Chapter 1985 [Shangxie] Long Live the Emperor

Chapter 1985 [Shangxie] Long Live the Emperor

He walked out slowly from behind the pillar, his dark boots with gold edges stepped on the carpet step by step, with an air of extreme nonchalance. On the cloak, there were spots of golden light flickering slightly as he walked, and the candlelight illuminated it into a golden dragon with bared fangs and claws, ready to soar into the sky.

Chang Sun Qingzhao lowered his head and leaned forward, raising his voice respectfully.

"Long live our emperor."

After the sound, all the ministers in the room knelt down one after another, and the sound echoed out from the hall in a unified and mighty manner.

"Long live our emperor!"

The man walked across the carpet amid the roar of worship without even glancing down.

It was not until he walked to the dragon throne, spread out his cloak and sat down, then he leaned forward slightly to support his chin, and looked casually at the heads of people knocking their heads on the carpet below.

Unlike his own ministers, the Jin Liang envoy only half-knelt in the crowd and did not perform the full kneeling ceremony. The tall man who only bent slightly and did not even kneel was of course more conspicuous in such a crowd.

But even though he was so conspicuous, the Regent never received a single glance from the Emperor, as if he was just a pile of air with no sense of existence. Changsun Chi completely ignored him.

The man had a smile on his face and tapped his fingers lazily on his chin. He didn't rush to wake everyone up, but asked with a smile as if to greet everyone.

"I don't know why, but seeing so many familiar faces in this palace today makes me feel so nostalgic. Do you remember the last time you saw me?"

The room was quiet just now, but now it suddenly turned into a dead silence where even breathing was stifled.

Many ministers held their breath in a cold sweat, pressing their heads even harder against the ground, wishing they could just burrow into the floor.

This was a question that no one dared to answer, so Chang Sun Chi pointed out someone to answer it.

"Minister Chen, please answer me. When was the last time you saw me?"

The Minister of Revenue who was named shuddered a little, straightened up slightly, but did not dare to look at the emperor, and said in a tense voice,

"The last time I saw Your Majesty was at the state banquet last year. Your Majesty even gifted me a dish."

In the tense silence of the room, Chang Sun Chi narrowed his eyes slightly and muttered to himself,

"Come to think of it, I haven't attended court for half a year."

He spoke in a low voice, like a casual sigh, but it made the usually calm Changsun Qingzhao look up and stare at him without hesitation.

The emperor sitting high up seemed to be completely oblivious to this gaze. He only supported his chin with a faint smile. The smile was extremely nonchalant, yet carried a deep sense of boredom.

Chang Sun Chi blinked, and waved his hand as if he was tired of playing, as if waving away a nasty mosquito.

"Everyone, please stand up."

The Jinliang envoy, who had been tied up and half-kneeling for most of the day for no reason, sat down with an indignant expression on his face. However, Changsun Chi seemed to not care about the feelings of the envoy from another country. He simply greeted him twice and started drinking by himself.

The Jinliang envoy became even angrier and slammed his wine glass heavily on the table. Changsun Qingzhao was sitting next to him, but he showed no intention of comforting him.

But even though he did not take the initiative to comfort him, the messenger was not at all shy and said to him with suppressed anger,

"We are here to pay tribute. Although His Majesty Chiwei is of noble status, he shouldn't be so disrespectful to me, Jin Liang, right?"

Chang Sun Qingzhao curled the corners of his lips, still slowly pouring himself a glass of wine, his voice nonchalant.

"Your Majesty is not someone who doesn't know etiquette. It's just that he drank too much, so his behavior is always a little reckless."
