39? Tough

39. Tough

She'll eventually get used to him.

"Wake up, Mr. Ling has something to show you."

The unconscious person hung their head and did not respond to the doctor's words.

"Go to the operating table, I'll take a look at him." Ling Zhou's assistant, Li Wenli, walked in. He pushed the doctor aside, disdainful of the doctor's hypocritical politeness and humanity. He glanced at the man with contempt, and then punched the unconscious man in the abdomen.

He had always enjoyed practicing boxing. When he threw a punch, the sound was dull and heavy. The man actually suppressed his pain and slowly raised his head, his bloodshot eyes looking at him without any emotion.

Seeing that he had opened his eyes, Li Wenli smiled with satisfaction. "Heh, see? Didn't you want to know how that woman surnamed Xu is doing?"

Li Wenli handed the tablet with the playback imported to the man's eyes. The monitor's playback was very clear. The playback was only one minute long, and the last image was of the woman kneeling in the bathroom, pale and weak, with an injury on her head. She looked really pitiful.

"What did you do to her?!" The person, who was tightly bound to the electric shock device, struggled. Li Wenli saw that his eyes had changed. The person who had been indifferent to his life or death just a moment ago now had furious eyes.

"So fierce." Li Wenli patted his face. The man's blood-red eyes stared at him intently, but Li Wenli was not afraid. "What's the use of being fierce? Dr. Ji, what are you standing there for? Didn't the boss say not to save electricity?"

"Yes, yes." Ji Ci, whose name was called, dared not hesitate any longer and quickly operated the instrument.

The electric shock lasted for a full two minutes.

Li Wenli glanced at the time, but was somewhat dissatisfied. "That's all?"

“This is already the limit of the human body. If we continue, it will be fatal.” Ji Ci carefully spoke as he observed the physical signs of the so-called “experimental subject.”

"This man deserves to die, but not now."

"What...did you do to her?"

“Even after all this, you still care about her quite a bit,” Li Wenli punched the man in the face, causing his head to tilt and crash heavily into the equipment behind him. “Tell me, who exactly is this woman surnamed Xu? I’m not as easily fooled as these medical idiots.”

Ji Ci remained silent after being called an idiot, and his assistants dared not speak out in anger.

"Stop trying to fob me off with your girlfriend's answer. You definitely know who she is. Besides, you've met President Ling's ex-wife before. You know this one isn't her at all."

"What are you saying... I don't understand what you mean." The person slowly turned his face, his eyes were not clear, but the ferocity in his eyes was not diminished at all.

Li Wenli's expression was gloomy. He coldly warned, "Do you think you can protect her by insisting that the woman is the original Miss Xu and that she is President Ling's ex-wife? The more you keep quiet, the more you suffer, and the more she will suffer."

"Don't touch her... Let Ling Zhou in, I know he's here." The man struggled again, this time his gaze fell on the one-way glass in the room where nothing could be seen.

The boss was indeed in the observation room the whole time. But...

Li Wenli kicked the man, shouting, "What right do you have to make demands!"

The kick made a lot of noise, and even Ji Ci couldn't stand it anymore. "Assistant Li, be careful of the equipment he's wearing, it's very expensive..."

The door next to the one-way glass opened, and Ling Zhou walked in. He patted Li Wenli on the shoulder and said, "Be civilized. He is a guest. Don't use violence against him."

“But…” Li Wenli looked indignant.

"You all go out first." Ling Zhou's tone left no room for argument.

"Yes." Li Wenli gestured for Ji Ci and his two assistants to leave, and he was the last to go out, quietly closing the door behind him.

Only Ling Zhou and another prisoner-like person remained in the electrocution room. Ling Zhou dragged over a chair and sat down in front of Lin Xu, appearing very friendly and kind: "Why do you and she both ask me so much about what I did? As for her, just tell me what you know, and I won't make things difficult for you."

"What do you want to hear?" Lin Xu glanced at him and then closed his eyes. The high-frequency electric shocks over the past few hours had left him physically and mentally exhausted and in pain.

"She's not Xu Huaihuai, right?"

"That's her."

"You answered so confidently. Then let me ask you another question. She's not the original Xu Huaihuai, right? Ah, if you don't say anything, then the answer must be yes."

Ling Zhou chuckled, "Why don't you dare answer this question? Are you afraid that I will hurt her if you say it? How could that be? After all, she is still very similar to my ex-wife. Just based on that, I will treat her very well after she becomes my wife."

Lin Xu opened his eyes, which were bloodshot. "You can't force her to do something she doesn't want to do. She hasn't done anything wrong."

He really cares about her.

Ling Zhou was annoyed by this unnecessary concern. He reached out and grabbed Lin Xu's neck tightly, smiling as he watched Lin Xu's face change drastically and the veins on his forehead bulge. "I don't like hearing such things. How can marital intimacy be considered coercion?"

He released his grip before the other person suffocated, calmly capturing the image of the person breathing heavily and near death.

That's all for today. I'm going to see her now.

Ling Zhou brought a doctor to examine the wound on Xu Huaihuai's forehead.

"The wound is healing well. It's best to avoid getting it wet. The stitches should be removed in five days, and it shouldn't leave a noticeable scar." After examining and bandaging Xu Huaihuai's wound, the doctor tactfully left.

Xu Huaihuai sat on the sofa, touching the gauze on her forehead without saying a word.

Ling Zhou sat down next to her, tucked her hair to one side, and studied her delicate and clean face. "Are you worried about scarring?"

Xu Huaihuai slapped his hand away, her expression wary. "Don't you know how this injury came about? What are you pretending for? I just don't understand what you're trying to do. Are you going to keep me locked up forever? How many days can you keep me locked up? I'm not without friends or family. It's impossible for no one to find out. Why do you have to put yourself in jail?"

"You're so considerate of me, I'm really touched." Ling Zhou said, but there was no emotion on his face. "Since you care about me so much, I've prepared a surprise for you too. Look what this is."

Ling Zhou handed her his phone, which was playing a video. The video showed only a person with all four limbs bound, panting heavily in a very disheveled state.

It is Lin Xu.

A taut string seemed to snap. The phone slammed onto the carpet. Xu Huaihuai slapped Ling Zhou hard across the face, her fingers trembling. "What are you doing? Getting revenge on your ex? Getting revenge on me? Then come at me! Why are you picking on him? What does our business have to do with him?"

"Get revenge on your ex?" Ling Zhou pondered these four words. "Don't think so badly of others. Besides, are you even your ex?"

He walked towards her step by step, and she retreated like a frightened bird. Her expression was complex, but mostly fearful.

“There are some things you don’t want to say, and I won’t force you. You’ll figure it out and tell me on your own.” He grabbed her arm, which she couldn’t avoid. “However, if you want your little boyfriend to be more comfortable, you’ll have to be obedient. Now, go lie down on the bed.”

"What do you want to do?" Her lips trembled.

"If you hesitate any longer, he might die." He released her hand, speaking of Lin Xu's life or death in a light tone.

She clenched her fists, looking conflicted and struggling, but still stiffly lay down on the bed.

Ling Zhou opened the medicine box he had brought; he had two injections left for today.

He put on gloves, took out the medicine and syringe, and said, "Roll up the skirt."

She sat up abruptly, jumped out of bed, and tried to hide in the bathroom.

"Think of Lin Xu."

Ling Zhou spoke lightly, and those four short words successfully stopped her from escaping.

“You can hide, but can he?” Ling Zhou said again. He knew her Achilles’ heel very well.

Her face was pale as she stared at the bathroom, which was so close yet she could easily hide inside and lock it, but in the end she just slowly walked back.

"Lie down and roll up your skirt," Ling Zhou repeated.

Her expression was one of humiliation, and her trembling fingers gripped the hem of her skirt, which she rolled up only slightly, as if trying to preserve her last shred of dignity and self-respect.

If she hadn't run away, Ling Zhou would have been willing to protect her pitiful self-respect. But she ran away, and then came back for Lin Xu. It's such an unsettling display of deep affection.

He looked at her fingers, which were turning white from gripping the air, with a half-smile. "Roll them up higher, roll them up on both sides."

Her chest heaved, but she remained silent, rolled up her skirt, and glared at him with hatred.

Without the skirt to cover it, the marks on the side of her legs were easily visible.

There was a brownish residue of iodine, and some bluish pinholes. He wiped the same area again with iodine, saying, "It might sting a little."

The cold liquid was pushed into her body again, and her body convulsed slightly.

"What exactly is it?"

After administering the two vials of medicine, she quickly pressed down on her skirt and asked with a mixture of hatred and disgust.

Ling Zhou put the empty syringe into a medical waste bag and carefully tidied up the medical waste. "You'll feel it gradually. Are you hungry?"

Xu Huaihuai had no appetite at all. She made her request: "I want to see Lin Xu."

"Four injections a day, I'll let you see me after you finish all twenty." Ling Zhou touched her forehead. "The fever has gone down, but you still need to take your medicine. You also can't skip meals."

Xu Huaihuai felt that he was very detached, so she distanced herself from him and asked, "Have you seen a doctor, a psychiatrist or a psychologist?"

"Huh? You think I'm sick?" Ling Zhou seemed to have heard something very funny. "I'm not the one who's sick."

The doorbell rang; it was the housekeeper, who had prepared dinner. Ling Zhou didn't continue the conversation. He brought the food in, saying, "Come and eat. If you don't eat, he won't get any food either." He had become adept at manipulating her by using another person's safety as leverage.

She didn't say anything more, and quietly sat down at the table furthest away from him.

She didn't eat much, only picking at each dish with her chopsticks a few times. Ling Zhou picked up some food for her and gently urged, "Eat more."

She slammed down her chopsticks. "How can I eat with your face in my eyes?"

Ling Zhou's smile faded slightly, but his tone remained gentle, "You'll have to get used to me eventually."

Before she could speak, he added, "We'll sleep together tonight."
