Chapter 95 Ignition - She's so soft everywhere.
When Xinmian woke up, an hour had already passed.
It was 3 a.m. in a VIP ward at Yuncheng Hospital.
Her fingertips, which were resting on the blanket, twitched. Chi Yu, who had just returned from outside, immediately strode over, took her hand, and whispered, "Baby, are you awake?"
"How are you? Is there anything else that hurts?"
Xin Mian's eyes were red and swollen from crying. During the time she was unconscious, Chi Yu applied ice packs to her eyes and just went out to change the ice packs.
Upon hearing his voice, Xinmian rolled her eyes in a daze.
She had just woken up and was still a little dazed.
However, my eyelids felt cool and there was no discomfort from swelling.
She slowly looked at the man beside the bed. He was wearing a windbreaker, zipped up to the top, with the metal zipper pull resting against his chin, making him look sharp and cold.
My fingertips were a little cold from holding the ice pack for a long time to cool her down, and the sensation was obvious when I touched them.
But the way he looked at her was both intense and tender; she could feel the warmth in his dark eyes.
It turns out that what I thought was a hallucination before I fainted was not a hallucination at all.
He really did appear beside her.
Right now, truly.
“Chi Yu…”
When he opened his mouth, his voice was hoarse.
Her eyes stung, and tears welled up, but she didn't let them fall.
"I'm here, I'm here."
Chi Yu sat on the edge of the bed, hugged her tenderly, and gently stroked the back of her head with his palm, silently comforting her.
With him there, Xinmian suddenly felt much more at ease, and the tears that had been welling up in her eyes ultimately did not fall.
She sniffed. "How did you know I was here?"
The text message I sent him just before boarding the plane clearly didn't contain any specific information.
Just one sentence—
My dad was in a car accident, so I'm going back to Yuncheng.
"I asked friends for help and went to hospitals in the city one by one."
Chi Yu had been at the juvenile justice department in Ancheng all day. When he saw the text message, he immediately called Xin Mian, but he couldn't get through. Her flight should have already taken off by then.
He was in the city, so he immediately went to the airport and bought a ticket for the next available flight to Yuncheng.
Not wanting to waste those two hours on the plane, he first asked a friend to find a hospital in Yuncheng city.
He only knew Zhang Jiandong's name and had no other information. Even with the help of his friends, he could only search one company at a time.
Fortunately, this was a large hospital, and they found it quickly without spending too much time.
Chi Yu drove over immediately after getting off the plane. As soon as the elevator doors opened, he saw Xin Mian collapsed in the corridor, exhausted.
My heart suddenly clenched, and the suffocating pain made it hard to breathe.
He ran towards her with all his might, afraid that she would disappear in the next second.
“Chi Yu…”
The bitterness and grievance in his heart surged up completely the moment he opened his mouth.
Xinmian bit her lip and cried so hard that her shoulders trembled, and tears streamed down her face, soaking her clothes.
"I never thought he would die..."
"I don't have a mom and dad anymore..."
Chi Yu hugged the person tightly and closed his eyes.
He had never seen her cry so bitterly, not even when she told him how unfair Zhang Jiandong had been to her and how disappointed she had been.
Her tears, like the sharpest icicles and the hottest lava, slammed into his chest, causing a searing pain that made it hard for him to breathe.
He comforted her again and again until she cried herself to sleep and collapsed completely on the bed.
The ward was very quiet. Chi Yu heard her sobbing softly, so he lifted her chin and looked at her carefully.
She cried for so long that her eyelids, which had just gone down, started to swell up again.
Fortunately, the ice packs were in an ice bucket and didn't melt.
He leaned against the headboard, pulled her into his arms, and gently placed an ice pack on her eyes.
The icy touch sent a shiver down Xinmian's spine, and she instinctively gripped his hand tightly.
The moment she made a move, the man's long arms wrapped around her.
He completely drew her into his protective circle.
"I'll stay here and not go anywhere."
She closed her eyes and applied a cold compress, so she couldn't see anything.
The strong, rhythmic heartbeat emanating from her broad chest seemed to possess a magical quality, gradually calming her emotions.
After crying, venting, and recovering from the most devastating moment, Xinmian finally felt her body protesting.
She was very tired and her throat was very dry.
Just as I was about to say I wanted some water, something pressed against my lips.
It's a straw.
Chi Yu whispered, "Open your mouth."
She obediently listened and drank the water from his hand.
After drinking the water, her throat felt much better, and she asked, "Do you have friends in Yuncheng?"
"Hmm," he put the cup down, adjusted his position, hugged her tighter, and covered her with the blanket. "I'll introduce you when I have time."
"good..."
Xin Mian thought of what he had just said, "I should thank him properly."
No sooner had he finished speaking than there was a knock on the door of the ward.
A young male voice came from behind the door, "Mr. Chi, everything has been arranged. President Zhou was worried about disturbing you, so he didn't call you."
"Okay, thank you."
"Tell him you'll treat him to dinner next time."
"OK."
After saying that, the figure outside the door left.
"Mr. Zhou?"
Xinmian was a little curious.
"Yes, Zhou Jinyu of Baichuan."
As a native of Yuncheng, Xinmian naturally knew about the famous Baichuan Group.
What surprised her even more was, "...You know him?"
That person is at the very top of the entire Yuncheng pyramid.
Could it be...?
What hidden identity did Chi Yu have that he didn't tell her?
Chi Yu looked down at her and gently pinched her cheek. "Don't overthink it."
“My father does own a company, but I know Zhou Jinyu because I am in charge of their group’s information security technology.”
"Once things are settled here, I'll tell you about my father."
Xin Mian remembered that he had said before that he and his father did not have a good relationship.
Thinking of herself, she realized that Chi Yu might also have her own difficulties. She didn't press for details, but simply nodded and said, "Okay."
The interruption by Zhou Jinyu's assistant completely dispelled her distress.
Xin Mian bit her lip and asked softly, "My father... his remains..."
"Put it in the hospital morgue first, and then transfer it to the funeral home after the formalities are completed."
"good."
The ice in the ice pack gradually melted, and water droplets slid down from the corners of her eyes, which he gently wiped away.
Chi Yu removed the ice pack, lifted her chin to examine her closely, and only felt slightly relieved after confirming that the swelling in her eyes had subsided somewhat.
"It's not dawn yet, let's sleep a little longer."
Feeling a cool sensation around her eyes, Xin Mian opened them, reached out and hugged him, burying her head in his chest, and said in a muffled voice, "You sleep too."
He followed her from Ancheng, running around taking care of everything, and hasn't slept a wink since.
Around 4 a.m., the lights in the ward were finally turned off.
In the quiet hospital bed, neither of them spoke, and the sound of each other's breathing could be heard.
Chi Yu held her in his arms, his palms stroking her back gently, like soothing a child.
After a few minutes of silence, she whispered, "He said he was sorry to me, but until his death... the scales in his heart never tipped in my favor, not even a little."
People say it's hard to keep a bowl of water level; it might spill, leak, or tip over.
However, Xinmian never saw the truth in Zhang Jiandong's heart, because from beginning to end, his scales were always on Ge Qiuling and Zhang Chenyi's side.
Because her mother had left her a house and money, he felt it was only natural for him to wrong and sacrifice her.
Throughout his life, it never changed.
"Oh..."
Xin Mian chuckled softly, without any extra emotion, as if she were just exhaling a breath of stale air.
All the heaviness will pass; when a person dies, it's like a lamp going out. From now on, she will no longer constantly think about his biases, injustices, and debts.
"Baby."
In the dim light, Chi Yu found her lips and gently placed a kiss on them.
"You are the best, and you deserve all the best things in the world."
"There are many people who love you, now and in the future."
"Yes, I know..."
Their lips met, he parted her teeth, took her tongue into his mouth, and gently kissed it.
The gentle, lingering force made it hard for her to refuse.
Xinmian was almost drowning in his gentle advances, her arms unconsciously wrapping around his shoulders.
The bedding rustled softly as the girl's slender body was pressed completely into the blankets. The man's tall, broad frame enveloped her, his arms tightening around her, pressing her close to him.
The atmosphere was ambiguous yet warm, and even the familiar sound of kissing seemed to carry a touch of tenderness.
Even after the kiss ended, both of them were breathing heavily.
Xin Mian's cheeks were flushed. Her sweater had been lifted up by him at some point, exposing her fair and slender waist to his palm. Their skin touched without any obstruction, and her breath was unsteady.
His hands seem to have a GPS device; now, every time we kiss, they automatically find the softest spot.
Xin Mian felt a tightness in her chest and pulled his hand away. "...This is the hospital."
"Yes, I know."
Chi Yu remained on top of her, his long fingers holding her chin, pecking at her lips again and again, as if he hadn't had enough.
His chest heaved violently, and he was breathing heavily and rapidly.
She could even feel the bulging veins in his neck and the movement of his Adam's apple.
"I don't plan to do anything."
He kissed her lips again, then got out of bed. "I'm going to take a shower."
After saying that, he went straight into the restroom.
Bright light from the bathroom shone through the frosted glass of the door. Xinmian used this light to straighten her clothes and then lay back down in bed.
She had originally planned to wait for Chi Yu to come out before sleeping together, but she didn't expect that he still hadn't come out after waiting for more than twenty minutes.
She had gone through so much today, she couldn't take it anymore, and her eyelids gradually closed.
Around 5 a.m., when Chi Yu came out of the bathroom, all he could hear was her soft, even breathing.
He tiptoed onto the bed and pulled the soft, warm body of the girl inside the blankets into his arms.
She was fast asleep, but when she felt his embrace, she instinctively snuggled into his arms, as if it had become a muscle memory and a psychological memory.
In the dim light, Chi Yu looked down at her, his gaze reluctant to leave her.
Beautiful skin, beautiful eyelashes, a beautiful nose, beautiful dimples, and beautiful lips...
She's beautiful in every way, and everything about her is so soft and fluffy.
He held her in his arms like a little figurine.
She was so thin, so gentle, and so good-tempered. He couldn't imagine how much willpower she must have had to get through all those difficulties she faced in the past.
A wave of heartache washed over Chi Yu once again, as if he were being pricked by countless needles.
In the quiet, dim night, he sighed for what seemed like the umpteenth time...
"Baby, if only I had met you sooner."
