Chapter 280 The Battle Between Father and Daughter

Lu Qingzhou's brows furrowed instantly into a tight "川" shape. Not long ago, he had just taken Chen Xiaoxi home, and the group had been chatting and laughing on the way.

How could he keep such an important matter a complete secret? His fingertips unconsciously traced the steering wheel. "When I took her home earlier, she didn't mention it at all."

Leng Yue's eyelashes trembled slightly as she lowered her eyes to stare at her interlaced fingers.

"Yeah, I didn't hear her mention anything about it when we were eating together?"

'This Chen Xiaoxi is much better at hiding her feelings than she appears; she hasn't given a single word about this blind date. It seems that winning her over won't be as easy as I thought.'

Zhang Ruoshui looked at her son's tense profile and a knowing smile flashed across her eyes.

As someone who's been through it all, she understands all too well the feeling of being anxious and uncertain.

"So, if you want to pursue Xiaoxi, you'll have to work harder, son. Don't think too far ahead for now."

She spoke casually on purpose, but was actually secretly observing Lu Qingzhou's reaction.

Lu Qingzhou's Adam's apple bobbed, her chest feeling heavy and suffocating, as if a wad of cotton was stuck inside. "When is she going on her blind date, who is she going to meet, and where is it?"

When he asked the question, even he felt his voice was a little hoarse.

An image of Chen Xiaoxi sitting opposite a strange man uncontrollably flashed through her mind, and her heart suddenly ached.

Zhang Ruoshui shrugged and spread her hands helplessly: "I don't know about that. I haven't received any information yet. You'll have to find out for yourself."

Lu Qingzhou reached out and wiped her face hard, her heart filled with conflict.

Should we ask Chen Xiaoxi directly? But she didn't mention it at all in the car tonight. Knowing her personality, she'll probably just laugh it off.

After thinking it over, he realized he still had to go to Old Man Chen for this matter, but that would require his mother's help... Thinking of this, he cleared his throat and put on a flattering smile: "Mom, I think we still need you to help us get information."

"Do you think I'm an intelligence agency? You think I'll just ask you to find out things for you? Wouldn't that make me lose face?"

Zhang Ruoshui glared at him reproachfully, but she couldn't hide the smile on her lips. She knew her son's thoughts all too well; though she complained, she was already plotting how to subtly hint at it.

Lu Qingzhou scratched his head anxiously and blurted out, "If you don't help me with this, I won't agree to your relationship with Old Man Chen."

He regretted it as soon as the words left his mouth, feeling annoyed. How could he threaten his mother with something like that?

But the thought of Chen Xiaoxi going on a blind date completely burned away his rationality with jealousy.

Zhang Ruoshui's eyes widened immediately, and she laughed and scolded, "You brat, you've grown wings and now you dare to threaten your old mother. You've got some nerve."

Lu Qingzhou chuckled awkwardly, "Haha, I was just joking with you, don't take it seriously!"

Leng Yue couldn't help but chuckle as she watched the mother and son's back-and-forth banter.

She rested her chin on her hand, her gaze sweeping over the two of them, thinking to herself how interesting it was to see this family getting along.

Zhang Ruoshui smiled and shook her head, saying earnestly, "Don't worry, I'll let you know as soon as I get the news. Just be quick-witted these next few days. Xiaoxi likes the osmanthus cake from the south of the city, so buy some to coax her whenever you have time."

Looking at her son's focused profile, she vaguely saw the little boy who used to depend on her when he was a child, and felt both gratified and emotional.

Lu Qingzhou nodded seriously, but then suddenly remembered Uncle Chen's past attitude and couldn't help but frown: "Um, Uncle Chen won't object to me pursuing Xiaoxi, will he? He used to get all grumpy if I said just a few words to Xiaoxi."

Thinking of Old Chen's cold gaze from before, he felt a chill run down his spine.

Zhang Ruoshui snorted lightly, her eyes saying, "Don't worry, he wouldn't dare to cause trouble."

After saying that, she looked at Lu Qingzhou's back and hesitated for a long time before speaking: "Son, if Mom really gets together with Lao Chen, will you feel resentful?"

This question had been weighing on her mind for a long time; she both longed for and feared to hear the answer.

Lu Qingzhou looked at her mother in the rearview mirror, her eyes full of heartache: "How could I mind? You've worked so hard for this family all these years. You have every right to pursue your own happiness. As long as you like it, I will absolutely support you."

Along the way, Lu Qingzhou knew how hard it was for his mother to support the family on her own. Now that she had met someone she liked, he was genuinely happy for her.

Zhang Ruoshui's eyes lit up instantly: "Really?" After receiving an affirmative answer, her heart finally settled down.

Lu Qingzhou smiled helplessly: "Do you think you'll listen to me just because I disagree? I'm just a little conflicted about something."

He thought about the possible scenarios in the future and couldn't help but feel both sweet and troubled.

"What is it?" Zhang Ruoshui asked curiously.

"Let's go back to the previous topic. You and Uncle Chen got together, but I got together with Xiaoxi. What should we call you when we have children? Grandpa? Grandma? Grandpa? Grandma?"

As Lu Qingzhou spoke, he couldn't help but laugh at himself.

This seemingly absurd question is still worth pondering.

Zhang Ruoshui's eyes still held smile lines, her gaze full of indulgence: "You can call me whatever you want, why care about that?"

She spoke casually, but a warmth welled up inside her—it turned out that without realizing it, everyone had already begun to envision such a long-term future.

Leng Yue's eyes sparkled, like two pools of spring water, and she interjected with great interest: "I think calling them grandpa and grandma is just fine."

Lu Qingzhou's brows remained furrowed, his fingertips unconsciously tapping the steering wheel.
