Chapter 232 Catching Fish in the River

"Mom, quickly get me a bucket!"

As soon as Ye Lin entered the courtyard, he called out to Li Chunhua. Fu Ling shouted "Uncle!" and was about to rush over when she saw Ye Lin covered in mud, so she stopped abruptly.

Ye Lin then noticed Fu Ling, as well as Fu Wan and the others sitting in the room.

"Ah Wan, what brings you all here?!"

Fu Wan was naturally not as polite to him as she was to Li Chunhua, "Why did we come here? It's because someone hasn't been home for several days and hasn't called. We were about to go out to sea when we found out you weren't back..."

After saying this, Ye Lin slapped his forehead, "I said I forgot what I forgot to tell my aunt and uncle that something had happened at home!"

He knew that Fu Wan and the others meant well, so he quickly smiled apologetically, "I'm so sorry, Wan, for making you come all this way."

Fu Wan waved her hand, "I was just teasing you. Hurry up and put down those fish in your pocket and go change your clothes!"

He's even slapping his forehead, which is covered in mud!

Ye Lin responded. At this moment, Ye Lin's wife, Chen Guifang, came in carrying a vegetable basket, followed by their son, Ye Zhenxing, and Ye Jun's daughter, Ye Xiaofeng.

Ye Zhenxing and Ye Xiaofeng were overjoyed to see Fu Ling, whom they hadn't seen in a long time. Qin Mingzhu, who was standing next to them, hadn't seen her before either, but the children chatted and joked, and soon the four of them were running off to play.

Fu Wan thought they were too noisy, so she told them to go play by themselves.

Once the atmosphere quieted down, Fu Wan quietly asked Li Chunhua about the division of the family property.

Li Chunhua sighed, "Ever since Ye Lin made some money at your place last time, your uncle and I have been very happy. But your brother Ye Jun also wants to go, and we can't just agree to that."

But we didn't say we wouldn't ask him. Last time, he didn't even say hello. He knew Ye Lin was going to Fujia Village to get the bicycle, but he still rode it away.

After Ye Lin returned, his wife, along with her family, started demanding a separation of the household.

Oh, I see. "So how was it divided in the end?"

Li Chunhua became somewhat saddened when this was mentioned, "Your uncle and I will follow your brother Ye Lin. When we can no longer work, your brother Ye Lin will take care of us."

This is truly a complicated matter.

"So Brother Ye Jun is just going to ignore everything?!"

Li Chunhua shook her head, "Never mind, the family savings have been divided into three parts: one for me and your uncle, and one for each of the two brothers."

"The reason Ye Lin wants to build a house is because, given how things have turned out, it's impossible for the two brothers to live under the same roof. Seeing that Zhenxing is growing bigger, Ye Jun wants the old house back, so Ye Lin simply decided to build a new house, and we'll move in after it's finished."

Not only was Fu Wan speechless, but even Fu Ming felt that Ye Jun had gone too far.

Li Chunhua wiped away tears when she talked about this, and Fu Wan could only comfort her, "Auntie, Brother Ye Lin is capable, and your good days are yet to come."

Li Chunhua nodded. All she wanted to do now was raise her grandchildren and try not to cause any trouble for her eldest son and his wife.

Ye Lin put the crucian carp he brought back into the water to keep them alive, but he wasn't in a hurry to change his clothes.

He took a dusty fishing net from behind the house and then called to Fu Wan and Fu Ming.

"Ah Wan and Ah Ming, it rained a few days ago and half of the riverbank collapsed. That's where I caught my fish. Do you want to go and take a look?"

Of course I'll go.

Since we're already here, and besides, Fu Wan hasn't caught any freshwater fish in ages.

Without further ado, Chen Guifang took a carrying pole and two small buckets. Li Chunhua also wanted to go, but then she thought it was getting late and she had to prepare lunch.

Fu Wan and Fu Ming changed into a set of clothes they wore for farm work, and then followed Ye Lin to the riverbank.

The river in Qingshan Village is a tributary of a river in Longhai City. During the famine decades ago, the small fish and shrimp in the river were all caught and wiped clean, which fed many villagers in Qingshan Village.

When Fu Wan was a child, she caught a lot of fish and shrimp here with Ye Lin and the others, but that was more than ten years ago.

When we arrived at the riverbank, many villagers were already rolling up their trousers and searching for fish and shrimp in the shallow water with buckets in hand.

Some clever ones, like Ye Lin, ran home to get a hand net, but Fu Wan saw that everyone's catch was only small fish and shrimp, and she didn't see a single big fish.

Ye Lin ran back to get the net, naturally because he had his own secret base. He led Fu Wan and the others towards the mountainside until they stopped when they could no longer see anyone around.

"I caught my fish right here!"

Fu Wan thought this place was indeed nice; even the river water seemed much clearer.

Ye Lin quickly opened the fishing net in his hand, then let Fu Ming hold one end while he held the other end, and slowly swam to the other side of the river.

The river wasn't wide, probably because it was flanked by mountains, but the water was deep in the middle, so Fu Wan didn't plan to go down.

After all, river water is not as good as seawater. Seawater has a higher salt solubility, so its visibility is better and it is much cleaner than river water.

There were indeed many fish in the river. Just as Ye Lin was swimming across to the other side, Fu Ming clearly felt the fish hitting the fishing net.

After finally getting Ye Lin to the shallow water on the other side of the river, the two brothers, each holding a fishing net, slowly walked upstream.

Just then, a large fish in the middle of the river, perhaps because it was entangled in the fishing net, suddenly struggled and jumped up, then fell heavily back into the water.

There really is a big fish!

Fu Wan and her cousin-in-law Chen Guifang exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with surprise.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve caught any big fish in this river. Brother Lin was right. You guys are really lucky, Awan.”

Looking at her cousin-in-law's bright eyes, Fu Wan felt embarrassed to say that this had nothing to do with her.

She didn't even set up a net, so how did it get involved with her luck?

However, by then she had already seen several small crucian carp, each about the size of a palm, on the riverbank. These fish, when fried in oil until golden brown on both sides, are incredibly fragrant and crispy.

What else could it be but a hand-held net?

Fu Wan picked up the net in her hand and quickly scooped it towards the small fish. Before Chen Guifang could react, the net in Fu Wan's hand had brought the fish to the side of her bucket.

"Wan, you're really amazing!"

Chen Guifang had immense respect for her husband's cousin. She still remembered how Fu Wan had taught them how to cook crayfish, and how they had made quite a bit of money from it.

Fu Wan waved her hand, saying, "This is nothing."

Then she found several more small fish, all crucian carp. After she had scooped all the crucian carp from the shallow water ashore, Fu Ming and Ye Lin also started pulling their fishing nets ashore.

"It's so heavy, is there a big fish inside?!"

In these rural rivers, there are no net-hauling machines for catching fish; it's all done by hand.

Two burly men, each over six feet tall, strained so hard that the veins on their necks bulged, before they finally managed to pull the fishing net ashore.

"Fish, there really are big fish! They're bighead carp!"

Fu Ming was so excited that he lost his balance and almost fell into the river.

Fu Wan, who was supporting him, was the one who suffered. She stepped directly into the river, and the soft mud made her leg sink in immediately.

Fu Wan was about to pull it out, grimacing, when she felt a hard stone under her feet.

That stone is clearly moving!
