Fu Laoda was so distressed by his daughter's exhausted appearance that he didn't even notice the net that Fu Liang had helped drag up beside her.
Hearing Fu Wan say this, Boss Fu finally began to examine the net full of things.
When the flashlight shone over, Boss Fu saw what it was and jumped up, almost dropping the flashlight in his hand.
"Ah Wan, this...this...this isn't...!"
Fu Wan nodded, "Father, you are more knowledgeable than me. I wasn't sure, but I wanted to take a gamble, so I just brought some up."
Boss Fu squatted down again, took the flashlight and examined it closely, his joy was impossible to hide.
"Yes, yes, look at the shape of this thing, it must be it!"
"Everyone says our shipping business is good, and today I truly believe it! Tomorrow, I'm going with your mother and the others to burn incense at the Mazu Temple!"
Fu Liang was getting increasingly anxious. What could be more frustrating than standing there completely unable to understand what these two were saying?!
Ah Wan was too tired to talk, but why did her uncle keep saying only half of what he meant? It was so frustrating!
"Uncle, Wan, what's this?"
He looked at the big, black and white lump and thought it was just some stones, not some rare fish!
Fu Wan glanced at Fu Liang and then realized that Fu Liang hadn't figured out what the thing was yet.
She had calmed down by now, and with Boss Fu's affirmation, she was in a much better mood.
She teased Fu Liang in a lighthearted manner, saying, "Brother Liang, actually, to put it simply, this thing is a kind of whale excrement."
Fu Liang's face immediately showed a look of utter disbelief, as if to say, "Are you guys still half asleep?"
You're so happy about bringing this excrement up!
But he wasn't stupid. Ah Wan's shipping business had always been good, and Boss Fu was experienced and knowledgeable. Since they were both so happy, even if this net contained shit, it would still be a good thing!
Sure enough, Fu Wan revealed the unusual nature of this large lump of stuff in the next second: "Strictly speaking, it also has another name, called ambergris."
"My goodness!"
Fu Liang had originally wanted to pinch a piece to see how it differed from a stone, but Fu Wan's words were like a thunderclap, making him quickly withdraw his hand as if he had been burned.
Ambergris!
Although he had never seen one before, he was still educated enough to know that it was associated with dragons; how could it be anything ordinary?!
That's the dragon that Chinese people have loved the most since ancient times!
Fu Liang was also unsettled. He squatted down by the net and looked at the unusual stones with Boss Fu. Strangely enough, what looked ordinary turned out to be ambergris, a substance he had only heard of but never seen before.
Thinking of this, Fu Liang's admiration for Fu Wan reached a new level. It has to be A-Wan. If he saw this thing in the sea, he would definitely not even glance at it and would just leave.
"Ah Wan, how much can this thing sell for?"
Fu Liang couldn't help but ask, but Fu Wan shook her head as she leaned against the side of the boat.
"I've never sold this before, but I know it's quite expensive. I'll ask Uncle Feng, who collects pearls, when I go to the county town."
Seeing that she had her own ideas, Boss Fu stopped saying anything more.
He only instructed, "When you take this back, don't let outsiders see it. Don't tell anyone except your family."
These words weren't just spoken to Fu Wan; even Fu Liang felt the death stare from Boss Fu.
Fu Liang felt a chill run down his spine from Fu Laoda's gaze, and he nodded hastily, not forgetting to raise a few fingers to swear.
"Uncle, don't worry, I'll keep this to myself when I get back, and I won't even say a word about it to my mother!"
Boss Fu nodded in satisfaction, then instructed Fu Wan, "Take this back and keep it safe. You can do whatever you want with it. Keep the money from the sale."
Don't tell your mother and brother about this. The more people know, the more likely things will go wrong.
Fu Wan was amused by Fu Laoda's nervous appearance, but she agreed anyway.
"Okay, I'll do whatever Dad says."
"Just listen to me, quick, quick, put this thing away."
Boss Fu went to the cabin and found a cloth bag. He carefully piled the ambergris on it, as it was still wet because it had been fished out of the sea.
Fu Laoda was worried that the moisture wouldn't evaporate and the thing would get moldy, so he simply discussed it with Fu Wan and put the thing, along with the cloth bag underneath, into the cabin's ventilation opening.
After finishing his work, Boss Fu wiped the sweat from his forehead and sat down on the deck to rest.
"Ah Wan, if we can't catch the moonfish, let's just go back!"
Fu Laoda was restless, thinking about the dozen or so kilograms of ambergris he still had on his boat.
Fu Wan shook her head. "I haven't even been to the deep sea yet. I ran into a few sperm whales and took a stroll around their lair."
"Let me rest for a while and then I'll go down and check again. If it's not there, we'll go back."
Fu Liang seemed quite interested. "Awan, you even saw a sperm whale? I've never seen one before. Does it look like an orca?"
"This is nothing like it. Sperm whales have big heads and long bodies. They are not as lively as killer whales, but they are still quite quirky."
Fu Wan said with some regret, "I caught a grouper weighing more than ten pounds in the sea, but it was spotted by that little sperm whale, so I had to feed it to it."
"What?! A spotted rat weighing over ten pounds!"
Fu Liang exclaimed in surprise, and even Boss Fu, who had been listening attentively, sat up straight, his face full of regret.
"A rat-spotted mouse weighing over ten pounds, how much would that sell for!"
"What a pity, what a real pity."
Fu Liang kept repeating, "That's a rat grouper that's even more expensive than the East Star Grouper! A while ago, one that weighed two or three pounds sold for more than ten yuan!"
Boss Fu waved his hand, "Forget it, didn't Awan also pick up so much sperm whale... so much ambergris? It can be considered that she paid for it."
Fu Wan agreed, "That makes sense."
There is always a trade-off between gain and loss. This is an eternal truth.
"By the way, how's your harvest going?"
Boss Fu pointed to the bucket next to him and coughed awkwardly.
"I only caught a few sea bass and snapper, nothing big."
Strangely enough, he couldn't catch any big fish when Awan wasn't on the boat.
Fu Liang fared even worse; the sea bass he caught were smaller than those of Boss Fu.
However, his luck had never been very good, and he relied entirely on Fu Wan and Boss Fu to carry him, so he wasn't too upset.
After all, he'd gotten used to bad luck over time.
Fu Wan didn't mind and simply offered her suggestion:
"Dad, let's sail the boat further to the waters behind the island. It's closer to the deep sea there. You can try it out there, and I'll go down there to see if I can find the moonfish."
