Chapter 1040 Fu Wan's Plans

Xu Laobie cursed and swore on the boat, sometimes cursing Wang Mazi for being useless, and sometimes cursing the dwarf for smelling too bad.

Most of the comments were cursing Fu Wan and Bai Qianzhou for being crazy, for releasing the sperm whale and the sea lizard and then running away.

If Xu Laobie had looked carefully beneath their boat with a flashlight, he would have found that Fu Wan and Bai Qianzhou were still floating on the water and had not left.

"So, are there any artifacts in the cargo hold?"

While she was dealing with Xu Laobie, Bai Qianzhou went to the cargo hold that Zhang Fugui had mentioned.

Bai Qianzhou nodded, his voice tinged with anger.

"Yes, they are indeed Buddha heads. And there's more than one. They're too big to move easily, so we'll have to wait until the ship from the camp arrives to decide the exact number."

It turns out there really is a Buddha head. In Longhai City, where many people believe in Mazu, such Buddha heads are rare. It's highly likely that someone secretly brought it from another province.

Although most people in China are poor these days, even the poorest people earn money through their own efforts, working in the fields or other legal means.

People who secretly take away and sell cultural relics left by our ancestors cannot be called Chinese; they should be called traitors!

This might not be something one or two people can pull off, but there's bound to be a complete smuggling chain behind it. That's why Fu Wan didn't take direct control of Xu Laobie's ship. She wanted to see who Xu Laobie was meeting and what good goods were on board.

"Let's go back. I reckon the ship to the camp should be arriving soon."

Fu Wan glanced at the smuggling ship that was still stationary, then swam toward the nearby "Riding the Waves".

"Boss, boss, they're here again, they're here again!"

As the dwarf watched the approaching "Riding the Waves," his expression grew tense.

He had only just learned that the sperm whale that attacked the bow of the ship was under the command of a female comrade.

The woman in question disembarked from the large ship.

"I'm not blind, I can see!"

Xu Laobie cursed angrily, but he was not calm on the surface.

Those two men were already helpless; if another large ship were to come along, a single collision would send him to the sea to feed the sharks.

Just as Xu Laobie and Ai Zi were tense, the "Riding the Waves" suddenly came to a stop.

Xu Laobie gripped the stick tightly, and his heart, which had been pounding in his throat, finally calmed down.

He's stupid. Those two busybodies just got off their boat, so why don't they go back to their boat now?

Otherwise, how could one possibly swim back across the vast ocean?

The dwarf was still muttering about the boat, but Old Turtle Xu was getting impatient.

"Stop shouting! Go see if the boat can start. Hurry up and head to the usual spot. If we're late, we'll all be in big trouble!"

Xu Laobie, his face dark, shouted at the dwarf. He was having a really bad day; he hadn't checked the almanac before going out and had run into two busybodies.

I only caught a few whales, what business is it of theirs? They came up and released the whales, and then made a mess of my ship.

Fortunately, it's still early. As long as the boat is alright, we can still make it back to our old spot.

The most crucial thing is the contents of the cargo hold. If something goes wrong with those things, I could really lose my life!

Thinking of this, Xu Laobie cursed Fu Wan's ancestors for eighteen generations in his heart. He subconsciously reached into his clothes and touched the inside pocket, and suddenly realized that something was wrong.

Damn it, that woman took his gun!

Damn it, he spent a hundred yuan to buy that for himself, and he hasn't even used it yet!

If he hadn't seen that Wang Mazi was unarmed, he wouldn't have given away the Browning without much thought.

It's all Wang Mazi's fault for being useless; he had his weapon in his hand, yet a woman managed to steal it from him.

Thinking of this, an angry Xu Laobie kicked Wang Mazi hard again.

Useless thing!

This kick actually woke Wang Mazi up.

"Boss... Boss?"

"We're still alive?!"

"Damn it, where's our whale?!"

It took Wang Mazi a long time to realize what had happened before he was knocked unconscious. Looking at the mess on the deck, Wang Mazi was furious.

Of course, he could only vent his anger verbally; he really didn't have the ability to retaliate.

"Boss, should we go back and find someone..."

At this point, he raised his hand and gestured towards his neck. Old Turtle Xu's eyes widened. "There's been a crackdown lately. Are you trying to kill me?"

"So we're just going to suffer a loss for nothing?"

Wang Mazi was indignant, having never suffered such a loss since he had been associated with Xu Laobie.

Xu Laobie was also frustrated, but judging from the skills of those two men, they were not like ordinary fishermen.

"This is definitely not over yet. We'll talk about it when we get back. Right now, we need to get this shipment out!"

Wang Mazi knew the importance of this shipment, so he could only nod in agreement.

With that in mind, the two hurriedly returned to the cabin and looked out to sea. The "Riding the Waves" ship was quite large and could be seen at a glance.

Xu Laobie breathed a sigh of relief when he discovered that the direction the "Riding the Waves" was heading after restarting was different from theirs.

If this ship insists on following me, it will definitely ruin my plans.

On the ship, Fu Wan took the dry towel that Qin Anning handed her and wiped the water off her face.

"Sister-in-law, have you received any news from the camp?"

Qin Anning nodded, "They've gone back. Their ship has already set sail. They should be here in half an hour at most."

Half an hour left?

Fu Wan pondered for a moment, then turned to look at Zhang Fugui, who was trying to minimize his presence by keeping his head down.

"Uncle, do you know exactly when their transaction for this shipment took place?"

Zhang Fugui was caught off guard by being called out, and it took him a while to focus his bewildered gaze.

"I heard Wang Mazi mention it; it should be around midnight. It's been raining these past few days, and there aren't many fishermen at sea, but just in case, they still arranged to meet at midnight."

Midnight?

Fu Wan raised her hand and glanced at her watch. It wasn't even nine o'clock yet; there was still plenty of time.

"The camp's boat hasn't arrived yet. Let's follow it slowly and leave when it comes."

If you're going to help someone, help them all the way. Now that it's confirmed there are cultural relics in the cargo hold, Fu Wan is determined not to let the smuggling ship get away.

If she hadn't been planning to play the long game, she and Bai Qianzhou could have intercepted the cargo on board as soon as they boarded.

"Sister-in-law, please contact the boat at the camp and have them meet with us first."

When the ship arrives, the "Riding the Waves" will return to port, and the camp's ships will be there to catch all those people in one fell swoop!

Fu Wan didn't hide this plan from Fu Laoda and the others. When Ye Xiaocui heard that there were only three people on the other ship and that the camp had already sent a ship out, she didn't stop them. She simply took Fu Ling and Qin Mingzhu back to the rest cabin to sleep.

Fu Wan wasn't asleep. She had just rescued a sperm whale and was now working with a smuggling ring. She was so excited that she couldn't fall asleep!
