Chapter 1986: The Palace Maid's Name is Fuyan

At the palace banquet specially held to entertain the envoys from Jinliang, Emperor Chiwei not only failed to treat the envoys with a friendly and respectful attitude, but instead treated them with contempt. To put it mildly, this was a personal neglect of the envoys, and to put it more broadly, it was a neglect and contempt for the entire Jinliang.

The Jinliang envoy began to drink alone and even ignored the conversations of some ministers. However, the two people with the highest status here did not pay any attention to him.

The banquet was still going on. Dancers came in gracefully amid the sound of string music. In the lights all over the hall, the dancing gauze skirts and the blurred faces of beauties under the veils attracted everyone's attention, even the emperor who was concentrating on drinking seemed to be no exception.

The palace maid who was responsible for pouring wine for the ministers couldn't help but look up at the man sitting on the high platform as she retreated.

For some reason, although it was the first time she had the honor of meeting His Majesty, she always felt that he was familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere.

Looking up from her angle, she could only see the corner of the man's crimson robe and a hand extending from his sleeve. His knuckles reflected the candlelight, but they were even more flawless than the Nine Dragon Jade Cup in his hand, and were as warm and cool as if a luster emanated from his bones.

The gurgling sound of water should have been far away from her, but when the wine jug was poured out, for some reason a very clear sound rang in her mind.

The candlelight fell into the eyes, but it rendered a dim night with stars and moon. In the night, someone was sitting behind the screen with a faint picture of rivers and mountains, drinking, with the same casual and decadent posture, as if the dead and silent night without the sun was no different from the luxurious and lively banquet in front of him, and he still exuded the same aura.

Just like the ashes left after a blazing fire, he was too lazy to notice anything in the world. For him, there was nothing in the colorful world worth clinging to.

The maid was stunned on the spot. While she was in a daze, someone suddenly reached out and pulled her.

"Fu Yan! Are you crazy?"

After hearing the reminder, she suddenly came to her senses. She actually stared at His Majesty, whom she had no right to look at, in such an important occasion!

Fu Yan lowered her head with a pale face and glanced around. Fortunately, no one noticed her loss of composure. Fu Yan breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly retreated with the others.

She retreated behind a minister, ready to pour wine and serve food. However, before she could get busy again, a crisp knocking sound suddenly came from the stage. Although she tried her best to control herself, Fu Yan couldn't help but quietly raised her head and looked upwards.

In the sight, the emperor in a red robe seemed to have just put down his wine glass. Perhaps because he was in a bad mood, the sound of the bottom of the cup hitting the table was quite loud, which instantly suppressed the noise in the room. The hall was quiet for a while. The regent on the right put down the wine glass under the obscure gaze of everyone, slowly stood up, bowed, and called out "Your Majesty" in an inquiring manner.

The emperor glanced at him with a half-smile, then withdrew his gaze with boredom and slowly stood up, saying in a casual voice,

"I am a little drunk, so I will not accompany you, my dear ministers."

All the ministers in the hall immediately knelt down.

"Farewell, Your Majesty! Please take care of yourself!"

The emperor waved his hand lazily, turned around and walked to the back of the hall. The corner of his crimson cloak swept across the carved table, and the Nine Dragon Jade Cup was knocked over, spilling a pool of transparent and mellow wine.

The wine reflected the bright lights, and the emperor's back swayed and gradually disappeared in the lights.

The Regent stood there for a long time before slowly retracting his gaze. He sat back down with a faint smile on his face. When he turned around and clinked glasses with others, he still looked as if nothing had happened.
