Are there spies?
Still hiding in the hospital morgue.
The more Qiao Changhai listened, the more nervous he became. If the person speaking was someone else, he would definitely sneer and not take it to heart.
But the person who spoke was his precious daughter, so Qiao Changhai had to believe it. But Qiao Changhai couldn't make up his mind what to do about it.
"Ding-dang-dang, ding-dang-dang."
Just when Qiao Changhai was hesitating, someone suddenly knocked on the big iron gate outside.
Qiao Baozhu jumped up from the kang like a cannonball. She picked up the wooden stick on the windowsill that was used to draw the curtains and stared outside nervously.
Qiao Changhai understood his daughter's thoughts immediately and lowered his voice, "Did anyone notice you eavesdropping just now?"
"No, I didn't even make any walking sounds."
When Qiao Baozhu thought that she might get into trouble for her adoptive parents, she made up her mind and rushed out with a stick in hand.
"Girl, come back!"
When Qiao Changhai saw his daughter rushing out without looking back, he followed her in a rush.
"Ding-dang-dang, ding-dang-dang."
The knocking on the door outside was getting louder and louder.
The father and daughter in the yard, one holding a stick and the other holding a shovel, both looked grim and stared at the dark gate menacingly.
"Master, Master's Wife, I am Xingzi. Open the door!"
Hearing the voice of his apprentice Huang Xing, Qiao Changhai breathed a sigh of relief and turned around to signal Qiao Baozhu to put down the wooden stick in his hand.
He stood in the yard and coughed twice deliberately. He stomped heavily on the ground and shouted hoarsely at the gate, "Xingzi, what time is it? What's the matter? Cough, cough, cough, cough."
Huang Xing heard his master coughing in the yard and anxiously shouted towards the yard: "Master, why are you coughing? Do you have a cold?"
"Master, is your cold serious? How about I take you to the hospital?"
Qiao Changhai walked slowly to the gate and opened the small window on the big iron gate.
"Why go to the hospital? Just take some medicine. It's dark now. What are you doing here?"
Huang Xing looked at his master through the crack in the door with a depressed look on his face. He didn't understand what he had done to make his master unhappy and why he wasn't even allowed to enter the door.
"Master, I finally got promoted. I came here specially to tell Master and Master's wife, and to make them happy."
Huang Xing could not hide the disappointment in his eyes. He thought his master and his mistress would be happy.
"Huang Xing has been promoted to a full-time employee. This is a great event. Dad, quickly let my brother in so we can help him celebrate."
A female voice as clear as an oriole came from inside the iron gate. As soon as the voice fell, the iron lock was opened.
Qiao Changhai's slightly old face appeared in front of Huang Xing. He looked at Huang Xing and said in an unusually calm tone, "Come in."
The atmosphere was so weird that Huang Xing scratched his head and walked into the yard with a look of surprise.
As soon as he entered the yard, Huang Xing heard the sound of the big iron gate behind him being locked.
This residential area is a family compound built by the hospital. The walls on both sides are two meters high, and the entrance door is integrated with the back building. The small courtyard is very private and the wind is much smaller than outside.
Even so, Huang Xing felt that the situation was even more unusual when he saw Qiao Baozhu standing in the yard wearing only a sweater and cotton shoes.
"Sister Baozhu, why are you wearing so little?"
As soon as Huang Xing finished speaking, he felt his lower back tighten. Qiao Changhai's stern voice rang in his ears: "Hurry and get in."
After entering the house, Huang Xing learned his lesson and stood against the wall, not daring to say another word.
The Master and his sister were acting strangely, so something must have happened at home. Huang Xing's small eyes nervously looked back and forth between Qiao Changhai and Qiao Baozhu.
"Dad, Xingzi is one of us. It's okay to tell him about what's going on over there."
Qiao Baozhu originally just suspected that the people over there were spies, but just now when she was in the yard, she suddenly remembered something.
At the end of 1975, a big news happened in our city. An explosion occurred in a famous bearing factory in our city, causing dozens of casualties.
At that time, Qiao Baozhu, like other people, thought it was caused by improper operation of the workshop staff. A few years later, she made friends with several poker players who worked in the municipal government.
I heard someone say at the poker table that the real culprit of the explosion in 1975 had been caught. It was done by several local spies who were hiding in the area and their goal was to kill a senior engineer of a military industrial unit.
Qiao Baozhu calculated the time and found that the explosion in her previous life happened almost within these few days.
Huang Xing heard Qiao Baozhu's tone and immediately expressed his loyalty to Qiao Changhai: "Master, I have been without parents since I was a child. If it weren't for you and Master's wife, I would still be picking up food from the garbage dump."
"Don't worry, no matter what happens at home, as long as you need me, just order me around. I, Huang Xing, will do anything for you!"
Qiao Changhai patted Huang Xing on the shoulder and whispered a few words without further explanation: "We found a spy."
Huang Xing's face turned pale and he looked at Qiao Changhai in shock.
"Master, are you sure?"
Qiao Changhai shook his head: "Your sister heard the sound of them sending a telegram, but we can't be sure if it was those people. Who is a good person who can send a telegram in the morgue? Even if they are not spies, those people are not good people."
"I plan to keep an eye on them tonight and report the crime tomorrow morning."
