As an experienced hunter, Ye Jianguo was naturally skilled at slaughtering pigs.
Fu Ming and Ye Lin were in charge of assisting, and Ye Zhuzi and Ye Shengli, who had just come to help, also stayed, standing in the yard even more excited than Ye Jianguo, who was holding a knife.
When Ye Zhenxing heard that there was a wild boar in the house, he rushed into the yard with his sisters and a few friends.
The children weren't scared at all, laughing and watching Ye Jianguo and the others butcher the wild boar and cut it into pieces of meat of various sizes.
"Ah Wan, I have something to tell you."
Fu Wan was standing by the well washing chestnuts when someone suddenly pulled her aside.
She turned her head and saw Ye Jun, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.
However, Ye Jun was clearly not doing well after the family split. He was unshaven and visibly thinner.
Thinking about this guy's recent antics, Fu Wan didn't want to pay him any attention, but seeing Ye Jun's dejected appearance, and considering he was her cousin whom she had grown up with, she couldn't bear to leave him.
Not to mention that Li Chunhua originally had her eyebrows raised and wanted to kick him out, but seeing his apologetic smile, she couldn't bring herself to do it.
"What's up?"
Without hesitation, Ye Jun replied, "Could I also go out to sea to fish with you?"
Fu Wanle smiled. She had previously heard Ye Lin mention that Ye Jun also wanted to go to sea.
"Cousin, you can certainly go out to sea to fish if you want."
"But we don't lack boatmen on our boat right now."
As soon as he finished speaking, Ye Jun's smile vanished instantly.
"Ah Wan, are you playing me?"
Fu Wan shook her head. "I'm not kidding you. We really don't need any more people on our boat, but if you really want to go, you can ask at the dock."
“Our family isn’t the only one in the village that has a boat to go out to sea, and Fujia Village isn’t the only one by the sea.”
Ye Jun had found out how much an ordinary boatman earned in a month; even if he ate his fill, it would only be around twenty-something yuan a month.
He still had to work from dawn till dusk at sea, doing hard labor. It wasn't that he couldn't endure hardship, but he was also envious of Ye Lin's previous income.
"Ah Wan, do you look down on me, your cousin?"
Despite being subjected to such a heavy burden, Fu Wan remained fearless.
"Brother Jun, how can I possibly respect you?"
"Do you think it's respectable that you've ruined your family, or that you've forced your own brother and parents to build houses elsewhere, or that you don't even support your own daughter and are only thinking about how to get money from your parents?"
Ye Jun blushed as he was bombarded with a series of questions from Fu Wan. Li Chunhua, who was washing chestnuts nearby, turned away to wipe her tears when she heard Fu Wan's words.
"I...I didn't."
“You’re nothing special, Brother Jun. You’ve never been as hardworking as Brother Lin since you were little. I understand that your family is under a lot of financial pressure and you want to earn more money to support your family.”
But earning a living requires hard work, not scheming to take advantage of your family. Look at my uncle and aunt, how many more gray hairs do they have?
Ye Jun hadn't expected his cousin to be so sharp-tongued, and after a long silence, his voice choked with emotion.
"Make money? I want to make money too! I went to work on the dam every single day before. How can I make money when I'm toiling in the fields? You all favor the eldest brother, no one cares about my life or death!"
Seeing his expression, Fu Wan shook her head and sighed, "If you're going to keep getting stuck on this, then there's nothing more to say. You only see Ye Lin making money, but you don't see how hard he works. If your uncle and aunt didn't take care of you, would they have helped you get married and raise your children?"
Ye Jun was still unwilling to give up, "Really, you can't let me go out to sea to fish with you?"
Fu Wan refused, saying, "We haven't been out to sea lately. Going out to sea isn't as simple as you think. When we go out to sea, we often stay for a whole day and night. We not only have to pull the fishing nets but also sort the fish. We might even encounter pirates."
"What?! Pirates?!"
Hearing this, Li Chunhua, who was wiping away tears, forgot all about being sad.
"Didn't Brother Lin tell you that we encountered pirates on our last voyage? If we hadn't been lucky enough to run into the soldiers, we probably would have had our fish stolen and been left to fend for ourselves at sea."
Ye Lin had never mentioned this at home, and upon hearing this, Ye Jun began to have second thoughts.
"Then...then why are there pirates?"
Fu Wan scoffed, "People die for money, birds die for food. There are risks in everything you do. Brother Jun, if you think you can make a lot of money by going to sea without taking any risks, you're wrong."
Ye Jun hadn't expected this. He always saw Ye Lin as energetic and never tired or scared.
He hung his head, his fingers gripping his hair tightly.
“I had no choice. Your sister-in-law is definitely having a boy this time. He’s my son, and I just wanted to earn more money.”
He didn't know what he had done wrong, which made his parents, older brother and sister-in-law ignore him, and even his daughter Ye Xiaofeng would turn away every time she saw him.
Upon hearing this, Fu Wan realized that this was yet another person with a strong desire to inherit the throne.
"So you've been making a scene for so long just because your wife is pregnant with a boy?"
Ye Jun nodded, while Li Chunhua, standing beside him, was so angry she laughed. She picked up the water in her hand, ready to throw it at her unfortunate son.
She said that the couple seemed to be possessed.
"Get the hell out of here! I only care about my Xiaofeng!"
Ye Jun was about to leave with his head down when Fu Wan called him back.
“For the sake of us growing up together and the way you took care of me when I was little, Brother Jun, I’ll show you a way.”
Ye Jun stopped in his tracks, his face full of anticipation.
“You can go to the village and ask the village chief for a hilltop, fence it off and raise chickens. You don’t need to feed them specially, just let them grow up eating grass seeds. Then I can have my third uncle take you to the county to sell these chickens for a good price.”
This doesn't require much cost, but it's a job that requires not being afraid of getting dirty or tired.
Ye Jun pondered for a few seconds, "There's a pond down the mountain. Can I raise ducks and geese there?"
He's not stupid; he understands immediately.
"Yes, it will cost some money to contract this out. You can try raising chickens first. If you scale up the business, you can ask me for investment."
"Okay, I'll think about it when I get back. Thank you, Awan."
He felt like he was trapped in a vicious cycle lately, with his wife's words echoing in his mind every day: that his parents and aunts all favored his older brother.
Fu Wan's words just now hit him like a blow to the head. Recalling what he had done recently, he felt ashamed to stay there.
His wife wasn't always right. He really should work hard and earn money on his own.
Fu Wan was unaware of Ye Jun's change of heart; she was currently discussing something with Ye Jianguo.
"Uncle, don't divide this pork like that! My family can't possibly eat all of it!"
"I said I can eat it, and I mean I can eat it. Take this with you tomorrow!"
Oh God, someone help her! Her uncle, Ye Jianguo, gave her family half of a wild boar!
