Chapter 272 The Tumultuous Scene at the Medical Clinic (Part 2)

Chen Xiaoxi took a deep breath and slowly turned her head. Looking up, she saw Lu Qingzhou and the women beside him—a happy family.

I couldn't hold it in any longer.

"I suddenly remembered I had something to do."

Chen Xiaoxi's voice was so hoarse it didn't sound like her own, and she suddenly stood up before she finished speaking.

The chair legs scraped against the floor with a screeching sound.

She practically stumbled out the door, the hem of her white coat sweeping across the doorframe, leaving a pale afterimage.

Old Chen stared in the direction where his daughter had disappeared, his fingers trembling slightly as he adjusted his glasses, a wave of helplessness washing over him.

When Zhang Ruoshui casually mentioned 'two daughters-in-law' in the morning, he was able to barely maintain a smile.

Leng Yue's arrival completely threw him into disarray, and his lips twitched uncontrollably a few times.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but swallowed the words back down, and could only give a dry laugh: "This child, it's all my fault for spoiling her."

A complex emotion flashed in his eyes as his gaze swept over Lu Qingzhou.

As Lu Qingzhou watched Chen Xiaoxi turn around, the curve of her hair fluttering in the wind made him feel as if he were back on the high school playground.

Back then, she would always skip and hop ahead, her ponytail brushing against the back of his hand, carrying the scent of fresh grass.

Her eyes used to shine, but now they are like the moon obscured by dark clouds.

Lu Qingzhou's heart tightened, and she subconsciously called out, "Xiaoxi..."

He had barely opened his mouth when he was interrupted by Old Man Chen's cough.

"It's alright, that's just how this girl is,"

"Ruoshui, let me take you to the medicine preparation room and introduce you to some of our newly arrived medicinal herbs. Let's give these young people some space."

Old Chen winked at Zhang Ruoshui.

Zhang Ruoshui stood up, coughed lightly, and glanced at Lu Qingzhou and the others. "Alright, while you're at it, could you also brew the medicine for my frozen shoulder? I'll take it back with me later."

Old Chen smiled slightly, "No problem, I'll take care of it. The taste of that medicine will definitely satisfy you."

The two chatted as they walked outside.

As Mu Shaohua watched the two figures depart, she suddenly leaned close to Lu Qingzhou's ear, her warm breath carrying a faint scent of perfume:

"Why do I feel like Uncle Chen's gaze towards Mom is really strange? It's even more affectionate than when he looks at Dr. Xiaoxi."

Su Qingyao covered her mouth and chuckled softly.

The teacup in Leng Yue's hand made a crisp sound as it tapped on the saucer.

Everyone can see Chen Xiaoxi's feelings for Lu Qingzhou.

Lu Qingzhou froze abruptly, his awkward explanation stuck in his throat.

Lu Qingzhou looked embarrassed. "Xiaoxi is my classmate, it's normal for me to care about her."

"Wait, something's not right,"

Lu Qingzhou instantly realized the meaning of Su Qingyao's first half of her sentence. He frowned slightly and asked, "What did you mean by what you just said? What do you mean by Uncle Chen looking at my mother strangely?"

"Yes, what do you mean by that?"

Leng Yue originally thought that Mu Shaohua was just teasing Lu Qingzhou, but she didn't expect there to be this hidden meaning, so she immediately perked up.

He picked up the teacup on the table, took a sip, and then stared intently at them.

Su Qingyao and Mu Shaohua exchanged a glance, and Su Qingyao then vividly described the scene of bumping into Old Man Chen and Zhang Ruoshui's appointment that morning.

After hearing this, Lu Qingzhou felt a throbbing pain in his temples.

He had considered finding a companion for his mother, but what surprised him was that his mother and Chen Xiaoxi's father were actually classmates. He thought about Old Man Chen's previous actions.

Lu Qingzhou instantly realized that this was a serious matter!

He stroked his chin, deep in thought.

Then, looking at the group, he analyzed, "Could this be just wishful thinking on your part, and my mom and Uncle Chen might just be old classmates with a friendship?"

Seeing Lu Qingzhou's restless state, Mu Shaohua reached out and poked his forehead, the touch neither too light nor too heavy: "I'm sure this matter can't be ignored. They can be put aside for now; you should think about how to comfort your old classmate!"

Her voice trailed off with a hint of teasing.

Lu Qingzhou suddenly looked up and met Mu Shaohua's ambiguous smile.

Those eyes were so clear, as if they could see right through his inner hesitation.

His Adam's apple bobbed, and he suddenly had a strange feeling—his usually gentle and tender wife was now like a strategist, quietly pushing things forward.

Could it be that she... really wants to bring me and Chen Xiaoxi together?

The thought made Lu Qingzhou's heart clench. He subconsciously bit his index finger knuckle and tentatively began to speak: "Me and her..."

Before he could finish speaking,

It was interrupted by Mu Shaohua's clear laughter.

“Even a fool could see that she likes you a lot! I saw the photo Mom mentioned too; you two looked so happy together. The fact that you haven't thrown it away all these years means there's a reason you've kept it,”

As Mu Shaohua spoke, she felt a pang of envy.

She reached out and gently stroked Lu Qingzhou's cheek, her gaze filled with an all-knowing understanding.

Lu Qingzhou tried to open his mouth, wanting to say something, but found that his throat felt like it was blocked by a wad of cotton soaked in Chinese medicine, and he couldn't say anything.

The cicadas outside the window suddenly became sharp and piercing. The steam rising from the purple clay teapot distorted before my eyes, and in a daze, it transformed into a scene of Zhang Ruoshui and Old Man Chen smiling at each other. Chen Xiaoxi's red eyes when she left were more eye-catching than any other scene, as if they were right in front of me.

Leng Yue, who had been fiddling with the tassels on her cuffs, suddenly looked up at the words, her pupils flashing with a sharp light. 'If I can persuade Miss Chen, wouldn't I have gained another ally?'

Thinking of this,

She practically jumped to her feet: "I'll go with him to see Miss Chen!"
