Chapter 679 What's in the Basket?

Ye Jianguo can cook?

Fu Ming and Fu Wan looked at each other in bewilderment. In the past twenty years, how come they had no recollection of their uncle cooking?

Seeing the distrust on his nephews' and nieces' faces, Ye Jianguo immediately became furious.

"You don't believe I can cook? Fine, when I took you up the mountain before, didn't I roast rabbit and quail for you?"

Upon hearing this, Fu Wan nodded subconsciously. To be honest, Ye Jianguo's barbecue skills were top-notch.

But being able to barbecue and being able to cook are two completely different things.

"Alright, alright, you all go out and have fun. Leave this to me and your aunt."

"Amin, take them to see the second brother and tell him to come over for lunch!"

"Alright!"

Fu Ming readily agreed, and the group headed towards Ye Jun's chicken farm.

When Qin Anning first came to Qingshan Village, she found it to be quite different from Fujia Village.

"What's different?"

Fu Wan was a little puzzled, but then she saw Qin Anning smile and say, "One lives off the mountain, the other lives off the sea?"

"My wife is so smart!"

Fu Ming immediately gave her a thumbs up, leaving Fu Wan somewhat speechless.

Qin Anning glanced at Fu Ming, who quickly shut his mouth. He decided to just walk ahead and listen to the two of them chatter.

"Qingshan Village feels to have a worse economic environment. The people here are generally shorter than the villagers in Fujia Village, and there are not many brick and tile houses in the village. Most of them are still houses built with mud clods."

The people of Fujia Village are mostly tall, although there are quite a few who are thin, but they are better off than those of Qingshan Village.

The same applies to housing; half of Fujia Village consists of brick houses, with only a small number of elderly people still living in the old buildings.

Fu Wan was surprised by her keen observation. "Do you know why?"

"I don't know, Awan, do you know?"

Qin Anning asked subconsciously. She was a science student who did research, and her focus was sometimes quite strange.

Moreover, she often pays attention to small details, so as soon as she got off the bus, she subconsciously compared the differences between the two villages.

"Haha, let me tell you. Although Qingshan Village is located near the mountains, very few people can make a great harvest in the mountains."

The mountains are home to wild rabbits, pheasants, and wild boars; there may even be bears and tigers in the deep mountains.

Therefore, going up the mountain is very risky. Generally, farmers can only dig some wild vegetables at the foot of the mountain, and if they are lucky, they might find a few wild eggs to pick up.

Most villagers in Qingshan Village toil in the fields, relying on crops for their main income. However, with limited land, they could barely keep their families from starving after paying the grain tax.

The villagers of Fujia Village are different. Although they have little farmland, every household can catch some seafood from the sea.

Putting everything else aside, every day I would catch some clams and mussels at the beach. Although they weren't very tasty, at least they were a kind of meat dish.

If you're lucky, you can find some good stuff when the tide goes out.

This has led to different economic development in the two villages. However, each generation has its own pursuits. Many of the young people in Qingshan Village have gone out to work hard, learn skills, and make a lot of money.

Ultimately, it all boils down to one sentence: as long as you work hard, everyone, whether in Qingshan Village or Fujia Village, can live a good life.

After listening to Fu Wan's words, Qin Anning and Fu Ming nodded repeatedly.

Especially Fu Ming, how come he never realized that his sister had such amazing observational skills?

As they were talking, the three of them spotted Ye Jun's fenced-off chicken farm in the distance.

"Brother Ye Jun!"

Fu Wan shouted, and two people immediately emerged from behind a tree.

"Ah Wan, Ah Ming, what brings you here? And who is this...?"

"Oh, I know, Comrade Qin, do you remember me? I am Ye Lin, A Ming's cousin, and this is my younger brother Ye Jun."

Ye Lin recognized Qin Anning at a glance; he had met Qin Anning twice before.

Qin Anning greeted her with a smile, and Fu Wan then asked, "Brother Lin, what are you doing here?"

"Oh, I'm helping Ah Jun trim the feathers off these chickens' wings."

"Hey, it's almost Chinese New Year now. If we don't clip their wings, they'll fly around aimlessly and might end up in someone's pot."

Every village has its share of shady dealings. Ye Jun's chickens are almost ready for market these days. For the past few months, Ye Jun has been working tirelessly from dawn till dusk to fatten them up.

Just when I was about to convert them into cash, two hens suddenly disappeared a few days ago.

Ye Jun searched around but couldn't find it, so he could only sit there sulking in frustration.

Ye Lin had also helped his younger brother look for chickens a few days ago, but he couldn't find a single feather. He only found a few chickens flying out to look for food.

There was no other way, so the two brothers discussed it and decided that in addition to raising the surrounding wooden stakes, they also had to trim the chicken wings to prevent the chickens from flying away.

After hearing this, Fu Wan and the others suddenly realized what was going on.

Fu Ming immediately rolled up his sleeves. "Do you have any scissors? I'll help you cut them."

"No need, we've already finished cutting it."

Ye Jun waved his hand and brushed the chicken feathers off his body.

He only found out why Fu Wan and the others had come after hearing Ye Lin's words.

Seeing that he had finished his work, Fu Wan told him what Li Chunhua had just asked her to do.

"My aunt said you should go home for dinner earlier."

Ye Jun looked troubled upon hearing this. Although the chicken feathers had been trimmed, he was still worried. It would take at least half an hour to get back for dinner, and what if someone sneaked in during that time...

"Alright, I'll bring it to you later. Just stay here and keep watch!"

With brothers of one mind, he could tell what Ye Jun was thinking just by looking at him.

Sure enough, as soon as Ye Lin said that, Ye Jun's furrowed brows relaxed instantly.

"Okay, then take some eggs back with you. Mom will cook them for Awan and the others at noon."

After saying that, he asked Fu Wan and the others, "We haven't sold the eggs we collected these past few days. Do you want some eggs? We can take them back later."

Fu Wan didn't refuse; if Ye Jun could give her some, she would accept it. She realized yesterday while cooking that they didn't have many eggs at home, and with Fu Ming's wedding in a few days, they might have to buy more from someone else.

Buying from someone else is the same as buying from someone else, so why not let your own family earn the money?

"Okay, we'll calculate it based on the market price then."

"What market price? It's just a few eggs, don't make such a fuss!"

Ye Jun waved his hand, refusing to take the money no matter what.

Just as the group was about to say goodbye and go home, Ye Jun suddenly remembered something and grabbed Ye Lin.

"Brother, let's take that thing back with us. After you've packed it up, Mom can make some soup!"

"Oh, I almost forgot! I'll go get it now!"

Fu Wan and Fu Ming were completely confused. "What is that?"

So mysterious!

As soon as he finished speaking, Ye Lin came out of the house with a basket on his back. Fu Wan peeked out and immediately felt a chill run down her spine.

Good heavens! Inside was a black snake, thick and large, taking up more than half of the basket!
