Chapter 655: False Joy

Xiao Yu, who had been lying in the ICU for three days, was finally transferred to the general ward. His vital signs were stable, but he was still not waking up.

Jiang Ranran stayed by Xiaoyu's bedside day and night, and was becoming increasingly haggard.

No matter how Gu Tingchen persuaded her to find a nurse to take care of Xiao Yu, Jiang Ranran disagreed. She had a belief in her heart that Xiao Yu would definitely wake up!

That day, Jiang Ranran came to the hospital early in the morning again. As soon as she entered the door, she saw Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue serving Xiaoyu.

Zhao Xiaocui was wiping Xiaoyu's body, and Zhang Ruixue was cleaning the house.

Jiang Ranran was stunned and felt indescribably touched in her heart. She knew that Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue felt sorry for her.

"Why are you here? Isn't the orphanage busy?" Jiang Ranran asked in surprise and joy.

Zhao Xiaocui changed Xiaoyu into clean clothes. Her smile was gentle but also tinged with sadness. "The children are playing by themselves. There are people watching them. We will be back soon."

"Sister Ranran, long time no see. You've lost weight." Zhang Ruixue looked at Jiang Ranran with tears in her eyes.

Seeing her cry, Jiang Ranran's eyes also became moist, but she didn't want to make the atmosphere too sad, so she forced herself to hold it back: "It would be better if you were thinner. I just feel that I am a little fat."

Jiang Ranran was forcing a smile, and both Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue could see it, but no one exposed her.

She sat down in front of Xiaoyu's bed. The child's eyes were still closed, with no sign of waking up.

Jiang Ranran gently picked up Xiaoyu's hand and held it tightly. The child's hand was cold, which made people feel distressed.

Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue exchanged glances when they saw Jiang Ranran sinking into grief. Finally, Zhang Ruixue spoke cautiously, "Sister Ranran, Sister Xiaocui and I came here today to persuade you. Otherwise, why not send Xiaoyu back to the orphanage? Sister Xiaocui and I will take care of her. There are plenty of people there..."

Zhang Ruixue didn't beat around the bush and told Jiang Ranran the purpose of her trip directly.

"No, no, I have to take care of Xiaoyu myself." Jiang Ranran refused without thinking.

"If you keep going like this, you'll collapse!" Zhao Xiaocui couldn't help but raise her voice when she heard Jiang Ranran being so stubborn.

Jiang Ranran's face showed a stubborn look. She said with a stern face, "Don't try to persuade me. If I say no, then it's no. If Xiaoyu wakes up and I can't see her, it will be even more uncomfortable."

"Sister Ranran..." Zhang Ruixue wanted to continue persuading her, but she knew Jiang Ranran's temper too well, so she kept her mouth shut.

Zhao Xiaocui wanted to continue speaking, but Zhang Ruixue grabbed her arm and stopped her.

"Sister Ranran, if you feel tired and need someone to share the burden, just let me know. Sister Xiaocui and I will be there whenever you call." Zhang Ruixue changed her words, but her eyes were full of sincerity, which also infected Zhao Xiaocui, who nodded in agreement.

Hearing that they had given up trying to persuade him, Jiang Ranran's expression and tone softened. "Thank you, I know you all care about me. Thank you so much..."

Jiang Ranran turned her head and looked at Xiaoyu sadly. She had already made up her mind that if Xiaoyu never woke up, she would take care of Xiaoyu for the rest of her life.

Just as he was thinking about it, at this moment, Jiang Ranran seemed to see Xiao Yu's fingers move!

Jiang Ranran's eyes suddenly widened, as if he suddenly woke up.

Was it just her illusion? Jiang Ranran couldn't contain her excitement and stood up, staring at Xiao Yu for a moment, afraid to miss every subtle movement of hers!

Seeing Jiang Ranran stand up, Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue also quieted down. The three of them held their breath and the atmosphere became particularly tense.

At this moment, Xiaoyu's fingers moved again!

This time, Jiang Ranran was certain she wasn't mistaken! Her little Yu was reacting!

Jiang Ranran wanted to shout, but no matter how hard she tried, her throat seemed to be strangled and no sound came out. So she quickly turned around and ran towards the doctor's office in the corridor outside. After a while, Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue heard Jiang Ranran's shout.

"Doctor, the child is awake! Xiaoyu is awake!" Jiang Ranran was very excited and quickly pulled the doctor in.

In the ward, the atmosphere changed from excitement at the beginning to high tension again. Jiang Ranran stared at the doctor's face, trying to see his expression clearly to see if Xiaoyu was really about to wake up.

But the doctor examined Xiao Yu for a long time, but in the end, Jiang Ranran was disappointed. He shook his head helplessly at Jiang Ranran, "The child is not awake. Was it your illusion just now?"

"That's definitely not the case. I really saw her fingers moving!" Jiang Ranran was so excited that tears were about to burst out.

Zhao Xiaocui and Zhang Ruixue also nodded, "Doctor, the baby really moved just now."

"Maybe she's just dreaming, or it's a nerve twitch. You'd better take good care of her." The doctor said lightly, but every word was like a heavy hammer hitting Jiang Ranran's heart.

So, was her excitement just now in vain? Xiao Yu hadn't even woken up!

A clear tear instantly slipped down the corner of Jiang Ranran's eye. She wiped it away stubbornly and sat back in front of Xiaoyu's bed.

"It doesn't matter. Even if he doesn't wake up now, he will wake up in a few days." She was stubborn as if she was angry with herself. Her almond-shaped eyes were fixed on Xiaoyu's face. There were already red bloodshot streaks in her eyeballs, which showed how tired she had been these days.

Zhao Xiaocui didn't know how to persuade her, so she just gently put her hand on her shoulder to comfort her.

"Sister Ranran, are you okay? Do you want to go back and rest? We can take care of you here." Zhang Ruixue looked at her with heartache. Jiang Ranran was just that kind of person. When she treated someone as her own, she would spare no effort to treat him well.

Jiang Ranran's eyes were slightly dull, and she shook her head woodenly, "You guys go back, I want to be alone for some time."

"No, I'm not at ease with you staying here alone. I'll stay with you." Zhao Xiaocui said in a hurry and in a very firm tone. She moved a stool and sat behind Jiang Ranran.

Zhang Ruixue grabbed Zhao Xiaocui's hand and said, "Sister Xiaocui, let's go. Sitting here will only make Sister Ranran more uncomfortable." Zhang Ruixue persuaded. Zhao Xiaocui always listened to her, and this time was no exception.

Zhao Xiaocui was half-heartedly pulled away by Zhang Ruixue. They simply said goodbye to Jiang Ranran and closed the door.

The moment the door was closed, the footsteps outside gradually faded away. After Jiang Ranran was sure that they had left, tears rolled down her face uncontrollably. Jiang Ranran could no longer hold back and threw herself on Xiao Yu, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably.
