It was a bumpy ride.
At 11:00 am, the bus arrived at the terminal. Before getting off the bus, Jiang Yan asked the conductor, "Comrade, what time do we have to go back this afternoon?"
"Leave on time at 3:30. If you want to buy something, you'd better hurry up, otherwise you'll have to wait until the next day."
"OK, thanks."
After saying thank you, Jiang Yan asked about the location of Xinhua Bookstore.
Seeing that she was polite and courteous, the ticket seller patiently showed her the way and told her that if she really didn't have time, she could call a taxi, which would only cost ten cents to go to the Xinhua Bookstore.
After thanking her again, Jiang Yan carried a small backpack and walked towards the supply and marketing cooperative not far away. This was the largest supply and marketing cooperative in the city and was only a few steps away from the station.
Today was not the weekend and it was close to noon, so there were not many people in the supply and marketing cooperative, so Jiang Yan walked straight in.
I bought two pounds of meat, half fat and half lean, five pounds of pork fat, selected some green leafy vegetables that looked relatively fresh, and bought two pounds of potatoes and one pound of white flour. I also added some seasonings.
She also asked if there were any flea collars for dogs and cats, but sadly, there were none.
It was already half past eleven, almost twelve o'clock, when Jiang Yan came out of the supply and marketing cooperative. She ate a bowl of臊子面 at the state-owned restaurant next to the supply and marketing cooperative, and then hailed a rickshaw on the side of the road.
It is the kind of vehicle pulled by people. In some places it is called a rickshaw, and in other places it is called a human-powered tricycle.
After getting on the car, taking off the backpack and uncovering the black cloth covering it, Jiang Yan reached in and put everything in the backpack into the space.
These things in the backpack are worth a lot of money, so it’s safer to put them in a space to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Looking ahead, Jiang Yan said to the cart driver with his back to her: "Master, let's go to Xinhua Bookstore."
"OK."
After receiving the order, the master pulled the cart and started running at a very fast speed. His muscular body looked very explosive.
However, Jiang Yan still felt that Lu Yunsheng's was more symmetrical and good-looking.
Half an hour later, the driver drove the car and stopped in front of the only Xinhua Bookstore in the city.
After giving a dime, the driver drove away. Jiang Yan glanced at the bookstore.
There are quite a lot of people.
Many people buy newspapers here, as well as various textbooks, quotations, and children's books.
There are also quite a few picture books.
Walking to the entrance of Xinhua Bookstore, Jiang Yan signed in silently in her heart.
[Sign in successfully, get a dark sutra pill, it has been sent to the system warehouse, please check it. ]
Seeing that the mission was accomplished, Jiang Yan hurried to an alley where there were not many people, reached into her pocket, took out the pill and swallowed it directly.
Like the physical condition pills, the dark meridian pills are also sweet, the size of soybeans, and are easy to swallow.
After taking the pill, Jiang Yan carefully felt the changes in her body.
But I didn't feel anything. The pills given by the system didn't seem to take effect immediately, but changed slowly.
There was no obvious reaction from her body, so Jiang Yan didn't worry about it. She went to a nearby state-owned restaurant for lunch, and then returned to the entrance of Xinhua Bookstore.
Since the system asked her to come here, she naturally wanted to take a look.
As soon as she entered the bookstore, Jiang Yan felt like she was entering an old-fashioned bookstore. There were a few people reading quietly in the corner.
Two staff members were chatting behind the red-painted glass counter, occasionally checking out customers who were buying books.
There was a signboard next to the counter. Jiang Yan walked over and read the content on it.
The bookstore is actually recruiting translators!
Jiang Yan was delighted.
Is this the purpose of the system? I didn't expect that there is still translation work to make money these days. It's really surprising.
But when she thought about it carefully, she understood why.
In this era, the country lags far behind Western countries in science and technology. If it wants to catch up, it must learn the other side's advanced knowledge and concepts and translate a large number of foreign books and documents.
However, the movement over the past few years has led to a serious talent gap in various industries in China, and talent in the translation industry is particularly scarce.
It is impossible for the people in the central government to meet such a huge translation demand.
Therefore, they could only send some unimportant documents to Xinhua Bookstores in various provinces and cities frequented by cultural figures, and look for private translation talents to reduce the pressure on the central government.
This seems to be a long-term, high-paying job.
She looked at the staff member nearby and asked, "Hello, the notice said you are recruiting translators?"
Hearing this, the staff member stopped chatting and looked over, "Yes, are you applying for the position of translator?"
Jiang Yan nodded, "I can translate into English."
The girl who asked the question sounded very confident, and her clothes were neat and tidy, and she didn't look cheap.
Thinking the conditions should be good, the staff member quickly replied: "Wait a moment, I'll go call the manager."
Jiang Yan stood at the counter waiting, and a staff member hurried into the office behind the bookstore.
After a while, a middle-aged man in a Zhongshan suit walked over quickly following the previous staff member.
He walked up to Jiang Yan and looked her up and down. Seeing that she was a young girl, the happy expression on his face disappeared a lot.
But I still asked, "Do you want to take on translation work?"
"Yes."
Jiang Yan nodded, "I'm good at English and want to help with the family expenses."
The middle-aged man handed Jiang Yan a document written entirely in English and said in a serious tone:
"Our requirements are very strict. You can't just know a little English to take this job. If you really want to try, here is an article. Try to translate it. As long as the accuracy rate is 90%, you will pass."
Jiang Yan glanced at it. It was a life news article from the New York Times and it was not an important article.
After taking the document, Jiang Yan looked at the middle-aged man and asked, "Can you help me find a table and borrow some paper and pen?"
