Chapter 26 Shen Dongsheng Arrives

Wang Zhaodi was so jealous that her eyes were almost red. If she had known that fishing at sea was so profitable, she shouldn't have stopped her husband from buying a big boat back then.

Seeing how smug Ye Xiaocui, a widow, was, Wang Zhaodi stomped her foot in anger and could only angrily pick up the sardines she had bought for a few cents that morning and turn to go home.

As I walked to the edge of the village, I saw a figure wandering aimlessly by the roadside.

Wang Zhaodi thought the man looked somewhat familiar and couldn't help but take a closer look.

He was tall and burly, wearing clothes covered in patches, and his face was covered in mud from who-knows-where.

Hey, isn't this Fu Wan's husband, Shen Dongsheng from Shenjia Village?

The thought that Fu Wan had divorced him and returned to Fu Family Village made Wang Zhaodi look down on him.

If a man can't even appease one woman, how useless must he be!

But since both of them are divorced, why is Shen Dongsheng still coming to the village?

Wang Zhaodi had seven or eight thoughts running through her mind, and she went up to him and asked, "Isn't this Shen's nephew-in-law? What brings you to our village?"

Shen Dongsheng was lingering at the village entrance, worried about not finding an excuse to enter the village.

He listened to Old Lady Shen's words and came back to pick up Shen Lingling. He left home with a proud and confident air, but the closer he got to Fujia Village, the more uncertain he became.

Fu Wan's disappointed look was still vivid in his mind, and the pain from Chen Lingling's collision with him was still fresh in his memory.

This made him absolutely afraid to enter the village!

Unexpectedly, he ran into a relative of the Fu family at the village entrance. He grinned and said, "Auntie, I've come to pick up Fu Wan and my daughter."

Wang Zhaodi's eyes lit up when she heard this. If that brat Fu Wan went back to the Shen family, then the Fu family's boat would belong to her family.

Where will Ye Xiaocui be able to be so smug then?

But she didn't show it, only tentatively asking, "Didn't you say Fu... Wan'er divorced you? Why are you still here to pick her up?"

Shen Dongsheng's face instantly turned ugly. "What divorce? It was just an argument. Lingling is my daughter."

When he left, Old Madam Shen instructed him that even if Fu Wan didn't come back, he had to take Shen Lingling with him.

We also need to make her bring her small bag.

Shen Dongsheng wasn't quite sure what Old Mrs. Shen was planning, but he would definitely listen to his mother.

When Wang Zhaodi heard him say that, she assumed that he still couldn't forget Fu Wan, so she enthusiastically led Shen Dongsheng into the village.

"Oh, I was just saying that. What couple doesn't argue? They make up before they get out of bed, so why get a divorce?"

Seeing that no one was around, she whispered, "Nephew-in-law, if you take Fu Wan back to the Shen family, my Fu family will treat the divorce as a joke, as if it never happened!"

Shen Dongsheng's eyes lit up. He hadn't seen Fu Wan for a long time and had selectively forgotten about the aunt in front of him. In fact, he didn't get along well with Fu Wan's family.

"Auntie, are you serious?"

Seeing that he believed her, Wang Zhaodi started to boast, "My husband is her uncle, I'm her aunt, her father is gone, we can make decisions for her!"

"She's at the dock right now, not at home. If you want to pick up your daughter, go to her house; she'll definitely be home!"

Now, Fu Wan's family only has one child and a bedridden, useless man named Fu Ming. Shen Dongsheng can't even take over the child, so he can only be called a real useless person.

Shen Dongsheng hesitated for a moment, "Fu Wan isn't home. Would it be appropriate for me to just take Lingling away like this?"

“What’s wrong with that? If you take the child, Fu Wan will naturally follow.”

A mother, of course, can't be separated from her child.

Shen Dongsheng nodded; he understood that point.

...

Fu Wan and Ye Xiaocui were completely unaware of the two's scheme.

Fu San brought a scale to the dock, and after several people weighed the items and wrote down the receipt, Fu Wan carried Fu Gui and followed Ye Xiaocui home.

Fu Liang followed behind, carrying a bucket of seawater.

There was nothing they could do; Fugui refused to return to the sea, so he followed Fu Wan and climbed up.

Ye Xiaocui was also amused by the sea turtle. Seeing that it was really injured and that Fu Wan was willing to take it home, she had no objections.

She was still interested in the large bucket of seafood she was carrying.

Aside from what she sold today, the fish that Fu Wan caught at sea was the meat and vegetables for the two families over the next few days.

Grandpa Fu kept pestering Fu Wan for a small white eel, and Fu Wan had no choice but to pick out a medium-sized one for him.

They were all relatives of the same clan. Grandpa Fu didn't mind that the eel was half-dead and had been pinched in several places by the crab. He gave Fu Wan a dollar and happily went home.

One yuan wasn't actually enough to cover the price of that white eel, but since Grandpa Fu didn't have much money on him that morning, Fu Wan didn't intend to take his money.

When I was a child, Grandpa Fu would often secretly give me candy and eggs.

Although they gave her one eel, there were several more in the bucket. In addition, there were several parrotfish that Fu Wan had caught, spider snails that she had picked up, and the crabs that Ye Xiaocui had tied up with hemp rope.

At this moment, they remain motionless, only able to stare helplessly as others slaughter them.

Before Fu Wan and the others even entered the courtyard, they heard a commotion coming from their own yard.

Someone ran out to look for Fu Wan, and was overjoyed to see them.

"Ah Wan, you'd better go and see! Your ex-husband is here and making a scene in the yard!"

Startled, Fu Wan quickly put Fu Gui into the arms of the newcomer and then rushed into the courtyard.

Rewind to half an hour earlier, when Shen Dongsheng followed Wang Zhaodi to Fu Wan's house, where the gate was closed.

Peeking through the low fence, I saw Chen Lingling carrying a few steamed buns from the kitchen into the house.

Fu Wan and Ye Xiaocui both felt sorry for the child, so they were willing to use wheat flour and cornmeal to make steamed buns for Shen Lingling.

Keep in mind that at that time, it was considered quite good if an ordinary rural family had cornbread.

When Shen Dongsheng saw his daughter, he almost didn't recognize her.

In just half a month, Chen Lingling had not only grown up, but her face had also become fuller, and her hair, which used to be as prickly as a hedgehog's, had grown longer and was tied into a high ponytail with a red ribbon.

She was wearing new clothes without any patches, which Fu Wan had bought at the temple fair the day before yesterday.

Shen Dongsheng felt somewhat unfamiliar with his daughter, while Wang Zhaodi's eyes welled up with tears again. That damned good-for-nothing was dressed so well and eating so well!

She hasn't even had breakfast yet!

"You little brat, come open the door for your dad!"

Wang Zhaodi called out first. Chen Lingling was holding a steamed bun and was about to go inside to ask her uncle for a story when she heard the voice outside the courtyard gate.

She spotted Shen Dongsheng immediately, but there was no joy in her eyes.

"I'm not opening it!"

After saying that, he made a face at them, turned around and went into the house.

She didn't know that her father had hit her mother before, and she didn't want a father like that!

Seeing Shen Lingling's appearance, Shen Dongsheng felt somewhat displeased.

"Nephew-in-law, why don't you just climb over the wall?"
