Ye Lin agreed wholeheartedly, "Me too, Awan, no need to bother with anything. There's still some noodles that the brothers in the cabin made last night, just cook some for us."
"Okay, let's have noodles then. We still have crab here. I'll also cook some porridge and stir-fry a couple of dishes. Everyone can eat whatever they want!"
Fu Wan soaked some rice last night, which is perfect for making porridge now. Most importantly, there were quite a few black tiger prawns among the fish she picked out earlier. Besides boiling them, Fu Wan also plans to make shrimp congee.
The crabs and mantis shrimp we just picked out need to be cooked quickly; they're all half-dead, and it would be a shame if they died.
Fang Min consciously took off her gloves.
"Ah Wan, I'll help you."
"I want to go too!"
Fu Qing hurriedly followed, and Fu Wan did not refuse. Fang Min and Fu Qing were very good at cleaning crabs, and with their help, everyone could eat earlier.
Fu Wan went to make breakfast, while the others finished cleaning the deck and went to wash up.
Before washing up, Fu Ming deliberately opened the lid of the live water tank and took a look. The fish and shrimp inside were all lively and jumping around, and they should be able to survive until they returned to the dock.
After breakfast, Fu Wan went to sleep for a while.
She didn't get up until the bell rang again to signal the start of the net-laying ceremony.
"Wan, the internet looks like it's overloaded again. At this rate, will we have to go back soon instead of waiting until tonight?"
Fu Ming looked at the slowly rising net bag and said, while Fu Wan yawned and nodded.
"Almost there. If the cold storage isn't full, we'll haul in another net and try to get back early tonight."
She went to check it yesterday. There wasn't much space left in the cold storage. If there was enough seafood, they wouldn't have to wait until evening.
"What's wrong, are you homesick?"
Fu Wan glanced at Fu Ming. To be honest, she felt that her brother had been a little absent-minded these past two days.
Fu Ming smiled and said, "It's not that I miss home, it's just that I feel uneasy, like something's wrong."
Fu Wan was surprised. After being at sea for several days, Fu Ming hadn't had time to groom himself. His face was covered in stubble, his hair was a mess from the sea breeze, and he had obvious dark circles under his eyes. He did look rather unwell.
"Have you not been sleeping well these past few days? Why don't you go get some sleep after we finish sorting this net, and I'll go relieve Dad?"
Fu Ming shook his head, "It's not that I didn't sleep well, I should be fine when I get back."
He slept quite a bit last night and this morning. He actually knew why he was so tired, but he was too embarrassed to tell Fu Wan.
After having breakfast and taking a nap this morning, Fu Ming dreamed of Qin Anning. His wife, who usually smiled at him, was now crying. Fu Ming was worried and was about to ask her what was wrong when he bumped into the railing of the iron bunk bed, which woke him up in pain.
They say husband and wife are of one heart, could it be that something really happened to Qin Anning?
But she's at the camp, where there are many rules and ordinary people can't go in, so nothing should happen there.
Fu Ming rubbed his face to stop himself from overthinking. Fortunately, he would be back soon. Once he got back, he would definitely go to the camp to see Qin Anning as soon as possible!
"Oh no, this network looks like it's crashed again!"
"Yes, Wan, how about we open the internet?"
Fu Mancang looked at Fu Wan expectantly, and Fu Wan could not refuse, so she waved her hand.
"Of course! Hurry up, everyone's waiting!"
"Okay!"
Upon hearing this, Fu Mancang pulled Fu Jinshui over, and the two men stepped forward and quickly opened the net bag.
With a loud thud, Fu Wan regained her composure and saw Yu Shan standing before her.
Conspicuous fish, mantis shrimp, and various crabs.
The most abundant fish were countless ribbonfish.
"Good heavens, why are there so many dark circles under my eyes!"
Fu Haishun exclaimed, "This must weigh at least five or six thousand catties!"
"Hehe, I'm going to make a fortune again!"
Fu Daniu laughed, and Fu Ming didn't say anything. Seeing such good seafood made him feel much better.
Jack casually picked up a rake and dug open Fish Hill. When he dug, everyone was stunned again.
"May Goddess Mazu protect us, how come there are golden clams in here?"
Peel back the ribbonfish from the surface, and underneath are many other kinds of sea fish.
Fu Daniu spotted a golden clam weighing about three pounds at a glance. Fortunately, it was being protected by a ribbonfish, so its scales hadn't fallen off much. Its mouth was opening and closing, indicating that it was still alive.
Unfortunately, it couldn't be restored to its original state, so Fu Daniu could only pick it up and put it aside, planning to bleed it later.
"Look at this again, what is it?"
Fu Wan, with her sharp eyes, pulled a fish from under the pile of fish at her feet and waved it around in front of everyone. Fu Haishun initially looked puzzled, but after seeing the fish's appearance clearly, he asked with an uncertain tone:
"This...this is a jujube clam?"
"No way, who hauls clams into nets? Hai Shun, are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Fu Jinshui denied it, but Fu Haishun ignored the stupid boy and looked at it again with certainty, saying, "It is a jujube clam. I have been at sea for many years, and I would never mistake this fish."
"And the trawl net even pulled up golden clams, so it wouldn't be surprising if it pulled up fir clams too, Ah Wan, don't you think so!"
"What Hai Shun said makes sense."
Fu Wan smiled and nodded affirmatively, "This fish is indeed a Chinese clam."
After saying that, she examined the fish in her hand more closely.
She never expected that, just as she was about to return, her catch would improve with each net, not only catching so many black-eyed ribbonfish, but also golden clams and jujube clams.
Everyone says that the golden stone clam tastes better than the fir clam, but Fu Wan disagrees.
These two fish, one scientifically known as the Blue-spotted Snapper and the other as the White-spotted Snapper, belong to the same family and genus, but their appearances are quite different.
The blue star snapper is more vibrant in color than the white star snapper, with an overall grayish-brown color and covered with fine blue and white spots. Because the fine stripes around its mouth resemble a mask, it is also called the "flower-faced clam".
As for the commonalities between the two types of fish, besides belonging to the same family and genus, both have thick, orange fat inside their bellies. As for which species is fatter, that depends on the actual size of the fish.
For example, the fir clam that Fu Wan is holding right now weighs at least five pounds. It's two sizes larger than the golden clam that Fu Daniu just found, and it should be much fatter.
The way to eat jujube clams is similar to that of golden clam clams; they can be served as sashimi or steamed.
Generally, the clams caught by fishing are of better quality, but the one Fu Wan picked up didn't have many scales missing and wasn't badly damaged, so it must be very expensive.
No one expected there to be such seafood hidden under the pile of fish. Suddenly, the usually popular ribbonfish were ignored, and everyone started rummaging through the pile of fish, hoping to find other good stuff underneath.
Persistence pays off, and they actually found five or six more golden clams, as well as fir clams, but none as big as Fu Wan's, weighing only two or three pounds, so they probably weren't very plump.
However, those golden clams were all about the same size, weighing at least three pounds each.
"Alright, let's put the golden clam aside for now and hurry up and pick out the rest of the seafood!" Fu Wan waved her hand and everyone agreed.
