Chapter 63 What a huge coconut crab!

Fu Wan felt her mouth go dry when she heard the word "coconut." Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a coconut to eat right now?

Oh, right, she saw mangoes on this island last time!

Fu Wan stopped digging for sand worms, and Boss Fu, who was moving rocks and catching blue crabs with Ye Xiaocui, also came over.

"Let me handle this, you all get out of the way!"

Just kidding, a coconut weighs three or four pounds, and some can even weigh five or six pounds. If it were to fall on someone's head, their head would be smashed open.

Boss Fu told Ye Xiaocui and Fu Wan to take Chen Lingling to pick mangoes, while he went to the woods nearby to find a long branch and tied a small knife to it.

Holding a long branch up to the top of the coconut, then using a small knife at the end of the branch to cut back and forth, a coconut will soon fall down with a snap.

Hey, that's so typical of him!

After picking more than twenty coconuts, Boss Fu finally stopped.

It would be a waste not to pick them and leave them there. There's not a soul on this deserted island. Ripe coconuts either fall down and get eaten by insects and ants, or they just rot on the tree.

That's a real shame.

Ye Xiaocui and Boss Fu have been married for decades, and now they're thinking the same thing.

Looking at Ye Xiaocui picking mangoes, Fu Wan reasonably suspected that if she weren't forbidden from doing so, her mother could have packed up all those mango trees and carried them home!

These sacks of mangoes on the ground—they didn't just come to pick a few to taste; they've clearly come to buy more.

Fishermen who have worked hard all their lives are naturally not lacking in strength. Before Boss Fu could even come looking for them, Ye Xiaocui had already carried a bag full of mangoes and walked ahead.

With such a swift and agile movement, if Fu Wan hadn't been carrying a mango that was half the size of her mother's, she would have suspected that Ye Xiaocui was actually carrying a mango that weighed nearly a hundred pounds.

She'd have a hard time carrying those 70 or 80 pounds!

Shen Lingling, with her mouth full of mango, remembered to stuff the mango into her mouth when she saw that Fu Wan couldn't lift it, and freed both hands to help her carry it.

"My daughter is so thoughtful," Fu Wan thought. "I was so ashamed of my mother's disappointed expression."

They finally ran into Boss Fu halfway there. He took the sack from Fu Wan's hand, slung it over his shoulder, and reached out to take Ye Xiaocui's sack as well.

"We're almost there, what are you still carrying!"

Ye Xiaocui ignored him and quickly walked towards the open space they had just found.

Fu Wan felt subtly insulted, but dared not say anything at the moment. This mango really couldn't take a bit of it!

She obediently continued packing the mangoes piled up under the tree, waiting for her father to carry them.

After the group had gathered all the mangoes and coconuts together, Fu Wan finally sat down, exhausted, on a thick, withered tree branch.

Then she took a screwdriver and opened a coconut for Chen Lingling, and took a sip herself. She felt too weak to open a second one.

It was Boss Fu who couldn't stand it anymore, so he picked up a screwdriver and quickly opened one for each of them.

Holding a large coconut in my hands, the sky is blue, the sea is blue, and a gentle breeze is blowing.

Fu Wan and the others felt extremely comfortable. Even Chen Lingling was holding a coconut that was bigger than her head, and she was so happy that she squinted her eyes.

"Dad, can you catch coconut crabs with this coconut?"

Coconut crab?

Fu Laoda chewed the coconut meat in his mouth and swallowed it. He had seen coconut crabs when he was a child.

There are also many large coconut groves in Fujia Village. When they were young, they and their friends often followed the adults in the village to fish for coconut crabs with coconut meat.

He still remembers the one he caught, which was as big as two coconuts. He hid away and boiled it in water, eating it for three days straight.

Later, during the famine years, people dug up and ate not only coconut crabs, but even grass roots from the ground.

The coconut crabs were eaten to extinction by starving villagers, and they have never been caught in the coconut groves since.

Although this deserted island is a two-hour flight from Fu Family Village, it looks like no one has ever been here before.

There might actually be coconut crabs!

With nothing else to do, Fu Ming and Fu Liang sailed their boat to an unknown location. The group of people on the deserted island smashed open the coconuts that had been drained of their juice, divided them into several pieces, and placed them in the holes under the coconut trees.

Coconut crabs get their name from their ability to use their large claws to crack open coconuts and eat the coconut meat inside. When Fu Wan and the others found several holes under the coconut tree, they felt that there was something to it.

During the coconut crab breeding season, they return to the ocean to lay their eggs in the water. After the baby crabs are born in the water, they grow up and return to live on land.

Perhaps due to its unique growth experience, it is significantly larger than most crabs in the sea, especially its claws, which are incredibly thick.

However, coconut crabs are generally nocturnal, and Fu Wan and the others were unsure whether any greedy coconut crabs might succumb to the temptation of food and crawl out to eat at this time.

While waiting for the coconut crabs to bite, Chen Lingling complained that she was a little hungry, as she had already fed the fish with her lunch on the boat.

Fortunately, Boss Fu had a small stainless steel pot with him. The group gathered some dry branches in the shade, washed the crabs they had just picked up, and put some seawater in the pot to cook them.

It was Shen Lingling's first time eating crabs outside like this, and she was so excited that she ran around. Fu Wan really admired the child's energy; she seemed to be always full of electricity and never got tired.

Each person received one of the palm-sized blue crabs. Although they weren't seasoned, they were still fresh and sweet in their original flavor.

After finishing the crabs, Fu Wan asked Ye Xiaocui to take Chen Lingling with her, while she and Boss Fu went to check if there was any movement of coconut crabs.

She was quite lucky; just as Fu Wan was feeling disappointed after searching for two or three traps without finding any, a large lump of white coconut meat next to her suddenly caught her eye.

A coconut crab, about the size of one and a half basketballs, was nestled next to a coconut, with a large piece of coconut meat still gripping one of its claws.

Fu Wan stepped on the coconut crab with her foot and then grabbed it by its two largest claws with both hands.

Good heavens, you don't know until you catch it, this crab weighs at least ten pounds. Because of its large size, it also looks a bit clumsy. It was thrown into the bag by Fu Wan without much struggle.

However, such greedy coconut crabs are rare. Fu Wan searched for more than ten traps, but apart from this big crab, she only caught a small crab weighing five or six pounds.

However, it is still enormous compared to a blue crab.

Carrying two crabs back, Boss Fu returned empty-handed; he hadn't seen a single one, so he simply gave up.

Fu Laoda was shocked when he saw the two large crabs that Fu Wan poured out, thinking he wouldn't be able to catch the coconut crab.

Both of these crabs are bigger than the ones he caught when he was a child!

His daughter is incredibly lucky!

Ye Xiaocui and Shen Lingling were even more amazed when they saw it.

This crab is enormous!

While the group was still beaming with joy at the coconut crabs, the roar of an engine came from the sea. Fu Ming and Fu Liang were returning in their boat.

Fu Wan and the others watched the boats approaching from afar on the sea, wondering how well the two had fared with their longline fishing today.
