Chapter 34 Nighttime Beachcombing

Fu Wan was happy to receive the money, and the village chief was also happy to see a table full of dishes.

With Fu San, who was skilled at socializing, even Bai Qianzhou couldn't resist urging him to drink half a cup of yellow wine.

On the table were braised blue crabs, steamed parrotfish, a pot of soup made with white eel, a few scallion pancakes, and some vegetables from the garden. The guests and hosts enjoyed the meal immensely.

Even Fu Ming stopped lying down. Dr. Bai had examined him and found that he was already able to get out of bed and walk a few steps.

"Dr. Bai, thank you so much!" Fu Ming said, holding up the bowl of soup.

"Since I can't drink alcohol, I'll have soup instead."

Bai Qianzhou's cup was filled with water, but that didn't stop him from shaking his head in denial.

"You should thank your family, after all, I was paid."

Fu Ming: "I also want to thank my family, and I also want to thank you. Once I'm better, I'll go to sea with my sister and visit you in the county town. Don't look down on me!"

A rare smile appeared on Bai Qianzhou's usually indifferent face. He was completely absorbed in his research, and even after living in the village for half a month, he stayed in his rented house every day.

The Fu family was the family he had the most contact with besides the village chief. People say that rural people are stingy, but he felt the resilience and unity of the Fu family.

The daughter who returned home after the divorce was not kicked out, the seriously injured son was not abandoned, and the wife did not wallow in self-pity even when her husband's fate was unknown.

This is much warmer than the reality of many families in the city who abandon each other when disaster strikes.

Looking at the smiling faces around him, Bai Qianzhou felt that his trip had truly been worthwhile.

Summer nights always get dark quite late; by the time it's completely dark, it's only around seven o'clock.

The rain had subsided considerably by now. Fu Wan followed Ye Xiaocui as she cleared away the dishes, while the village chief took Bai Qianzhou back to pack their things.

The next morning, Bai Qianzhou would leave Fu Family Village.

"Mom, let's go out to the beach later!"

While washing the dishes, Fu Wan encouraged Ye Xiaocui.

"I wonder if it will rain again."

There was still the sound of thunder in the distance outside, and Ye Xiaocui was somewhat unsure of what to expect.

But when Ye Xiaocui thought about the abalone she had picked up on the rainy night before, she felt a little itchy again.

"Mom, I want to go too!"

Shen Lingling had long wanted to go to the beach with Fu Wan, but Fu Wan was always out at sea and had no time to take her.

"Lingling is playing with her uncle at home. What if she falls into the sea when no one is watching her at the beach?"

Last time, Wang Xiuer's daughter, Fu Qing, was swept away by the waves in the same way. If it weren't for Fu Wan, I really can't imagine what would have happened.

The light in Shen Lingling's eyes dimmed instantly, and she looked at Fu Wan pitifully.

"Mom, I promise I won't run around. Please let me go with you."

I don't know where this child learned it, but he rubbed his hands together while asking questions.

Fu Wan simply couldn't handle her daughter's behavior, especially since she could keep Shen Lingling out of trouble.

"Okay, Mom will take you. But you can't run around."

Chen Lingling readily agreed and happily ran into the house to find tools.

Ye Xiaocui shook her head and sighed, "Let her come along then. When you were her age, your dad was taking you to play around all the time."

Old Man Fu firmly believes that children born by the sea must grow up by the sea and must also possess skills from the sea.

So when Fu Wan and her siblings were very young, he took them to practice swimming and holding their breath.

Fu Wan knew her mother was thinking about her father again, so she pretended to be relaxed and said, "Yes, Mom, let's bring two more snakeskin bags tonight and call Brother Fu Liang along!"

She was going to share the money she earned yesterday with him later that day.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Ye Xiaocui opened the door and saw Fu Liang wearing a raincoat.

"Auntie, where's A-Wan?"

Then Fu Liang whispered, "Auntie, tell Awan to go to the beach; she's sure to find some good stuff."

He had just passed by and saw that the beach was covered with seashells washed ashore by the waves, so he hurriedly ran over to call for help.

Fu Wan didn't even bother washing the dishes anymore; she just grabbed two snakeskin bags and followed Fu Liang out.

"Mom, I'll go out first. You and Lingling come quickly."

...

When the two arrived at the beach, Fu Wan was startled by the seashells that washed ashore.

There were also crabs running around from time to time, and one even bumped into Fu Wan's foot without her noticing.

"Blue crab!"

I don't know if it's because of the great migration of blue crabs, but now a group of blue crabs of all sizes are crawling out from under the rocks on the beach.

What are we waiting for?

Let's start arresting them!

Fu Liang had never encountered such a situation in all his years at the beach, and he was even more excited as he held a rope in one hand and grabbed a crab with the other.

The larger ones are mostly male crabs. These crabs are quite strong; if you get pinched by one, your arm will swell up that very night.

The feeling of being squeezed is so intense it makes you want to scream for your grandma to help you!

Fortunately, both of them were wearing thick gloves and rubber shoes.

Fu Wan lightly stepped on the crab's back with her foot, pressed down on the crab's back with one hand, and then used the other hand to tie the rope in her hand directly to the crab's claws.

Fu Liang was the same.

However, the two soon realized that this was too time-consuming, and with the rain about to stop, they estimated that many people would come out to go beachcombing.

"Brother Liang, let's just throw the crabs into the bag and tie them up when we get back!"

Fu Liang had no objection, so the two of them stomped on it fiercely, picked it up, and threw it back into the bag.

In just ten minutes, by the time Ye Xiaocui arrived with Chen Lingling, the two of them had picked up almost all the blue crabs they could see on the beach.

"Similar, but not the blue crab with its young."

Fu Wan tied a knot in the bag she was carrying. Chen Lingling ran over, and a dark object at her feet startled her.

"Mom, what is this?"

Shen Lingling pointed fearfully at the dark area on the ground, and Fu Wan shone a flashlight on it.

Wow, a bunch of sea cucumbers have just been washed ashore by the waves on the beach not far away.

"Good stuff, grab it quickly!"

The three adults and one child started picking sea cucumbers without looking up. Because Fu Wan was afraid that Chen Lingling would be hit by the waves, she made sure to keep her away from the waves.

Five minutes later, seeing that they had collected almost all the sea cucumbers, Fu Wan and Fu Liang decided to each look for something good.

As for Ye Xiaocui, she picked up the crabs and sea cucumbers and went back first.

Several people had already arrived on the beach. Before they could notice, Ye Xiaocui picked up two heavy snakeskin bags with a carrying pole and strode away.

Fu Wan must have really admired her mother. She couldn't understand how she could balance a load weighing over 100 pounds and walk so nimbly.

"Come on, Lingling, Mommy will take you to see if we can find anything good!"

Holding a tree branch, Chen Lingling followed Fu Wan around to the crowded beach. Before long, the two of them found several large rocks far away from the crowd.

There is also a small trench nearby.

"Mom, what kind of stone is this?"

The curious little girl, Chen Lingling, reached out and touched the rocks, trying to pry them open, wondering why these small stones grew on top of the big rocks.

Fu Wan shone her flashlight on them and exclaimed, "They're oysters!"

They were oysters, big and plentiful, densely packed on the rocks.
