In the evening, when Qiao Changhai and Bao Huihua came home from get off work, they found four more sewing machines in their home. Only then did they know that Qiao Baozhu was planning to open a garment workshop.
"It's good that you have this idea, but I always feel that the timing is not right."
Qiao Changhai did not stop his daughter from doing business. He asked his wife to heat a pot of hot wine, and the father and daughter drank and chatted.
Bao Huihua concealed her worry, opened her lunch box with a smile, and showed the dishes inside to her daughter.
Qiao Baozhu had worked in a cafeteria and knew the established rules there. All employees will take home any unfinished food from the cafeteria, which is a benefit for cafeteria workers.
After working as a warehouse manager in the farm canteen, Qiao Baozhu never brought food home.
Firstly, Qiao Baozhu only worked half a day in the cafeteria every day, and shared her share of leftovers with other colleagues. Everyone benefited and no one gossiped.
Secondly, Qiao Baozhu felt that the food in the cafeteria was not as good as that at home. After all, she and Shen Xiao easily earned over a hundred yuan a month. The couple only ate white flour buns and looked down on the three-grain and four-grain flour buns in the canteen.
But Bao Huihua is different. She was bullied for most of her life, but when she got old, she became a formal employee of the bearing factory.
Moreover, the bearing factory is a large state-owned factory, and the food in the cafeteria is quite good, better than what Qiao Baozhu's family of three used to eat during the holidays.
When Bao Huihua first started working, she didn't dare to take work stuff home. It was the chef, Master Yu, who stuffed it into her hand and told her that this was the rule of the cafeteria. If Bao Huihua doesn't take any of the money, she will be considered pretentious and will be ostracized by other colleagues.
Bao Huihua then accepted it with trepidation. After observing for several days, she found that everyone did the same, so she felt relieved.
Qiao Baozhu saw Bao Huihua taking things home without any pressure. She had an expression on her face as if she was presenting a treasure, and Qiao Baozhu was secretly happy.
She was not happy that Bao Huihua was in cahoots with the corrupt and taking advantage of the public, but she saw that her adoptive mother was having an easy time in the new unit. The people in the cafeteria didn't give Bao Huihua a cold look, nor did they laugh at her for being mute.
She integrated into the new environment and lived like a duck in water, which made Qiao Baozhu feel relieved.
"My mom's workplace must have better food than our farm. Let me see what delicious food you guys had for lunch."
Qiao Baozhu opened the lunch box with curiosity, and when she saw the red meat in the thick oil and sauce, she couldn't help but exclaimed: "Oh, it's braised pork."
A whole lunch box of braised pork, with alternating fat and lean meat, is so appetizing even when it’s cold.
“How come there are so many left?”
Qiao Baozhu found it unbelievable. The canteen of the bearing factory was so rich that each employee could get a lunch box of meat.
"Your mother must have paid for this herself. Normally, no one would watch over the cabbage stew with vermicelli that everyone shares. If they shared the braised pork like this every day, someone would have reported it long ago."
In those days, every household had a fixed amount of meat coupons, so taking advantage of the public was indeed common, but it was not so exaggerated.
Bao Huihua is just a small handyman, and she is at the bottom of the hierarchy among the more than 30 people in the cafeteria. If even Bao Huihua could get a lunch box of braised pork, the chefs would dare to drive the pigs home.
“So it was bought.”
Qiao Baozhu patted her chest and pretended to be scared: "I was scared to death. I just regretted not going to work in the canteen of the bearing factory."
Qiao Changhai and Bao Huihua couldn't help laughing, and Qiao Baozhu opened another lunch box.
"Stewed hairtail fish. This dish is so fishy."
Qiao Baozhu covered her nose with a look of disgust: "It's a pity to cook the hairtail fish, which is as wide as a palm, like this."
Bao Huihua gestured at the two of them for a long time with a wry smile, and Qiao Baozhu then realized that the hairtail was too fishy and was hated by the employees. There was a lot of food left in the cafeteria today, and many employees didn't take it home, so they ended up feeding it to the dogs.
"What? No one eats the palm-wide hairtail fish, so they feed it to the dogs?"
Qiao Baozhu was anxious: "I can cook it. It doesn't smell fishy. Sell the hairtail to me."
