Chapter 63: Pretend

Bai Hongmei had a dark face and complained to Wei Dong beside her.

"Listen to how these people are laughing. If your sister were dead, would they be able to laugh?"

"I told you that brat was fine, but you insisted on coming to the hospital."

Wei Dong felt relieved when he heard the laughter inside.

"Mom, isn't it better that Wei Hong is fine? Let's go inside and take a look. What Hao Chunmei said is very serious."

Bai Hongmei glared at Wei Dong fiercely and scolded him angrily: "She is a country girl who has never seen the world. What does she know? It's just a small matter, but she screamed and yelled."

Bai Hongmei poked Wei Dong's head fiercely and scolded him angrily, "You believe her words? I think you are out of your mind."

The mother and daughter were so busy talking that they didn't notice that the laughter in the room had stopped abruptly when they approached the corridor.

The men in the room were all soldiers who had fought on the battlefield. They were very vigilant and had good hearing. Naturally, Bai Hongmei's words were heard clearly by several people.

Qiao Baozhu and Zhang Cuilian were standing near the door, so although they couldn't hear it clearly, they could still hear the general idea.

Everyone was silent, and their expressions were not very good.

"What's the matter? Why aren't you talking?"

Li Yan looked at everyone in surprise, feeling that the atmosphere was weird.

As soon as she finished speaking, Wei Dong walked in, followed by Bai Hongmei, who had a cloth wrapped around her head, her face was pale, and her body was shaky.

"Mother!"

Wei Hong saw her biological mother at a glance, and excitedly opened her hands and shouted loudly.

Everyone turned around to look at the door, and when they saw Bai Hongmei's outfit, Qiao Baozhu was speechless.

He looked like he was seriously ill and even weaker than her daughter.

"Hey, Hongmei, what's wrong with you?"

Qiao Baozhu was closest to the door and looked at Bai Hongmei in shock.

"Don't mention it. I've been feeling unwell these past two days. I feel dizzy and weak all over."

Bai Hongmei leaned weakly against the door frame, speaking incoherently, and looked so frail that it seemed as if she would faint at any moment. She didn't look at the girl she had injured, but stared straight at Shen Xiao.

Shen Xiao was like an old monk in meditation. He stared at the ground without saying a word since Bai Hongmei came in.

"Hongmei, you are too weak to stand at the door. Weidong, Weifang, the two of you, help your mother in."

Shen Xiao stood there without moving, and Qiao Baozhu didn't dare to help Bai Hongmei. She was afraid that even though she was helping out of kindness, Bai Hongmei would fall down and try to get compensation from him, blaming her for her bad intentions.

So he just gave orders to Bai Hongmei's two children and turned around and stayed away from her.

Bai Hongmei was like the Empress Dowager, and allowed Wei Dong and Wei Fang, brother and sister, to support her to Wei Hong's bedside, one on each side.

When Wei Hong saw her mother, she had completely forgotten about the beating she had suffered.

She opened her little hands and threw herself into Bai Hongmei's arms affectionately, saying softly, "Mom, you finally came to pick me up."

Bai Hongmei's tears flowed down like water. She hugged Wei Hong's little body, patted her back, and cried and complained: "Bad child, bad child, don't scare your mother again in the future."

Wei Hong and her mother hugged each other and cried for a while. Then she raised her head as if she had just seen Li Yan: "Sister-in-law, I'm sorry to bother you again."

Li Yan waved her hand: "Okay, let's not be polite."

"The doctor said that little Weihong has to stay in the hospital for one night for observation. Now that you are here, you can stay with the child overnight."

"It's getting late. Didn't my Ga Yazi cry when you came out?"

Bai Hongmei sniffed blankly and hummed unnaturally. With a look of complaint on her face, she said to Li Yan, "It's common for children to bump into each other while playing. Sister-in-law, you have a really bad temper. You took Wei Hong away before I even said anything. Do you think of Ga Yazi now?"

"When I left, he was crying at home and was looking for you."

With just a few words, Bai Hongmei accused Li Yan of being nosy.

"Bump? What kid would get such a big cut on his head after bumping into something? Would she have fainted if you hadn't hit her with the enamel pot?"

Li Yan was anxious and angry, accusing Bai Hongmei of having no conscience: "Bai Hongmei, I find you really interesting. Do you think I am meddling in your affairs? When you asked your child to come to my house to beg for food, why didn't you say I was meddling in your affairs?"

"Okay, I'm a bitch, and I'm not willing to take care of your family's shitty affairs. From now on, you motherfuckers, do whatever you want, but don't fucking live in my house."

After saying that, Li Yan turned around and rushed out of the ward angrily.

Bai Hongmei covered her face and burst into tears. She looked at Lao Hao in horror, looking aggrieved: "Brother, what happened to my sister-in-law? I didn't blame her for meddling in other people's business. Why is she so angry?"

She cried so hard that her eyes were wet with tears, looking so pitiful: "Sister-in-law, you wrongly blamed me. I didn't beat the child. It was Wei Hong who was naughty and fell off the kang and bumped her head."

"As soon as my sister-in-law came into the room, she saw Wei Hong fall and rushed her to the hospital. I know everything and I am grateful. I was just, I was pregnant and confused and said the wrong thing."

Bai Hongmei was crying so hard that she was gasping for breath and looked like she was about to faint at any moment.

Old Hao couldn't bear it, so he waved his hand and advised, "Hongmei, don't worry about it. Your sister-in-law has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. She won't blame you."

Bai Hongmei gasped and wiped her tears, secretly glancing at Chen Xiao to see his reaction.

Seeing Shen Xiao hanging his head and talking to Qiao Baozhu again, she rolled her eyes and fainted...
