Chapter 39 Fire Baby, Keep It Down
Upon hearing her voice, Chi Yu paused slightly in his cigarette-holding hand, then stubbed it out in the ashtray on the stone table.
He turned to look at her, a lazy smile playing on his lips. "Xin Xiaomian, why are you up so late? Waiting for me?"
A faint smell of smoke still lingered in the yard. Hearing her open the living room door, he raised his hand and waved it to make the smoke dissipate faster.
She had already turned on the living room lights, which made the courtyard even darker. He stood under the tree, his tall figure half-hidden in the shadows, which made his sharp and cold features appear even more angular.
The old scar on his brow was faintly visible.
His injured left hand was directly exposed to the bright light emanating from the living room. From his elbow down, crimson blood flowed down his entire forearm, gathering at the distinct knuckles, teetering on the verge of falling.
This injury is much more serious than the last one.
Xin Mian's brow twitched, and she hurriedly ran over, clutching a tissue she had grabbed haphazardly, to cover his wound.
"Are you stupid? Why don't you treat the wound first?"
Upon hearing this, Chi Yu's strong eyebrows drooped slightly, his shoulders and back, which had been leaning against the tree trunk, relaxed, and he consciously moved closer to her.
His brows furrowed slightly, but he remained silent.
Xin Mian glanced at him, unable to bring herself to speak harshly any further. She looked him up and down, her tone softening, "Are you injured anywhere else?"
He slowly shook his head, his dark eyes showing no trace of the vulnerability of someone who was "injured," staring intently at her. "No more, just here."
The tissue covering the wound was quickly soaked with blood, and the dampness spread through the tissue to her palm.
She asked anxiously, "Is there a first-aid kit in the living room? Or do I need to go upstairs to get it?"
"There's some in the living room."
His gaze lingered on her, and when she looked at him with concern, he naturally feigned weakness, saying, "It hurts a little."
Xinmian carefully supported his arm and led him into the living room to sit down.
I took out more tissues, wet them with warm water, and used them to wipe the bloodstains off his arm little by little.
The chubby orange cat was woken up from its nap. It slowly walked over with its tail raised, tilted its head to look at Chi Yu, and then took several steps back warily when it smelled the blood.
Then it quickly darted to Xinmian's side and patted her with its paw as a gesture.
[Meow~]
He's bleeding, run!
Xinmian's attention was entirely on Chi Yu, and she responded to the fat orange cat by lightly rubbing its body with her arm.
The wound gradually became visible, and it was indeed much more serious than the last one.
From elbow to forearm, there was a long cut, as if it had been slashed from top to bottom by shards of glass or some sharp object; it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the skin was torn open.
The first-aid kit was placed under the coffee table. After cleaning up the bloodstains, she took out iodine swabs and gauze from it.
Even sitting down, the man was still very tall. He blocked most of the light from the living room ceiling, so Xinmian couldn't see the wound and told him to lean back.
Chi Yu was very obedient, his long legs wide open, his shoulders and back relaxed as he leaned against the back of the sofa. He watched her anxiously and earnestly stare at his wound, and a dark, burning light slowly gathered in his eyes.
The iodine stung her skin a little, but Chi Yu seemed not to feel it, just lowering her eyes with an inscrutable expression.
This time, the wound can't be treated with just a band-aid.
Xinmian wrapped gauze around his forearm again and again to make sure all the wounds were covered before she felt a little relieved.
The two were sitting very close, her knees touching his, and a slight warmth from her body was being transferred between them.
However, Xin Mian had no time to pay attention to these ambiguous and romantic feelings, and looked up at him very seriously.
"Chi Yu, you can't fight anymore."
Last time he said he got injured in an alley, she didn't believe him at all.
This time, with such a long gash, it's even less likely to be an accident.
Chi Yu looked at her lazily, seemingly not particularly interested in the fight. "Why?"
Xin Mian stared in astonishment, "Even a three-year-old knows that fighting is bad."
"But some people just deserve to be hit."
Communicating politely won't get you the desired result.
"But you'll get hurt. Grandma will be so worried if she finds out."
He suddenly straightened up and moved closer, his cool breath washing over me. "And you?"
After asking the question, he calmly gazed at her and gave his answer directly.
"You're worried about me too."
He reached out, his rough fingertips touching her slightly furrowed brow, gently pressing to smooth it out.
She repeated herself, "Xin Xiaomian, you're worried about me."
Xin Mian's heart skipped a beat.
Caught off guard by his actions, the distance between them suddenly closed, until their noses were almost touching.
She instinctively took a step back, but he grabbed her waist and pulled her back.
"Chi Yu!"
"I'm talking to you about something important."
She thought for a moment and said tactfully, "Don't do anything bad."
He opened an internet cafe, but from Qin Shengtian, Yang Chengjing, and Liu Haoyuan's words, she vaguely guessed that he was more than just an internet cafe owner.
But what is his real profession?
She didn't know.
But whenever he came home with injuries, she would always feel a vague worry, fearing that he was doing something dangerous or bad.
As she spoke, her lips moved, revealing the soft flesh of her cheeks and two dimples that appeared and disappeared.
Chi Yu's hands were itching to touch it, so he moved closer in that position, pressed his fingertips against it, and made a deep indentation.
She suddenly went silent, as if the pause button had been pressed.
Chi Yu smiled, a slight curve to her lips. "Okay."
"If you say we won't fight, then we won't fight."
He agreed, but Xinmian quickly realized what was going on.
This statement is a tacit admission that the injuries sustained on both occasions were indeed due to fighting.
She pursed her lips, afraid he might change his mind, "Really not going to fight?"
"You don't believe me?"
"no..."
She was about to wave her hand when Chi Yu preemptively said, "Then you'll supervise me."
"They send me messages every morning, afternoon, and evening to keep an eye on me."
"Or, you could follow me around every day, so I won't have time to fight."
Xinmian: ......
You've got quite the plan.
"I have to go to class..."
She retorted in a low voice.
“That’s true,” Chi Yu nodded seriously, “Then let’s do the opposite, I’ll follow you around every day.”
"We will stay by your side every step of the way."
"That's... there's really no need for that."
“Then it’s settled,” Chi Yu suddenly pressed down on the back of her neck and pulled her close, their breaths mingling.
He lowered his head and gave her a deep kiss on the lips.
“You have to send me messages every morning, noon, and evening.”
Xinmian: !!!
Who said that?!
Her instinct was to push his hand away, but instead she pressed her hand against his bandaged forearm. The man let out a low groan, and she immediately released her grip, saying, "I'm sorry..."
Did I touch you?
Chi Yu smiled silently, and taking advantage of her soft heart towards him, he pulled her into his arms.
But just as she made a move, a clear "gurgle~" sounded from the living room.
Xin Mian's face turned bright red, and she quickly covered her stomach, laughing awkwardly.
It was only then that she remembered that she had originally gone downstairs to find something to eat.
Chi Yu stared at her with a half-smile, "Hungry?"
She nodded awkwardly, wishing she could dig a hole in the ground and bury herself inside.
Chi Yu stood up, walked towards the kitchen, and asked, "Tomato and egg noodles or shredded pork and egg noodles?"
Xin Mian followed him into the kitchen, saying, "Your hand is still injured, don't do anything."
As she spoke, she walked to the refrigerator and was about to open the freezer compartment to take out the buns when a large, well-defined hand reached out and slammed the freezer door shut.
"Tomato and egg noodles, please," he said, standing beside her and looking down at her. "You like tomatoes."
Xinmian: ......
All she could ask was, "And you? Have you had dinner?"
The man raised his eyebrows slightly, his dark eyes gleaming with obvious pleasure. "You care about me."
"Chi Yu!" she said, somewhat embarrassed.
Chi Yu slightly turned his body, subtly trapping her in the small space between himself and the refrigerator. He leaned down slightly, his tall, straight nose gently brushing against her cheek, very affectionately, "Baby, keep your voice down."
"Or do you want Grandma to see you kissing later?"
Aaaaaah!
Xin Mian's cheeks instantly turned bright red, "Don't say things like that..."
Flirting.
Chi Yu stared at her, his dark eyes shining brightly in the bright white light of the kitchen.
Xinmian could even tell from his expression that he genuinely wanted to kiss her.
She felt a chill run down her spine, turned her head away awkwardly, and said, "Weren't you going to cook noodles?"
I'm hungry...
Chi Yu smiled slowly, his large hand gently stroking her hair before sliding down her slender neck, putting his arm around her shoulder and pulling her into his embrace. With his other hand, he opened the refrigerator door and took out tomatoes and eggs.
Xin Mian had tasted his cooking before, and now, seeing him methodically boiling water to blanch tomatoes and heating oil in a pan, she looked around and asked, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
He didn't answer, but simply pulled her hand and made her stand behind him, instructing her, "Stay away, don't get splashed with oil."
Xinmian obediently hid behind him, peeking out with her big eyes to see him grab a large handful of noodles.
She said softly, "I can't eat that much..."
"I'll eat what I can't finish."
His tone was very natural when he answered.
The noodles were cooked quickly; the red and yellow tomato and egg noodles looked delicious, steaming hot and smelling wonderful.
Xinmian was really hungry, and her appetite was whetted.
I sat at the table and ate my noodles obediently.
But Chi Yu cooked way too much; she could only eat half a bowl before she couldn't finish.
At first, I would pick up a large mouthful of noodles, but later I would only pick up a few strands of noodles with each chopstick.
Chi Yu quickly noticed and took her chopsticks and bowl. "Can't you eat anymore?"
"Then I'll eat it."
"Why..."
Xinmian instinctively wanted to stop it, feeling that the two of them sharing a bowl of noodles with the same pair of chopsticks was an even more intimate act than the kiss they had shared a few days ago when hormones were running high.
Like a real couple.
Chi Yu stared at her and smiled, his eyes brimming with a nonchalant and unrestrained spirit. "Isn't it normal for me to eat your leftovers?"
It's perfectly normal for a boyfriend to eat what his girlfriend leaves behind.
Xinmian remained silent, but felt too embarrassed to leave directly.
He cooked the noodles, so she should at least wash the dishes.
However, even after finishing the bowl of noodles, Chi Yu didn't let her lift a finger. He finished eating, wiped the table, and then put the bowl and chopsticks in the sink, along with the pot from which he had cooked the noodles.
Xinmian tried to reach out, but he pressed her hand back down.
"do what?"
"...Wash the dishes."
She looked up at him, feeling embarrassed that he had to do all the housework by himself.
Those clear, bright black and white eyes were sparkling and clear.
very beautiful.
Chi Yu's Adam's apple bobbed. "You don't need to wash it."
Xin Mian pursed her lips and remained silent.
He paused for a few seconds, then said, "If you feel embarrassed, come with me somewhere next week."
She asked curiously, "Where are we going?"
He deliberately kept everyone in suspense, saying, "You'll find out when you get there."
