This wasn't their first time fishing at sea, so everyone had a rough estimate of when to haul in the nets.
Seeing that the fishing boat was moving slower and slower, and calculating that three or four hours had passed, it was probably time to haul in the nets.
The most relaxed people on the entire ship were Jack and his two companions, who were frantically taking pictures with Fu Wan's camera.
They took photos with the sea, with Ye Lin and the others, and even with the seagulls passing by and Hua Kai Fu Gui, who was slowly eating. They pulled them all over for a group photo.
Seeing Fu Wan approach, Tom and Robert exchanged a glance, then stepped forward and grabbed her for a photo.
Fu Wan was exasperated. The roll of film she brought should have been almost used up, but after thinking about it, she let them do as they pleased.
After all, they'll be leaving in two days, so even if they cause trouble, it'll only last two or three days!
"Everyone get ready, it's about time to set up the internet cafe!"
Fu Wan gave a shout, and Fu Haishun and the others immediately stopped what they were doing.
As per usual practice, Ye Lin went to start the hauling machine, Fu Haishun and Fu Daniu wound the hemp rope, and Fu Jinshui and Fu Mancang stayed in front, constantly watching the hemp rope of the hauling net to follow the direction of the hauling machine.
Fu Wan, Fu Qing, and Fang Min were naturally preparing fish baskets to hold the catch. When Jack saw the net being pulled in, he quickly put his camera away and ran to the deck to witness the haul.
Soon, another familiar large net bag appeared before everyone's eyes. Jack looked at the round and bulging net bag and shouted with joy.
"Wan, I think this net is a good product!"
Fu Haishun couldn't help but laugh as he listened. This foreigner actually knows about good stuff!
Robert was eager to try. "Wan, can we open Pandora's box again this time?"
"Pandora's Box?"
"Yes, this magical net bag is Pandora's box; it has a magical power."
God bless me, Mazu bless me, I've fallen in love with the feeling of opening it.
As Robert spoke, he somehow learned to put his hands together in a pleading gesture towards Fu Wan.
Fu Wan was both amused and exasperated. Since they had gone to such lengths, how could she refuse? She simply waved her hand and agreed.
"Go ahead, let you try again!"
Fu Mingye Lin didn't have much of an opinion about Fu Wan letting Robert, Tom, and the other two untie the rope.
Fu Haishun, Fu Mancang, and the other three had no objections. In their view, it didn't matter who did the unloading; what they cared about most was finding out what kind of seafood was in the net bag as soon as possible.
Only Fu Qing pouted unhappily. She was just about to tell Fu Wan that she could untie the rope, but this foreigner beat her to it.
Hmph, she's still not fast enough. After she finishes selecting the fish, she'll go and arrange with Fu Wan to set the net for her!
With Fu Wan's permission, Robert and Tom rushed towards the large net bag that had just come to a stop. The seawater brought up by the net bag splashed their feet, but the two of them didn't mind at all. Instead, they hurriedly began to untie the ropes on the net bag.
They had learned how to untie the rope long ago, and although they hadn't practiced it many times, they had already mentally demonstrated it hundreds of times.
The two worked together fairly well. Just as Jack was about to untie the last knot, Robert suddenly remembered something, grabbed the knot, and, imitating Fu Wan's earlier actions, shouted loudly in broken Chinese:
"May Mazu bless you, may God bless you, and may you prosper and become wealthy!"
This sentence used almost every Chinese blessing Robert knew, and Tom followed suit and learned the exact same one, except that his Chinese was poor, and with that accent, he couldn't understand what it meant at all without having to savor it several times.
The crowd found it both funny and touching. Before they could even make a joke, the seafood in the net bag was suddenly dumped in front of them.
"Hey, not bad, there are quite a lot of white pomfret!"
"Not only that, there are also swallowtail pomfret and fighting pomfret. Hmm, it looks like there are more net pomfret here."
Ye Lin immediately recognized the large white pomfret at the very top of Fish Mountain. Fu Ming looked even closer. As the aristocrat among pomfret, the white pomfret was definitely not as expensive as the fighting pomfret.
The body of the pomfret is thicker and the flesh is more delicate and firm. Especially after steaming, its taste is far superior to that of the white pomfret.
There aren't so many tricks around at the docks, but in restaurants in county towns or cities, many unscrupulous owners sell white pomfret as small pomfret to diners. If you don't know any better, it's very easy to be fooled.
Of course, while white pomfret is not as good as fighting pomfret, it is still far ahead of swallowtail pomfret.
Fortunately, there were quite a few fighting pomfret in this net. It seems that the number of white pomfret and swallowtail pomfret combined is not as many as the number of fighting pomfret. Overall, the harvest was not bad.
Besides pomfret, the net also pulled up a lot of shrimp and crabs, mostly mantis shrimp and tiger prawns.
As for the crabs, all you could see were blue crabs and swimming crabs. Fu Wan rummaged around with a rake for a bit and found several mantis shrimps and red flower crabs in the pile of fish.
"These red flower crabs look quite plump. Let's pick them out first, lest they die later."
Fu Wan turned to instruct Fu Jinshui, who responded and quickly went to select the red flower crabs.
Bottom trawls inevitably bring up some garbage, such as broken fishing nets and burlap sacks. Fu Wan had the boatmen put them all aside and put them in snakeskin bags, ready to throw them away ashore.
If these things are thrown back into the sea, they will pollute the marine environment. Since they came up with our fishing nets, we might as well take them back and throw them in the landfill.
"Wan, is this edible?"
Jack's voice came from behind Fu Wan. She turned around and was surprised to find that he was holding a jellyfish that was bigger than his head.
Fu Wan's heart tightened, but she breathed a sigh of relief after recognizing that it was a non-toxic jellyfish.
"Of course you can eat it. Cold jellyfish salad tastes great. Set it aside, I'll take care of it later."
After saying that, she added, "Don't touch the jellyfish carelessly. If you touch a poisonous one, you'll regret it later."
Upon hearing this, Jack put down the jellyfish with embarrassment. He had momentarily forgotten that the jellyfish was poisonous, and since Fu Ming had just told him that the jellyfish was edible, he was eager to confirm with Fu Wan. In his haste, he picked up the jellyfish.
To his surprise, the jellyfish was actually edible.
After saying this, Fu Wan turned around and started rummaging through the seafood. Jack stood there stunned for a moment, then picked up the jellyfish and put it in the empty fish basket next to him.
Fu Wan couldn't possibly conspire with Fu Ming to deceive him in such a short time, so this giant jellyfish really is edible.
Thinking about all the amazing Chinese delicacies he had seen, Jack felt a sense of anticipation. What kind of flavor would this jellyfish, which they avoided like the plague, be made into in the hands of the amazing Chinese people?
Fu Wan had no idea what Jack was thinking. She finally managed to pry the fish out of the mountain, and then she and Ye Lin quickly cleaned up all the garbage they had pulled up.
You don't know until you clean it, and once you do, you're really shocked.
