Fu Ling was kicking the house under the tree by the door with Xiao Hong next door when she saw Fu Ming waving at her, so she ran back.
"Uncle, what's wrong?"
Fu Ming smiled mysteriously, looking at his niece who was covered in sweat.
"Lingling, your uncle has some money today. How about I treat you to an ice pop at the convenience store?"
Fu Ling's eyes lit up. She also had pocket money, but Fu Wan wouldn't allow her to eat too much ice.
So I can only go to the small shop once a week.
But it was different when her uncle invited her to eat; it wasn't something she insisted on eating.
However, looking at Xiao Hong waiting for her under the tree, Fu Ling hesitated.
I can't just eat it myself and let my best friend watch!
She's young but shrewd, and her ideas come to her quickly.
"Uncle, can you give Xiaohong one too? I'll treat you to one later!"
Xiao Hong shared her eggs with her this morning, and she also wanted to take Xiao Hong out for popsicles!
An ice pop costs only five cents, and Fu Ming has a dollar in his hand, which is enough to buy twenty five-cent ice pops!
"OK!"
With a wave of his hand, Fu Ming led the two children toward the small shop at the village entrance.
The small shop is run by the village chief's daughter-in-law. It's called a small shop, but it's actually just a small room filled with snacks and daily necessities.
Sometimes, when villagers want to buy cigarettes or alcohol but are too lazy to go to town, they will buy them at the small shops for a few cents more.
As for the children, they spend all their pocket money here.
Fu Ling had been to the small shop a few times before, so she walked in with ease and smiled at the old woman sitting to the side.
"Grandma, I've come to buy popsicles!"
Today, the village chief's daughter-in-law's family has some business to attend to, so the person here to mind the shop is her mother-in-law, Liu San Niang, the village chief's wife.
"Hey, isn't this Ah Ming? It's rare to see you shopping here!"
Fu Ming was surprised to find that it was Liu San Niang guarding the place, and scratched his head awkwardly.
"Auntie, I'd like to buy some popsicles."
Liu Sanniang lifted the tattered quilt covering the popsicle box and opened it.
"Today we have milk flavor, and also mung bean and red bean flavors. What do you want?"
How much is one?
Fu Ling clung to the side of the box; it was cool and comfortable inside.
"Milk ones cost one cent each, while red bean and mung bean ones cost five cents each."
Fu Ming thought about it and decided that it would be better for children to drink more milk. He had heard Fu Wan mention this several times.
He gritted his teeth and said, "Take two milk ones and one mung bean one."
He's satisfied now, the two kids can just drink milk!
"Thank you, Uncle! Long live Uncle!"
Fu Ling cheered and waited for Liu San Niang to get her an ice pop.
Xiao Hong was overjoyed that her Uncle Lingling would treat her to milk popsicles.
"Thank you, Uncle Lingling! Long live Uncle!"
Fu Ming couldn't hide his smile either. After Liu San Niang gave him the change, she took out three popsicles.
Fu Ming thanked her and then led the children home.
Liu Sanniang watched the backs of the one adult and two children, still muttering to herself.
"Amin from Old Master Fu's family has really recovered from his leg injury, and their life is thriving now!"
It's a pity she doesn't have a boyfriend yet. If she had a relative who married into the Fu family, she would be living a life of luxury.
It's the same Xu Panlan from the next village; she has no taste.
She was a distant relative of her husband, and I heard that she was eventually married off by her family to a wealthy old widower.
I ran into him at the dock last time; he had stripes all over his hands. I wonder if he was beaten by a man.
Liu Sanniang sighed. Everyone has their own destiny. She was just wasting her time. Instead of worrying about these things, she should do more work herself.
Whether it was Liu San Niang's nagging or not, Fu Ming and his two children had just passed by the main road in the village when they ran into Xu Panlan, who was hurrying by with a basket in her hand.
"Brother Amin?"
Upon hearing this timid voice, Fu Ming turned around, puzzled.
I thought for a long time but still couldn't remember who this was.
There was no other way. Although Xu Panlan's family had a hard life before she got married, at least they had food to eat and she wouldn't be beaten.
Now that she's married, her husband beats her when he's drunk from time to time. He even beat her until she miscarried when she was less than a month pregnant.
"I am Xu Panlan!"
Fu Ming then remembered who this person was, and frowned upon seeing her appearance. "Why do you look like this?"
Xu Panlan looked somber. She hadn't stopped her mother from breaking off the engagement when she came to the Fu family, since she knew that if Fu Ming couldn't move his legs, she would only suffer if she married him.
I might not even look as good as I did when I married the lame Fu Ming.
Moreover, she had clearly seen that Fu Ming walked steadily without any sign of limping.
"I'm fine, I just wanted to say hello."
After saying that, Xu Panlan left in a hurry. Fu Ling took a few steps and saw that Fu Ming had not followed, so she ran back to pull him.
"Uncle, hurry up and leave, your popsicle has melted!"
Fu Ming only then realized that the popsicle in his hand had melted all over his hand, and immediately groaned in pain.
"Ouch, my popsicle!"
Fu Ling and Xiao Hong laughed like two little lunatics, and Fu Ming quickly ran home to wash his hands.
As for Xu Panlan, who couldn't help but look back at Fu Ming after walking a few steps, she could only see a few figures rushing home.
Fu Wan was busy in the kitchen when she saw Fu Ling run in holding a small piece of popsicle.
"Mom, have an ice pop!"
Fu Wan leaned over and took a bite. The popsicle had a strong milky flavor and was sweet. No wonder Fu Ling said she wanted to eat popsicles every day.
However, I had clearly put the child's allowance away, afraid that she would get an upset stomach if she ate too much.
How do you have money to buy popsicles?
Without hesitation, Fu Ling betrayed Fu Ming, saying, "My uncle treated me to this!"
Well, Fu Wan didn't expect that her own brother couldn't keep any money in his pocket either. He took a dollar and then asked his daughter to go out and buy popsicles.
"Then you can't eat it tomorrow, or you'll get an upset stomach and I'll have to take you to the clinic again."
Fu Ling pouted, but Fu Wan coaxed her back in the next second.
"Mom saved some baby octopuses today, I'll make you something delicious later!"
Before weighing the goods today, there were a few small octopuses. Fu Wan took them out separately to stir-fry a bowl of them. In the morning, she saw a lot of bright red persimmons in the backyard.
It reminded me of making takoyaki, a snack that was popular all over the country in my past life.
She can make her own tomato sauce, but she couldn't find a substitute for the tools used to make takoyaki (small meatballs) after searching for a long time.
However, she eventually came up with a solution: heating it directly with a soup spoon, and gave it a try.
While Fu Wan was thinking about how to cook delicious food, Old Li, standing by the dock, felt like he had encountered a ghost in broad daylight.
It was already afternoon, and there were only a few people on the dock, just a row of boats.
Old Li was in charge of guarding the boat. He had just come over from home after lunch when he heard something hitting the boat with loud bangs.
When he poked his head out, the sea was calm again, and even the waves crashing onto the shore made little noise.
This is truly unbelievable!
