Chapter 5 Fu Ming's Life-or-Death Attempt

"Oh my, isn't this Wan'er?" A woman pushed open the gate of Fu Wan's courtyard, wondering where this mother and daughter had come from.

Fu Wan was truly mistreated terribly in the Shen family.

Before Fu Wan could answer, the woman stepped forward and grabbed her arm.

"Wan, the dead cannot be brought back to life."

Life has to go on. Go and try to persuade your mother. I'll talk to the village chief about your brother later and see if he can find a tractor to take him to the town hospital for a checkup.

"Humans can only have hope if they survive!"

After hearing this heartfelt plea, Fu Wan finally remembered who the woman was. She was Aunt Jiang, the daughter-in-law of her grandfather's younger brother.

More than ten years ago, Aunt Jiang's husband also went out to sea and never came back, leaving Aunt Jiang to raise her son alone.

"Auntie, I know. I'll go back and talk to my mom and brother. I'll take care of the family from now on."

"Come on, ring ring, say goodbye to your auntie."

After saying goodbye, Fu Wan was no longer saddened and hurriedly pulled Chen Lingling into the house.

Aunt Jiang knew that Fu Wan was definitely not in the mood to reminisce with her, but she also felt something was off about what Fu Wan had said earlier.

There's no reason for a married daughter to stay at home forever.

Sigh, I should still have my son come over more often. Even if he can just send a fish every few days, that would be nice.

After all, when her husband passed away, Fu Wan's family often took care of her.

Fu Wan entered her living room, but the house was empty. She put down her luggage and went to her brother's room.

Before he even stepped inside, he heard his mother's choked voice, "Fu Ming, please eat something. Your father is gone, and you're not eating. How am I supposed to live?"

After a long silence, just as Fu Wan was about to push the door open, a hoarse voice rang out, "Mother, you eat, don't make me waste food."

"I'm a useless person now. It'll save me from being a burden if I die sooner."

Upon hearing this, Fu Wan could no longer hold back and angrily pushed open the door.

"Fu Ming, you're really something! It's just a leg injury, and you're acting like you're going to die!"

Fu Ming opened his eyes while lying in bed and saw his sister, whom he hadn't seen in a long time, push the door open and enter. A small head popped out from behind her; it was clearly his niece, Chen Lingling.

"Wan'er, you're back!" Ye Xiaocui was both happy and worried to see her daughter return.

The good news was that her daughter was back, at least she had someone to talk to. The bad news was that Old Mrs. Shen was not easy to deal with, and she was afraid that her daughter had suffered a lot after returning home.

"What happened to the injury on your face? Did Shen Dongsheng hit you?" Fu Ming's hoarse voice rang out again, this time with a clear hint of anger in his tone.

Ye Xiaocui also noticed the injury on her daughter's face and turned to rummage for ointment in the medicine box.

"Was it your mother-in-law or Shen Dongsheng who hit you?"

"It was my grandma and my dad who hit her!" Before Fu Wan could speak, Chen Lingling answered first.

"Uncle, grandma, and my grandpa are really fierce. Today, they even tried to hold my mom underwater with my dad. Luckily, I'm smart and I learned Iron Head Kung Fu. I knocked them down one by one with my head to protect my mom!"

Although no one knew what kind of Iron Head Kung Fu Shen Lingling was talking about, the oppressive atmosphere in the room was somewhat dispelled by her childlike words.

Now that everyone's mood had calmed down, Fu Wan said directly, "Mom, brother, I'm divorced from Shen Dongsheng. Lingling is mine, and they even paid me three hundred yuan in compensation. From now on, I have nothing to do with the Shen family."

"How could they get divorced out of nowhere?" Ye Xiaocui frowned, her lips drooping, her face full of bitterness.

Fu Ming didn't know what to say. He was now a cripple. If he were still healthy, he would definitely go to the Shen family to demand justice for his sister.

Fu Wan knew perfectly well that her family was doing it all for her own good, and besides, divorce was a good thing for her, so there was no need for her to act all bitter and resentful.

"Mother, brother, I told you I got divorced not so you would worry about me."

I'm back home now, which is much better than being a slave to the Shen family. Once I earn some money, I'll take my brother to the county hospital to see what the doctor says.

After saying that, she took out the three hundred yuan that the Shen family had given her earlier. "Mom, can you ask the village chief to help us take my brother to town to get his leg checked out? It might be a sting from a stingray or some kind of fish. Once the poison is removed, he should be fine."

The marriage was already over, and Ye Xiaocui didn't want to say anything more, after all, her daughter's injuries were real.

“This is your life savings, I can’t take it.” Fu Ming’s eyes, which had been brightening, quickly darkened again. “I don’t know if it was a manta ray, the waves were too big, I just felt a sharp pain and then I couldn’t move my legs.”

If he hadn't desperately held onto the boat's rope, if it weren't for...

"Little sister, I killed Father. If it weren't for pushing me up, Father wouldn't have been swept away by the waves."

Fu Ming angrily pounded the bed, while Fu Wan wiped away her tears.

“You said it yourself, that’s our father. Saving you was his choice, but if you still look like you’re half-dead, even if your father is in heaven, he’ll want to beat you up.”

Ye Xiaocui nodded repeatedly, "Ming, I only want to live on if you are well. If you don't want to live anymore, I, an old woman, will have to bury my black-haired child, and I won't want to live anymore either!"

Fu Wan stuffed the money into Ye Xiaocui's hand and urged her to hurry up and find the village chief to take Fu Ming to the town hospital.

"Lingling, you stay home and chat with your uncle for a while. I'll go to the beach and see if I can pick up a few crabs for your dinner."

It was already evening, but it wasn't dark yet. After finishing her tasks, Fu Wan went to the kitchen, grabbed a bucket, and headed to the beach.

Along the way, she encountered villagers returning from the fields, and many recognized her as Fu Wan, who had not been home for a long time.

"Wan'er, please accept my condolences. Where are you going?" asked Fu Wan's uncle, who was from the same clan. "Uncle, I'm going to the beach to try my luck and see if I can bring back some crabs or something to add to the dishes."

"Sigh, your family has had a tough time. You finally paid off your debts, and now this has happened."

Fu Wan's family had borrowed some money from relatives in the village to build a house, and they finally paid it off this year and were preparing to find a wife for Fu Ming, but now this has happened.

Fu Wan smiled, but kept walking. "Uncle, I'll go ahead first, it's getting dark..."

Having finally left the main road, Fu Wan found a secluded spot and began searching for crabs with fire tongs.

She turned over several rocks but didn't see any crabs; instead, she found a few abalone.

It's better than nothing; at least it's not the Air Force.

Having picked up two more small octopuses, Fu Wan was about to head back with her bucket when she was drawn to the commotion in a nearby ditch.

That's clearly the sound of a fish tail thumping!
