filled with the solemnity and ruggedness unique to the border. The vendors on the street are all dressed differently, and there are many Hu people with deep features and blue eyes.
The carriage stopped in front of an inn. Xia Fuyi jumped out of the carriage and turned around to look.
The man in black named Li Chi had already lifted the curtain and came out, supported by Lian Tang's arm as he got out of the car.
He nodded at her politely yet distantly, walked into the inn, and Xia Fuyi followed him.
"Sir, would you like to stay overnight or have a meal at the hotel?"
As soon as he entered the door, a waiter came forward with a smile on his face. Lian Tang quickly paid the money at the counter.
"Two rooms..."
He suddenly stopped in the middle of his words, turned his head stiffly, and looked into a pair of dark peach blossom eyes.
Lian Tang: ...
He looked at the young man beside him with a look of help, not knowing what to do.
Li Chi also turned his head like him, and the girl was looking at him eagerly, her eyes clear and cold, yet full of innocent and confused expression.
He coughed and asked,
"Have you any money?"
Xia Fuyi shook her head.
Li Chi sighed helplessly and said to the shopkeeper,
"Three rooms."
Lian Tang immediately paid an extra dime and went upstairs with his bag.
Xia Fuyi followed Li Chi with a sword in hand and found a place to sit in the lobby.
"I'll pay it back to you later."
